How much does the 2022 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have softened 5.48% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,125 listings available, which suggests you should have a healthy number of options to compare.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Drivers consistently praise its affordability, smooth ride, and excellent safety features, and many also like the comfortable interior and strong performance, especially with the turbo option. The CX-5’s stylish design and fun-to-drive character help it feel more upscale than many compact SUVs, which fits its premium-leaning positioning. The main trade-offs are a cramped back seat and limited cargo space, along with technology that can feel unintuitive.

The model’s appeal is strongest if you want a compact SUV that feels polished, engaging, and family-friendly without moving into luxury-brand pricing. Good and great deals account for 40.2% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with drivers repeatedly highlighting the CX-5’s strong safety reputation and overall confidence in the vehicle. The expert review also emphasizes the SUV’s solid engineering, quieter ride, and improved structural rigidity, all of which support a sense of durability and day-to-day dependability. Mazda’s connected-services trial and standard smartphone integration can also make ownership easier in the early years.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical drama and more about whether the cabin tech and packaging still suit your needs over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mazda CX-5?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history report carefully, because accident-free listings are common but not guaranteed. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the back seat, cargo area, and infotainment controls so you know whether the CX-5’s practical compromises work for you. It’s also smart to confirm which trim-specific features are present, since some of the most useful equipment is reserved for higher trims.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The CX-5 2.5 S lineup includes base, Select, Preferred, Carbon Edition, Premium, and Premium Plus trims, while the 2.5 Turbo lineup includes base and Signature. The base 2.5 S is the value play if you want to save money and accept more leisurely acceleration, while the Signature is the most luxurious choice with premium Nappa leather, real wood trim, and polished metallic accents.
• Powertrain: The 2.5 S uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque, standard all-wheel drive, and an EPA-rated 26 mpg in combined driving. The 2.5 Turbo raises output to 256 hp on premium gas or 227 hp on regular gas, also with standard AWD, and is the choice if you want stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: The standard i-Activsense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive headlights arrive on the 2.5 S Premium, while the Signature adds a surround-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, automatic rear braking, a driver monitoring system, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses a 10.25-inch display, and it is not touch-sensing. Wireless-style convenience is limited by the lack of touch input and natural voice recognition, though Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with text-messaging support, E911 automatic emergency notification, and Mazda Connected Services.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5 S returns 26 mpg in combined driving, while the 2.5 Turbo returns 24 mpg in combined driving. If fuel economy matters more than acceleration, the non-turbo model is the better fit.

Which 2022 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 8 trim levels: base, Select, Preferred, Carbon Edition, Premium, Premium Plus, base, and Signature.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the least expensive path into the CX-5 lineup, and it makes sense if you want the model’s style, standard all-wheel drive, and core safety tech without paying for extras. It is the best-value choice for shoppers who care more about price than premium features.
• Select: This trim is the first step up from the base 2.5 S and is a sensible middle ground if you want a little more equipment without jumping too far in price.
• Preferred: This is a stronger comfort-focused choice if you want more of the upscale feel that defines the CX-5 without moving into the pricier trims.
• Carbon Edition: This trim adds a more distinctive look and sits in the sweet spot for shoppers who want style and value together.
• Premium: This is the trim where the CX-5 starts to feel more fully equipped, and it also brings the 10-speaker Bose premium sound system and SiriusXM satellite radio.
• Premium Plus: This is the most compelling upper 2.5 S trim if you want a richer feature set and the added Mi-Drive modes with Normal, Sport, and Off-Road settings.
• base: The 2.5 Turbo base trim is for buyers who want the stronger turbo engine and standard AWD, with equipment that mixes features from the Carbon Edition and Premium Plus versions.
• Signature: This is the top trim and the right pick if you want the most luxurious CX-5, plus the full safety and convenience suite, including the surround-view camera, parking sensors, automatic rear braking, driver monitoring, and Traffic Jam Assist.

The standard i-Activsense safety package is comprehensive, and the Signature is the trim that adds the most advanced safety and convenience features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mazda CX-5?

The market is leaning in your favor, with solid deal availability and a healthy supply of listings.

• Deal availability: 40.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,125 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.48% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 80.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,121, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $23,273 sits slightly below last year's $24,623.

That softer pricing can help you buy more confidently now, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about expectations if the market stays in this range. The CX-5’s strong safety reputation, premium feel, and broad appeal should help support demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in good condition, you should have a reasonable path to preserving value.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2022 Mazda CX-5 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard i-Activsense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Higher trims add more advanced protection, including adaptive headlights on the 2.5 S Premium and a surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, automatic rear braking, a driver monitoring system, and Traffic Jam Assist on the Signature.

One caveat is that the driver-assistance system can react a bit abruptly in moderate traffic when a vehicle cuts into the gap ahead.

Should I buy a 2022 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 40.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.48% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds a more premium feel, stronger driving dynamics, and top-tier safety.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,727, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,273 average.
• It offers strong value with updated tech and a new Carbon Edition.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $25,289, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $23,273 average.
• It stays fresh with the same upscale feel and a newer paint option.

The bottom line: You should start with the 2022 if you want the best mix of price, safety, and premium character. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 is the smarter value play; if you want the newest nearby version and don’t mind paying more, the 2023 is the alternative.
