How much does the 2019 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have softened 3.14% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,264 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2019 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a model with a 4.8/5 user rating and an 8.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its value, luxury feel, great handling, and impressive fuel efficiency. They also highlight the interior quality and safety features, which lines up well with the CX-5’s upscale positioning.

The main trade-offs are the unintuitive technology and the underwhelming base engine. For you, that means the CX-5 makes the most sense if you care more about refinement, driving enjoyment, and overall value than about having the simplest interface or the strongest standard powertrain.

The market also looks reasonably healthy, with 36.9% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2019 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe the CX-5 as dependable in the way it delivers value, comfort, and confidence over time, with repeated praise for its trouble-free feel, safety features, and overall quality. The expert review also reinforces that sense of durability by emphasizing the CX-5’s polished driving character and strong all-around execution.

The standard setup is straightforward and proven, which can be a plus for long-term ownership if you want a used SUV that feels well sorted rather than experimental. For used buyers, the main risk is less about the vehicle’s core dependability and more about choosing a well-maintained example with the right equipment for your needs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Mazda CX-5?

At 66% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on condition, equipment, and signs of prior repair quality so you can separate a clean, well-kept SUV from one that has simply been priced aggressively.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Sport trim includes LED headlights, a push-button ignition, a 7-inch touchscreen, and a strong safety suite, while higher trims add conveniences like keyless entry, a power driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, leather upholstery, navigation, and more luxury-oriented features.
• Powertrain: Most trims use a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder with a 6-speed automatic and 187 horsepower, while the Grand Touring Reserve and Signature add a turbocharged version with more power and stronger torque.
• Safety package: Mazda’s i-ActiveSense suite is standard across the range and includes automatic headlights, wipers, and high beams; lane-departure warning and assist; adaptive cruise control; and forward-collision warning and mitigation. More advanced features like the 360-degree camera and parking sensors are reserved for the Signature trim.
• Infotainment: The CX-5 uses a 7-inch touchscreen with MazdaConnect, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard above the base Sport trim. The system is responsive, though the scroll-wheel interface may not suit everyone.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine is rated at 25 mpg city and 31 mpg highway, while the turbocharged setup is rated at 22 mpg city and 27 mpg highway.

Which 2019 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2019 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 5 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, and Signature.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the least expensive way into the CX-5, and it still gives you LED headlights, a push-button ignition, a 7-inch touchscreen, and the full standard safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live without Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
• Touring: This trim adds the everyday comfort upgrades many shoppers will notice most, including keyless entry, a power driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear climate vents, heated front seats, two more USB ports, and an upgraded stereo. It’s the best-value choice for many buyers because it adds useful convenience without pushing you into luxury pricing.
• Grand Touring: This trim brings a more upscale feel with adaptive headlights, LED fog lights, leather upholstery, an upgraded driver display, and navigation. It suits you if you want a more premium cabin and are willing to pay for it.
• Grand Touring Reserve: This is the first trim with the turbocharged engine, plus a head-up display, power-folding mirrors, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and a windshield wiper de-icer. Choose it if stronger performance matters to you.
• Signature: This top trim adds ambient cabin lighting, upgraded leather upholstery, real wood trim, a 360-degree camera, and parking sensors front and rear. It’s the pick if you want the most luxury and the most advanced parking aids.

The safety suite is standard across the range, while the 360-degree camera and parking sensors are saved for the Signature trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Mazda CX-5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 36.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,264 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.14% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,189, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $18,597 sits slightly below last year's $19,201.

That decline suggests the CX-5 has become a bit more affordable on the used market, which can help you buy in at a better price today. For a future seller, the softer trend means you should be realistic about short-term appreciation, especially if you’re planning to resell soon.

Even so, the model’s strong reputation for value, safety, and driving enjoyment should help it stay appealing to shoppers. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment are likely to remain easier to move than less desirable trims or poorly maintained listings.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2019 Mazda CX-5 earns top marks in nearly every NHTSA category, with a four-star rating in rollover and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests. It also earns a Top Safety Pick designation from IIHS, with the only noted weakness being an Acceptable rating for child safety anchors’ ease of use.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda’s i-ActiveSense suite is standard across the range and includes automatic headlights, wipers, and high beams; lane-departure warning and assist; adaptive cruise control; and forward-collision warning and mitigation. The main safety gap is that the 360-degree camera and parking sensors are limited to the Signature trim.

Should I buy a 2019 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 36.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.14% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Mazda added Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, improved handling, and a turbocharged engine this year.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $16,502, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $18,597 average.
• It emphasizes style and driver engagement with a more premium feel.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $19,828, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $18,597 average.
• It leans further into premium positioning with upscale materials and a comfortable ride.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of updated tech, strong safety, and a more polished driving experience, the 2019 is the smart target. If your priority is saving money, the 2018 is the better value play; if you want to spend more for a newer-feeling premium vibe, the 2020 is worth a look.

How does the 2019 Mazda CX-5 compare to the 2019 Honda CR-V?

Our experts score the 2019 Mazda CX-5 8.3/10 and the 2019 Honda CR-V 8/10. The CX-5 stands out for its stronger driving character, more upscale feel, and better expert score. The CR-V counters with slightly better fuel economy and more listings, but the CX-5 offers the better value signal and a more rewarding overall experience if you care about style and handling.
