CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLS

Summary
With 811 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,766.00, 35.4% of 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLSs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLS 4.5 / 5 stars.
70.7% of 2019 GLS models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLS stands out as the roomiest vehicle in the Mercedes-Benz lineup, with three rows of seating for six or seven people and up to 94 cubic feet of cargo space. It is positioned as a midsize SUV that blends the comfort and space of the S-Class luxury sedan with some off-road capability, which gives it a distinctive role in the brand’s range. For buyers who want a large luxury SUV that emphasizes passenger room and everyday usability, that combination is the GLS’s main appeal.
For 2019, the GLS450 carried a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 with 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, while the GLS550 used a 4.7-liter twin-turbo V8 rated at 449 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. The GLS450’s standard equipment included 19-inch wheels, Airmatic air suspension, a backup camera, forward emergency braking, Attention Assist, dual-zone climate, a sunroof, heated front seats with MB-Tex upholstery, burl walnut trim, power-folding third-row seats, an eight-inch touchscreen, HD Radio, and five years of mbrace Connect apps and remote connectivity. The GLS550 added features such as 21-inch wheels, blind spot assist, lane keeping assist, proximity entry, soft-close doors, three-zone climate, front multicontour seats with cooling, ambient lighting, illuminated running boards, navigation with real-time traffic and SiriusXM, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a Logic7 surround sound system by Harman/Kardon, and leather. A Grand Edition package was also new for the GLS450 and GLS550, bringing designo Nappa leather in Porcelain and Espresso Brown with diamond stitching and unique piping, including Nappa leather on the dash.
The 2019 GLS is also appealing because it offers a lot of luxury content in a practical package, but it is not without drawbacks. The available diesel engine was dropped for 2018, and owners have noted poor gas mileage, the lack of updated electronics, and rapid depreciation after 40,000 miles as concerns. Even so, the GLS remains attractive for shoppers who value comfort, premium materials, and a spacious three-row layout over flashier or more modern-feeling alternatives.

Just a fantastic SUV. Extremely comfortable and handles great. The biggest issue is just awful gas mileage. Maybe 10/12 in the city if youre lucky.

Amazing vehicle and owning a Mercedes is on a completely different level than most cars, SUV’s and trucks on the road today. Great experience. The only negative is they are not cheap and depreciation after 40k miles is accelerated. But in my opinion, it’s worth every penny.

| Year-Round Low | $23,776.23 |
| Year-Round High | $27,068.99 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $27,021 |

Prices have softened 11.99% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 815 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $23,776.23, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLS a good car?
Yes — the 4.5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, comfort, and luxury features, and the GLS’s three-row layout makes it especially appealing if you want a spacious luxury SUV for passengers and everyday usability. The main tradeoffs are the poor gas mileage and the lack of updated electronics, but if your priority is comfort and premium feel, this model year fits that use case well. 27.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLS reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with smooth operation and comfort that owners can count on over time. That said, the concerns about poor gas mileage, rapid depreciation after 40,000 miles, and dated electronics suggest you should think carefully about long-term ownership costs. For used buyers, the biggest risk is not just mechanical wear but whether the vehicle has been maintained well enough to preserve its luxury-car experience.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLS?
At 70.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from those with accident or title issues. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on suspension, electronics, and overall wear, since those areas matter most in a luxury SUV like this. You should also pay close attention to condition and maintenance records, because the GLS’s value depends heavily on how well it has been cared for.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLS?
This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 27.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 815 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.99% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 70.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $23,776.23, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLS's resale value?
The current average of $23,780 sits slightly below last year's $27,021.
That drop suggests the market has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can be helpful if you are buying now but less favorable if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, the key question is whether the vehicle’s condition and history can help it stand out from the broader pool of listings. Strong maintenance, clean history, and desirable equipment matter more when a model has already softened this much.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLS or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 27.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 70.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.99% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2019 if you want the classic GLS formula: a roomy, comfortable, luxury-focused three-row SUV with strong owner approval and a softer price than a year ago. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2019 remains the better fit when you value comfort, space, and a more favorable current market price over newer tech or a fresher redesign.
