CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Acura TLX
overall

Summary
With 103 currently listed for sale near Philadelphia, PA and an average price of $22,378, 39.8% of 2020 Acura TLXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Acura TLX 4.62 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.83 / 10.
86.4% of 2020 TLX models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Acura TLX stands out as a luxury sedan aimed at drivers who still care about the experience behind the wheel. In all-wheel-drive form, it is described as a car that can make a familiar road feel engaging again, and Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive is singled out as the setup that gives the TLX its most entertaining character. That focus on driving enjoyment is a key part of what makes the TLX distinctive, especially for buyers who want a Japanese luxury brand with a more enthusiast-oriented personality.
At the same time, the 2020 Acura TLX is not presented as a perfect all-around package. Its strengths include multiple powertrain options and excellent value for money, but its drawbacks are equally clear: poor ergonomic design and outdated technology. Owner feedback echoes that split, with praise for the smooth ride, handling, and overall features, alongside criticism of the interior layout and some controls. For shoppers, that makes the TLX appealing if driving feel and value matter more than the most modern cabin or the most intuitive interface.

All the features you would expect to have in a new car today. Luxury car brand come standard with features like all leather interior with more comfortable seats at the base trim level. V6 engine in this sedan gives the car a good power to weight ratio and easily runs through all gears in the 9 speed transmission. Always feel like there is more power available, in each gear when driving in the highway.

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.
With 678 listings available, you have a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2020 Acura TLX a good car?
Yes — the 4.62/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 6.83/10. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Owners repeatedly praise the smooth ride, handling, and overall features, and the TLX also earns credit for its appealing exterior design. The trade-offs are familiar: some drivers feel the performance does not fully match the price, and the interior layout and controls draw criticism.
That fits the TLX’s role as a luxury sedan for you if driving feel and value matter more than the most modern cabin or the most intuitive interface. Even with those compromises, 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still attractive buys in the market.
Is the 2020 Acura TLX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a dependable ownership experience, with repeated praise for the smooth ride and overall features that owners can count on. The expert review also describes the TLX as comfortable and quiet in daily driving, with a solid, composed feel on the road.
Acura’s cost-effectiveness commentary also notes that the TLX can be a truly cost-effective way to own a luxury sedan, which helps support the case for long-term ownership. For used buyers, the main risk is less about outright durability and more about living with aging controls and technology over time.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Acura TLX?
At 68% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a lower-priced example. Pay close attention to interior condition, control usability, and how well the electronics and driver-assistance features operate in real-world use.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The A-Spec option package adds 19-inch wheels, revised bumper designs, side sill skirts, and oversize round exhaust outlets, while the Technology Package is recommended for comfort, convenience, safety, and infotainment enhancements. The PMC Edition sits at the top of the lineup with unique body-color and gloss black exterior accents.
- Powertrain: The standard setup is a 206-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic driving the front wheels, while the higher-output setup uses a 290-hp, 3.5-liter V6 engine with a 9-speed automatic and torque-vectoring SH-AWD. The V6 is smoother and more engaging, while the SH-AWD setup is the most entertaining.
- Safety package: Every TLX has adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is included on all but the base TLX with no option packages.
- Infotainment: The TLX uses dual screens, with a non-touch top display and a touchscreen lower display. It has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but the layout is dated and can be frustrating to use.
- Fuel efficiency: The TLX returned 23 mpg in testing, which matched the EPA’s combined estimate.
Which 2020 Acura TLX trim should I buy?
The 2020 Acura TLX is offered in 3 trim levels: TLX, A-Spec, PMC Edition.
Here's the short version:
- TLX: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model. You still get the core TLX experience, but you miss the richer equipment and visual upgrades that make the higher trims easier to recommend.
- A-Spec: This is the best-value trim if you want the TLX’s personality to come through more clearly. It adds the sportier styling touches that suit the car’s driving character, and the review specifically recommends pairing it with the Technology Package for a more complete setup.
- PMC Edition: This is the top-spec choice if you want the most exclusive TLX and the strongest powertrain. It includes everything available on the TLX, along with the V6 and SH-AWD setup, but it is the least practical choice for value-focused shoppers.
The safety package is standard across the lineup, but blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is not included on the base TLX with no option packages.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Acura TLX?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 678 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 68.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,121, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Acura TLX's resale value?
The current average of $22,535 sits slightly below last year's $22,736.
That small decline suggests the TLX has been holding value in a fairly stable way rather than dropping sharply. For you as a future seller, that kind of pricing pattern usually means the market is still familiar with the model and willing to pay for the right example.
The strongest resale candidates will likely be well-kept cars with desirable equipment and clean history reports. Because the TLX has a solid owner-satisfaction score, demand should remain reasonably steady over time.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Acura TLX safe?
The 2020 Acura TLX does not qualify for a Top Safety Pick due to an Acceptable rather than Good result in the small overlap frontal-impact test on the driver’s side. It earns five-star ratings in every NHTSA test, including the rollover test.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Every TLX includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on all but the base TLX with no option packages.
The main caveat is that the driver-assistance systems can feel abrupt and less refined than newer rivals, so you should test them carefully on your own drive.
Should I buy a 2020 Acura TLX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 68% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2020 stands out for its strong value, engaging SH-AWD driving character, and low expert cost-effectiveness score.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $26,875, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $22,535 average.
- It brings a new platform, new exterior and interior design, and updated powertrain choices.
The bottom line: If you want the better value and are comfortable with the older cabin and tech, the 2020 is the smarter buy. If you want a newer design and can stretch your budget, the 2021 is the more modern alternative; price-sensitive buyers should stay focused on the 2020.
