How much does the 2019 Toyota Prius cost?

Prices are up 3.19% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 342 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2019 Toyota Prius a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Toyota Prius earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its impressive fuel economy, quiet interior, and comfort for daily driving. They also commonly highlight its reliability and the savings on gas, while the expert review reinforces that it is practical, affordable, and safe.

The trade-offs are its polarizing styling and outdated technology, and the expert review also notes that the design does the car no favors. For you, that means the Prius makes the most sense if you want a value-focused daily driver rather than a style-first or tech-forward choice.

Good and great deals account for 33.0% of listings, so there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2019 Toyota Prius reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user review summary points to reliability, and owners also describe the car as dependable for daily driving. The expert review adds that it has historically proven reliable and trouble-free, which supports the Prius’ reputation as a car you can count on over time.

The cost-effectiveness review also says Prius ownership makes logical and financial sense, which matters if you plan to keep the car for the long haul. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about the Prius’ core durability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn down by age or mileage.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Toyota Prius?

At 62.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, alignment, and any signs of prior repair. Focus on overall condition, because the market includes a meaningful number of cars with accident history, and you want to separate clean examples from those that may have hidden issues.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes L Eco, LE, XLE, and Limited. The base L Eco is the most stripped-down choice, while the Limited adds the most equipment, including the most advanced infotainment and Safety Connect service.
• Powertrain: A 1.8-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine pairs with an electric motor for 121 horsepower. The optional electric AWD system adds a rear electric motor and lowers gas mileage compared with the standard front-drive setup.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. LE trim adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors with parking assist.
• Infotainment: The standard setup uses a 6.1-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and a CD player. The Limited trim gets an 11.6-inch split-screen display, navigation, the Entune App Suite, a premium JBL sound system, satellite radio, and Safety Connect. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not included.
• Fuel efficiency: A standard front-drive Prius gets 52 mpg in combined driving, or 56 mpg in L Eco trim. The AWD-e version gets 50 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2019 Toyota Prius trim should I buy?

The 2019 Toyota Prius is offered in 4 trim levels: L Eco, LE, XLE, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• L Eco: This is the efficiency-first choice, and it is the least expensive way into the Prius lineup. If your priority is maximizing fuel economy and keeping purchase price down, this is the trim to start with.
• LE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors with parking assist. If you want the smartest balance of price and safety equipment, this is the one to target.
• XLE: This trim adds more comfort and convenience, and it is a good fit if you want a better-equipped Prius without jumping all the way to the top model.
• Limited: This is the most feature-rich version, with the largest infotainment screen, navigation, JBL audio, satellite radio, and Safety Connect. Choose it if you want the most technology and are willing to pay for it.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard on every trim, while LE and above add extra driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Toyota Prius?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 342 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 3.19% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 62.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,990, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Toyota Prius's resale value?

The current average of $19,734 sits slightly above last year's $19,125.

That upward move suggests the Prius is holding demand well, which can help support resale value if you decide to sell later. The combination of strong fuel economy, practical ownership costs, and broad shopper appeal tends to keep interest steady in the used market.

Because the price trend is positive, a clean, well-kept example should remain easier to move than a neglected one. If you buy carefully now, you improve your odds of getting a stronger return later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Toyota Prius safe?

The Prius earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star front passenger protection in a frontal-impact crash. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives it a Top Safety Pick rating, with small overlap front passenger frontal impact protection rated as Acceptable instead of Good.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard on every Prius and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. LE trim adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors with parking assist, while Safety Connect is reserved for the Limited trim.

The main caveat is the IIHS small-overlap result for front passenger protection, which is weaker than the rest of the safety picture. Even so, the standard driver-assistance suite is broad, and the Prius still brings a strong overall safety package for used buyers.

Should I buy a 2019 Toyota Prius or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 3.19% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Toyota revised the trim strategy and added an electric all-wheel-drive option for this year.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $20,661, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $19,734 average.
• It adds a stronger emphasis on hybrid leadership, versatility, and standard advanced safety features.

The bottom line: The 2019 is the better pick if you want a lower average price and a broad selection of used listings. If you can spend more and want the next model year’s added polish, the 2020 is worth a look, but price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2019’s value.

How does the 2019 Toyota Prius compare to the 2019 Honda Insight?

Our experts score the 2019 Toyota Prius 7.3/10 and the 2019 Honda Insight 7.8/10. The Insight edges ahead on overall expert score, while the Prius counters with stronger fuel economy and a larger used-market presence. You may prefer the Prius if you want more listings and a proven hybrid reputation, but the Insight looks like the more compelling pick if you prioritize the higher expert score and lower average used price.
