CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Hyundai Elantra
overall

Summary
With 2,081 currently listed for sale and an average price of $11,659.00, 26.1% of 2019 Hyundai Elantras for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Hyundai Elantra 4.5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
54.7% of 2019 Elantra models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
Freshened up for 2019, the 2019 Hyundai Elantra remains an incredible value, but its updates do not address the car’s ho-hum driving dynamics. That makes it appealing to buyers who want a lot for the money, even if the driving experience is not the car’s strongest trait.
The 2019 Hyundai Elantra is also described as updated and upgraded, but the summary suggests that satisfaction depends heavily on choosing the turbocharged Sport trim. Owner feedback reinforces the Elantra’s practical appeal, with praise for its smooth acceleration, comfortable interior, spacious trunk, and driving assist features. At the same time, some drivers note that the cabin ceiling feels low and that the car can be a bit loud on the road.

I think the features on this car is amazing and it is a great value. It is a good size, economical, just enough power and just enough weight to be stable and a fun little car to drive around the area when running errands or the quarterly work meeting, or just to the dog park and hanging with friends. It's nice looking, and a bit loud on the road sometimes but nothing a little sound barrier lining can't fix... or shocks.

This car was a good value. It has good acceleration and a quiet interior. Personally, I like the styling of this model better than the current model year.

The features are impeccable. I love that it has three different types of “drive”, I love all of the assist features, and the trunk is really big for a Saran plus the back seats can come down! I got the best deal I could find on this car and I got it in the color I wanted. I love it. The only thing I dislike is how low the ceiling is. The seat can lower but it still feels a little strange.

| Year-Round High | $12,578.71 |

Prices have softened 7.27% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,064 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.
If you find a listing below $11,415.88, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2019 Hyundai Elantra a good car?
Yes — the 2019 Hyundai Elantra earns a 4.5/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Cost effectiveness and Technology.
Owners consistently praise its impressive features, smooth acceleration, and comfortable interior. The user feedback also points to a spacious trunk and helpful driving-assist features, which makes it appealing for daily errands and longer trips.
That lines up with the overview: you get a value-focused compact car with a comfortable cabin and easy-to-use tech. 26.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.
Is the 2019 Hyundai Elantra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable for daily errands and longer trips, with a comfortable interior and useful driving-assist features. The expert evaluation also emphasizes value, quality, and ownership perks, which supports the case for trouble-free everyday use.
Hyundai’s warranty coverage and roadside assistance add another layer of confidence for long-term ownership. For used buyers, the main risk is less about the model’s basic appeal and more about finding a well-kept example with a clean history and consistent maintenance.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Hyundai Elantra?
At 55.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has any signs of prior bodywork or uneven wear. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the equipment level matches what you expect from the trim. If you’re comparing multiple listings, the best value is usually the one with the cleanest history and the most complete service documentation.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SE misses several important features that appear on higher trims, while the SEL adds key driver-assistance equipment and the Limited brings more advanced convenience and safety features.
- Powertrain: You’re looking at a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with 147 horsepower and a 6-speed automatic transmission, and the car is tuned more for everyday efficiency than excitement.
- Safety package: Starting with the SEL trim, you get forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, a blind-spot-monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver-monitoring system. The Limited adds adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection enhancement, automatic high-beam headlights, and Safe Exit.
- Infotainment: Non-base versions get a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and satellite radio. The Limited can be upgraded to an 8-inch display with navigation, and it also adds premium audio.
- Fuel efficiency: The Elantra is rated at 32 mpg combined, and testing returned 29.3 mpg on one loop and 32.4 mpg over a week of driving.
Which 2019 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?
The 2019 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 5 trim levels: SE, SEL, Value Edition, Eco, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SE is the one to skip if you want the most useful tech and safety features, since it lacks the standard 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto found on higher trims, along with the broader driver-assistance content.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SEL is the best value pick because it adds the core safety suite, including forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and driver monitoring.
- Premium/top trim: The Limited is the most fully equipped choice, adding adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection enhancement, automatic high beams, Safe Exit, premium audio, and available navigation with an 8-inch display.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Hyundai Elantra?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile deals.
- Deal availability: 26.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,064 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.27% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 55.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,415.88, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?
The current average of $11,666 sits slightly below last year's $12,580.
That price movement suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you keep the car in good condition and maintain it well, you may be better positioned when it’s time to sell. A lower entry price today can also make it easier to stay ahead of depreciation over your ownership period.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 Hyundai Elantra safe?
The 2019 Elantra gets top marks across the board from IIHS, except for an Acceptable rating for the accessibility of its LATCH child-seat anchors. It earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star frontal-impact results and a four-star side-impact protection rating for rear-seat occupants.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety setup includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, a blind-spot-monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver-monitoring system starting with the SEL trim. The Limited trim adds adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection enhancement, automatic high-beam headlights, and Safe Exit.
The main caveat is that the NHTSA result is not as strong as the IIHS performance, so you should pay close attention to trim level and equipment when shopping used.
Should I buy a 2019 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 26.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 55.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.27% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The updated styling and improved interior quality make this year feel more polished than before.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $13,166, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $11,666 average.
- It adds free scheduled maintenance and improved fuel economy.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2019 if you want the lower purchase price and strong value story. If you’re willing to spend more for added maintenance coverage and a few extra improvements, the 2020 is the better alternative for price-insensitive buyers.
