Used 2019 Toyota 4Runner for Sale nearSaint Louis, MO

How much does the 2019 Toyota 4Runner cost?

Prices have softened 2.02% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,970 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2019 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Toyota 4Runner earns a 4.81/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, off-road capability, and comfort, and they also call out the spacious interior. In use-case terms, that lines up well if you want a rugged SUV that can handle trail duty without giving up everyday usability.

The main trade-offs are outdated technology and poor fuel economy, and the expert review also notes that advanced safety features are not standard. Even so, the market still shows 34.7% good or great deals, which means there are worthwhile listings if you shop carefully.

Is the 2019 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.81/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to reliability, trouble-free ownership, and a vehicle you can count on over time. The expert review also emphasizes that the 4Runner’s proven, older drivetrain components work together in a way that supports durability and dependable use.

That said, used buyers should still budget for age-related ownership costs and verify maintenance history carefully, especially on higher-mileage examples.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Toyota 4Runner?

At 64% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-priced or off-road-used example. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and signs of hard use, since this model is often bought for rugged duty.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SR5 is the most basic version, with 17-inch alloy wheels, skid plates, a power up/down rear window, cloth upholstery, and a manual front passenger seat. The SR5 Premium adds heated side mirrors, heated front seats, SofTex upholstery, a power front passenger seat, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers. TRD Off-Road and TRD Off-Road Premium add trail-focused hardware, while Limited and TRD Pro move toward more upscale or more specialized equipment.
• Powertrain: You get one engine: a 4.0-liter V6 with 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 5-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is available, but 4WD is the more relevant setup for this SUV’s mission, and the drivetrain is tuned more for proven capability than efficiency.
• Safety package: The 4Runner comes with airbags, traction control, and a reversing camera, but advanced driver-assistance features are not standard. The available safety setup is basic compared with newer SUVs, so trim choice does not meaningfully solve that gap.
• Infotainment: The 4Runner does not offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The SR5 Premium adds Entune Premium Audio with Navigation, and the system is straightforward rather than cutting-edge.
• Fuel efficiency: 4WD versions return 17 mpg city, 20 highway, and 18 combined. RWD versions do 17/21/18, so efficiency is not a strong reason to choose one configuration over the other.

Which 2019 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2019 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 6 trim levels: SR5, SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, Limited, and TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core 4Runner formula with basic comfort and utility features. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it is pretty bare bones.
• SR5 Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds heated front seats, SofTex upholstery, a power front passenger seat, heated mirrors, and navigation. It gives you the biggest everyday comfort upgrade without jumping into the more specialized trims.
• TRD Off-Road: Choose this if you want the trail-focused hardware, including a locking rear differential, Multi-Terrain Select, and crawl control. It gives up some comfort content, so it suits buyers who care more about capability than amenities.
• TRD Off-Road Premium: This is the sweet spot for buyers who want off-road gear and more comfort. It brings back the Premium-style conveniences and adds a power moonroof, making it the most balanced choice for many enthusiasts.
• Limited: This trim shifts the 4Runner toward a more upscale feel with chrome accents, 20-inch wheels, leather upholstery, heated and cooled front seats, and dual-zone climate control. It suits you if you want the most comfort-oriented version.
• TRD Pro: This is the most specialized trim, with upgraded suspension, skid plates, all-terrain tires, and unique off-road styling. It is the right pick if you want the most trail-ready factory setup.

The safety content also notes that advanced driver-assistance features are not standard, so you should not expect a modern safety suite on any trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Toyota 4Runner?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,970 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.02% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 64.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $30,371, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $31,780 sits slightly below last year's $32,436.

That modest decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, it also means you should expect value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim rather than on broad market appreciation.

Because this model has strong owner satisfaction and a loyal buyer base, well-kept examples should continue to draw interest. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.81/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2019 Toyota 4Runner earns four-star ratings overall from NHTSA and three-star ratings in the rollover test.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety setup includes airbags, traction control, and a reversing camera, but the broader package is basic by modern standards. Advanced driver-assistance features are not standard, so you should not expect the kind of active safety tech that newer SUVs often include.

Should I buy a 2019 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 64% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.02% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.81/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 stands out for its old-school, off-road-first character and strong trail capability.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $34,849, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $31,780 average.
• It adds standard advanced safety features.

The bottom line: If you want the better value and are comfortable with the 2019’s older tech and basic safety equipment, this year makes sense. If you’re willing to pay more for standard advanced safety features, the 2020 is the cleaner upgrade; otherwise, the 2019 is the smarter buy for shoppers focused on capability and price.
