CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Nissan Kicks
overall

Summary
With 914 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,034, 29.9% of 2019 Nissan Kicks listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Nissan Kicks 4 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.67 / 10.
71.8% of 2019 Nissan Kicks listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2019 Nissan Kicks stands out as an affordable, fuel-efficient crossover that aims to deliver the basics of small-vehicle practicality without a high price tag. It also comes with standard advanced safety features, which adds to its appeal for buyers who want value and peace of mind in a budget-friendly package. Owners often praise its good fuel economy, solid feature content, and touch screen interface, reinforcing the Kicks’ reputation as an easygoing, everyday commuter.
That said, the 2019 Nissan Kicks is not especially strong where some shoppers expect a crossover to shine. Its performance is sluggish, all-wheel drive is not available, and the seats are described as uncomfortable. The overall impression is of a vehicle that makes sense on paper for shoppers prioritizing efficiency and affordability, but one that gives up some versatility and refinement in the process.

I am familiar with the Kicks and bought another to add to my car fleet. I like the SR models and enjoy the Bose speakers, leather heated seats, and it's confortable to drive.

The touch screen and backup camera are really good. Also the gas mileage is the best Ive seen even among sedans. The price is universally better than other comparable crossovers. It drives and feels like a rogue but much closer to the ground. The pickup speed is the only complaint. And 4wd isnt available. And the interior lights seem cheap and ineffective.

I love the fuel efficiency and the comfortable amount of passenger space and storage capacity available. I love the simple to navigate touch screen interface. It’s responsive and lively enough to keep up on the highways with ease and amazing on long drives.

This SR model has every option possible. No GPS but the CarPlay and AndroidAuto make up for it. The only other small complaint is some of the door switches do not illuminate making them hard to locate at night. Well optioned and great safety features for this price point.

Owners commonly praise its good value, solid features, and great fuel efficiency, and many also like the comfortable passenger space and touch screen interface. On the downside, the expert review points to sluggish performance and uncomfortable seats, and the overview frames it as a budget-friendly commuter rather than a vehicle built for strong versatility or refinement. Even so, if you want an affordable small crossover with useful everyday features, the Kicks fits that brief well. The market also shows 30.8% good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2019 Nissan Kicks reliable?
Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback describes it as a budget-friendly crossover with good value, solid features, and great fuel efficiency, while also highlighting its dependable everyday usefulness. The expert review reinforces that it is built around efficiency and practicality, with straightforward operation and a simple layout that should be easy to live with. It also notes that the Kicks is designed to be economical and easy to use, which supports the case for low-stress ownership. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that its weak performance and comfort compromises may matter more as mileage adds up.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Nissan Kicks?
At 71.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a lower-priced listing. Focus on signs of prior body damage, uneven wear, and any issues that could affect safety equipment or drivability. Because this model is value-oriented, condition matters a lot: a clean, well-kept example is much easier to recommend than one with unresolved cosmetic or mechanical issues.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The S trim is the most basic, with 16-inch steel wheels, manual folding mirrors, black plastic bumpers, and cloth seats, while still including a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, Siri Eyes Free, and standard automatic emergency braking. The SV adds 17-inch alloys, heated side mirrors, push-button start, remote start, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a half-digital instrument panel. The SR adds cosmetic upgrades, fog lights, full LED headlights, a 360-degree camera, and available navigation, Bose audio, heated front seats, and Prima-Tex leatherette upholstery.
- Powertrain: You get a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine with 122 horsepower and 114 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive only. Efficiency is a strength, but acceleration is limited, especially at highway speeds.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning and avoidance, front- and side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, tire pressure monitoring, and Nissan’s Easy Fill Tire Alert system. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alerts are added on the SV and SR.
- Infotainment: The standard setup is a 7-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto arrive on the SV and SR, and the digital instrument panel on those trims adds useful driver information.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA estimates 31 mpg city, 36 highway, and 33 combined.
Which 2019 Nissan Kicks trim should I buy?
The 2019 Nissan Kicks is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SV, and SR.
Here's the short version:
- S: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and can live with the most basic equipment. You still get the 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, Siri Eyes Free, three USB ports, and standard automatic emergency braking, so it covers the essentials well.
- SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the features that make the Kicks feel more modern, including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, push-button start, remote start, heated side mirrors, 17-inch alloys, and the half-digital instrument panel.
- SR: Choose this if you want the most upscale presentation and the extra convenience gear, including the 360-degree camera, full LED headlights, fog lights, and available navigation and Bose audio.
The SV is the trim most buyers should start with, and the SR’s added safety and convenience features make it the top choice if you want the fullest equipment list.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Nissan Kicks?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage but should still move quickly on strong listings.
- Deal availability: 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 911 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.26% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 71.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,003, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Nissan Kicks's resale value?
The current average of $12,037 sits slightly below last year's $12,842.
That softer pricing suggests the Kicks is still accessible on the used market, which can help keep demand steady among budget-minded shoppers. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in good condition, you may be able to limit depreciation pressure later. The model’s value-focused reputation also helps it stay relevant for buyers who prioritize affordability over performance.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 Nissan Kicks safe?
The 2019 Nissan Kicks earns an IIHS Top Safety Pick rating and Good scores in Driver Side Small Frontal Overlap, Moderate Front Overlap, Side, and Head Restraint crash tests.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes forward-collision warning and avoidance, front- and side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, tire pressure monitoring, and Nissan’s Easy Fill Tire Alert system. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alerts are added on the SV and SR trims. The standard front emergency braking is a major strength here, and it helps the Kicks stand out as a safety-forward budget crossover.
Should I buy a 2019 Nissan Kicks or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 71.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.26% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It combines standard advanced safety features with strong fuel economy and a value-focused feature set.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $11,551, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $12,037 average.
- It leans into everyday usability and commuter-friendly practicality.
The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced shopping target, the 2019 is the stronger pick because it pairs a lower market price with solid safety and good owner satisfaction. If your main goal is to spend less up front, the 2018 is the more price-sensitive alternative and still delivers the practical, commuter-focused character that defines the Kicks.
