How much does the 2019 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have softened 3.29% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,229 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable selection to compare.

Is the 2019 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.8/5 user rating and an 8.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its value, luxury feel, great handling, and impressive fuel efficiency. They also like the interior quality and safety features, which fits a compact SUV that aims to feel more premium than many rivals.

The main trade-offs are the unintuitive technology and the underwhelming base engine. That matters most if you want the easiest infotainment experience or the strongest everyday acceleration.

If you want a stylish compact SUV that emphasizes design, handling, safety, and a more upscale feel, this model year fits that brief well. The market also shows 34.9% good or great deals, so there are still attractive listings to find.

Is the 2019 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with many shoppers highlighting the CX-5 as a vehicle they can count on over time. That kind of praise is especially useful when you’re comparing used SUVs that may have very different maintenance histories.

The expert evaluation also supports that impression by emphasizing strong value and a well-rounded package. The cost-effectiveness notes suggest you’re getting a lot of car for the money, which can make long-term ownership feel easier to justify.

For used buyers, the biggest long-term risk is less about the model’s reputation and more about how each individual example was maintained and driven.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Mazda CX-5?

At 65.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and repair quality. Because the accident-free share is not overwhelming, condition matters as much as mileage and trim level.

Pay close attention to how the cabin and technology work in real use, since the infotainment setup is a known weak point. If you’re comparing multiple listings, focus on the examples that feel clean, complete, and well cared for rather than simply the cheapest ones.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Sport trim includes LED headlights, a push-button ignition, a 7-inch touchscreen, and a strong safety suite, while the Touring adds keyless entry, a power driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear climate vents, heated front seats, two more USB ports, and an upgraded stereo. The Grand Touring adds adaptive headlights, LED fog lights, leather upholstery, an upgraded driver display, and navigation, while the Grand Touring Reserve and Signature bring the turbocharged engine and more luxury features. The base trim is the one most likely to feel short on convenience and connectivity.
• Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine with a 6-speed automatic and 187 horsepower, while the Grand Touring Reserve and Signature use a turbocharged version with up to 250 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. The base engine is efficient enough for everyday use, but it is also the one most often described as lacking punch.
• Safety package: Mazda’s i-ActiveSense suite is standard across the range and includes automatic headlights, wipers, and high beams; lane-departure warning and assist; adaptive cruise control; and forward-collision warning and mitigation. The top-tier Signature adds the 360-degree camera and parking sensors, so lower trims miss those advanced aids.
• Infotainment: The CX-5 uses a 7-inch touchscreen, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard on everything above the base Sport trim. The system is attractive and responsive, but the scroll-wheel interface may not suit everyone.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine is rated at 25 mpg city and 31 mpg highway, while the turbocharged setup is rated at 22 mpg city and 27 mpg highway.

Which 2019 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2019 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 5 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, Signature.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and still want LED headlights, a push-button ignition, a 7-inch touchscreen, and the full standard safety suite. It makes sense if you can live without Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds key convenience and comfort upgrades, including keyless entry, a power driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control, rear vents, heated front seats, extra USB ports, and an upgraded stereo.
• Grand Touring: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel, with leather upholstery, adaptive headlights, LED fog lights, an upgraded driver display, and navigation.
• Grand Touring Reserve: This is the step up for buyers who want the turbocharged engine plus luxury features like a head-up display, power-folding mirrors, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and a windshield wiper de-icer.
• Signature: This is the top choice if you want the most premium CX-5 experience, with ambient cabin lighting, upgraded leather upholstery, real wood trim, a 360-degree camera, and parking sensors front and rear.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, but the Signature is the trim that adds the most advanced parking and visibility tech.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Mazda CX-5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,229 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.29% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 65.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,189, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $18,508 sits slightly below last year's $19,137.

That softer pricing suggests the model has already moved through some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss when it’s time to sell.

The CX-5’s strong reputation for value, style, and handling should help keep it appealing to used shoppers. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment are likely to draw more attention than neglected ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2019 Mazda CX-5 earns Top Safety Pick recognition from IIHS and five-star ratings in nearly every NHTSA category, with a four-star rating in rollover.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda’s i-ActiveSense suite is standard across the range and includes automatic headlights, wipers, and high beams; lane-departure warning and assist; adaptive cruise control; and forward-collision warning and mitigation. That gives you a strong baseline of driver assistance even on lower trims.

The main caveat is the rollover result, which is the one weaker point in an otherwise strong crash-test profile. If safety is a top priority, that’s worth noting, even though the overall safety picture remains strong.

Should I buy a 2019 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.29% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds improved handling, smartphone connectivity, and a turbocharged engine on top trims.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $16,466, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $18,508 average.
• It delivers a polished, enjoyable driving experience with a more premium feel.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $19,707, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $18,508 average.
• It leans further into premium materials and a more refined personality.

The bottom line: The 2019 is the best all-around pick if you want the updated tech, stronger top trims, and a still-reasonable used price. If you’re focused mainly on saving money, the 2018 is the better value path; if you want a newer-feeling premium-leaning CX-5, the 2020 is worth a look.

How does the 2019 Mazda CX-5 compare to the 2019 Honda CR-V?

Our experts score the 2019 Mazda CX-5 8.3/10 and the 2019 Honda CR-V 8/10. The CX-5 is the more engaging choice, with stronger style and a more premium feel. The CR-V counters with slightly better fuel economy and more listings to shop from, but it also carries a higher average used price.
