CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid
overall

Summary
With 888 currently listed for sale and an average price of $25,393.00, 31.5% of 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrids for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid 4.38 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.5 / 10.
72.9% of 2019 RAV4 Hybrid models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid stands out as a compact SUV that blends efficiency with a more rugged look than before. In CarGurus’ test-drive notes, the newest 2019 RAV4 Hybrid is described as looking tougher and more rugged, and the hybrid version is called the sportiest and most cost-effective way to drive a RAV4. That combination gives it a clear identity: it is aimed at buyers who want the practicality of a small SUV without giving up fuel efficiency or style.
It also earns praise for being an excellent value for money, stylish, and fuel-efficient. Those strengths help explain why it can appeal to shoppers who want a sensible daily driver that still feels appealing rather than purely utilitarian. The main drawback noted is outdated technology, and owner feedback echoes that concern by pointing to tech features that feel a bit behind the times. Even so, the overall impression is of a well-liked hybrid SUV that delivers strong efficiency, good comfort, and a compelling price-to-value balance.

I have only had the 2019 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid for a few days. So far I can say I enjoy driving it. The space inside is good for me and my daughter. The seats are comfortable. The ride is smooth. There is good acceleration when getting on the highway. The brakes work well.

I bought this car and I love it. I was in a small Kia Niro 2020 hybrid before and though my gas mileage was better I did not feel as safe as I do in the Toyota Rav4 hybrid. When I accelerate it actually accelerates and I live in a climate with ice and snow in the winter so the all wheel drive is something I feel better about having.

Is the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid reliable?
Owners rate it 4.38/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. User feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with buyers especially valuing the hybrid’s efficiency and the confidence it inspires over time.
The expert notes reinforce that impression by describing the hybrid battery setup as proven and reliable after decades of Toyota hybrid use. ToyotaCare also includes the first two service visits and roadside assistance, which helps reduce early ownership friction.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the hybrid system itself and more about finding a well-kept example with consistent maintenance and no hidden wear.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid?
At 72.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on condition details that matter most in a hybrid SUV: braking feel, tire wear, cabin electronics, and evidence of consistent maintenance.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The XSE stands out with glossy black exterior trim, 18-inch wheels, sport-tuned dampers and springs, and a more upscale cabin treatment than the lower trims.
- Powertrain: The hybrid system pairs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors for 219 horsepower and strong around-town smoothness; the CVT keeps revs in check, but the standard AWD can be slow to counter wheelspin.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense comes standard with forward emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise, traffic-sign recognition, and auto high beams. Rear emergency braking is optional.
- Infotainment: The system uses a touchscreen with clear menus and swipe/pinch support. Apple CarPlay is standard, Android Auto is not, and the maps look dated.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA rates it at 41 mpg city, 38 mpg highway, and 40 mpg combined; one road test returned 36 mpg over 400 mostly highway miles.
Which 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid trim should I buy?
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, XLE, XSE, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The LE gives you the core hybrid efficiency and standard safety tech, but it misses the more upscale appearance and added convenience features found higher up.
- Sweet-spot trim: The XSE is the best value if you want the most appealing mix of style and driving character, especially when paired with the XSE Cold Weather package.
- Premium/top trim: The Limited is the trim to consider if you want the most upscale equipment and the fullest feature set.
- Off-road trim: None of the trims is positioned as a true off-road choice for everyday buyers.
Toyota Safety Sense comes standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up a trim to get the core driver-assistance suite.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 901 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.04% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 72.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $23,319.81, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid's resale value?
The current average of $25,399 sits slightly below last year's $25,667.
That mild decline suggests the market has softened a bit, which can help you buy more efficiently now. For a future seller, it also means resale should remain reasonably supported as long as the vehicle stays clean, well maintained, and competitively equipped.
Strong owner satisfaction helps too, because shoppers tend to keep coming back to models with a good reputation. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.38/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid safe?
It earns four-star ratings in driver's-side frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests. The IIHS rated the RAV4 Good in all six crash tests and Superior for collision avoidance, though low headlight scores kept it from earning a Top Safety Pick.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense comes standard, including forward emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise, traffic-sign recognition, and auto high beams. A passenger-seat cushion airbag and a driver's knee airbag are also standard, while rear emergency braking is optional.
The main caveat is the headlight performance noted by IIHS, so you should pay close attention to trim and equipment when comparing used examples.
Should I buy a 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 72.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.04% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2019 brings a tougher look and remains the sportiest, most cost-effective way to drive a RAV4.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $27,572, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $25,399 average.
- It adds a roomier passenger compartment and more standard multimedia and safety features.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2019 is the stronger buy because it combines lower pricing with strong efficiency and broad appeal. If you are willing to spend more for a newer-feeling package with extra standard equipment, the 2020 is the better alternative.
