CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Hyundai Elantra
overall

Summary
With 101 currently listed for sale near Baton Rouge, LA and an average price of $7,995.00, 31.7% of 2019 Hyundai Elantras for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Hyundai Elantra 4.5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
100.0% of 2019 Elantra models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
Freshened up for 2019, the 2019 Hyundai Elantra remains an incredible value, but its updates do not address the car’s ho-hum driving dynamics. That makes it appealing to buyers who want a lot for the money, even if the driving experience is not the car’s strongest trait.
The 2019 Hyundai Elantra is also described as updated and upgraded, but the summary suggests that satisfaction depends heavily on choosing the turbocharged Sport trim. Owner feedback reinforces the Elantra’s practical appeal, with praise for its smooth acceleration, comfortable interior, spacious trunk, and driving assist features. At the same time, some drivers note that the cabin ceiling feels low and that the car can be a bit loud on the road.

I think the features on this car is amazing and it is a great value. It is a good size, economical, just enough power and just enough weight to be stable and a fun little car to drive around the area when running errands or the quarterly work meeting, or just to the dog park and hanging with friends. It's nice looking, and a bit loud on the road sometimes but nothing a little sound barrier lining can't fix... or shocks.

This car was a good value. It has good acceleration and a quiet interior. Personally, I like the styling of this model better than the current model year.

Economic and decent car. Convenient to drive around the city

The features are impeccable. I love that it has three different types of “drive”, I love all of the assist features, and the trunk is really big for a Saran plus the back seats can come down! I got the best deal I could find on this car and I got it in the color I wanted. I love it. The only thing I dislike is how low the ceiling is. The seat can lower but it still feels a little strange.

If you find a listing below $11,415.34, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2019 Hyundai Elantra a good car?
Yes — the 2019 Hyundai Elantra earns a 4.5/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Cost effectiveness and Technology.
Owners consistently praise its impressive features, smooth acceleration, comfortable interior, spacious trunk, and driving-assist features. The overview also points to a compact car that fits daily errands and longer trips well, with a strong emphasis on value, comfort, and modern tech.
With 27.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have a meaningful chance to find a strong-value example.
Is the 2019 Hyundai Elantra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable for daily errands and longer trips, with praise centered on comfort, useful features, and overall value. The expert review also frames it as a car that delivers quality and value without much aggravation, which supports the case for trouble-free everyday use.
Hyundai’s warranty coverage and ownership perks add another layer of confidence for long-term ownership. For used buyers, the main risk is buying a neglected example, so condition and maintenance history matter.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Hyundai Elantra?
At 54.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a prior collision. Focus on bodywork quality, panel alignment, and signs that safety systems or electronics were repaired correctly. It also helps to confirm that the cabin, infotainment, and driver-assistance features all work as intended.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SE misses the 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, and several driver-assistance features that appear starting with higher trims. The SEL adds forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, a blind-spot-monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver-monitoring system.
- Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with 147 horsepower and a 6-speed automatic transmission. Acceleration is acceptable, and the car offers Normal, Sport, and Smart driving modes. The EPA says it returns 32 mpg in combined driving.
- Safety package: The standard safety suite includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, a blind-spot-monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver-monitoring system. The Limited trim adds adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection enhancement, automatic high-beam headlights, and Safe Exit system.
- Infotainment: Non-base trims get a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and satellite radio with a free 3-month trial. The Limited trim can add an 8-inch display, navigation, and SiriusXM Data Services including traffic and weather reports. Blue Link is included on Value Edition and Limited trims with a free 3-year trial.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA says the Elantra returns 32 mpg in combined driving, and the test loop returned 29.3 mpg before the trip computer later showed 32.4 mpg.
Which 2019 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?
The 2019 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 5 trim levels: SE, SEL, Value Edition, Eco, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SE is the most stripped-down choice, missing the 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, and the broader driver-assistance suite found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SEL is the best value pick because it adds the core safety equipment many shoppers want, including forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver-monitoring system.
- Premium/top trim: The Limited is the most feature-rich choice, adding adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection enhancement, automatic high beams, Safe Exit system, an Infinity premium sound system, and available 8-inch navigation-equipped infotainment.
- Off-road trim: The turbocharged Sport variants are the ones to skip if you want a calm daily driver, since the review frames them as the zesty exceptions rather than the mainstream value choice.
The Limited trim also brings the most complete safety and convenience package, while the SEL is the trim most buyers should cross-shop first.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Hyundai Elantra?
This is a moderate buyer’s market, so selective shoppers should have some leverage.
- Deal availability: 27.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,061 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.65% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 54.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,415.34, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?
The current average of $11,702 sits slightly below last year's $12,535.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend more heavily on condition, mileage, and trim than on broad market momentum. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold buyer interest better than neglected ones.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 Hyundai Elantra safe?
It earns top marks across the board from IIHS, except for an Acceptable rating for the accessibility of its LATCH child-seat anchors, and it earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star frontal-impact results and a four-star side-impact protection rating for rear-seat occupants.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety suite includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, a blind-spot-monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver-monitoring system. The Limited trim adds adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection enhancement, automatic high-beam headlights, and Safe Exit system.
The main caveat is that you should pay close attention to how well the car’s safety systems were maintained or repaired if it has prior accident history.
Should I buy a 2019 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 27.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 54.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.65% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2019 update brings revised styling, improved interior quality, and strong tech and safety value.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $13,151, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $11,702 average.
- It adds free scheduled maintenance and improved fuel economy.
The bottom line: If you want the better bargain, the 2019 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong tech, safety, and owner satisfaction. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model-year package and the added maintenance perk, the 2020 is worth a look.
