What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Honda Passport?

At 69.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the interior and electronics match the seller’s description. If you’re comparing multiple examples, a cleaner history and better maintenance record should outweigh small cosmetic differences.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim’s screen is a weak point, while the EX-L adds an 8-inch high-resolution touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and 4G WiFi. The EX-L is the best-value choice if you want a more complete cabin without jumping to the pricier upper trims.
• Powertrain: You get a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and a 9-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is optional on most trims and standard on the Elite, and the setup delivers strong passing power and solid towing ability.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keep assist. Blind-spot monitoring is standard on EX-L and above, so the lower trim leaves you with fewer safety features.
• Infotainment: The upgraded system brings an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and 4G WiFi. Live traffic data and auto-rerouting are available on the Touring and above.
• Fuel efficiency: AWD models are estimated at 19 mpg city, 24 highway, and 21 combined, while FWD models are estimated at 20/25/22.

Which 2019 Honda Passport trim should I buy?

The 2019 Honda Passport is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, EX-L, Touring, Elite.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, but it’s the trim most likely to feel stripped down because Honda doesn’t let you add packages to lower trims. It makes sense only if you want the lowest starting price and can live without the upgraded tech and convenience features.
• EX-L: This is the best-value trim. It adds the 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and 4G WiFi, and it’s the point where the Passport starts to feel properly equipped for daily use and road trips.
• Touring: Choose this if you want the added convenience of live traffic data and brighter LED headlights. It’s a better fit if you value more built-in tech and plan to spend a lot of time on the road.
• Elite: This is the most fully equipped version, with standard AWD and the highest level of features, but it’s also the most expensive and the least compelling value unless you want the top trim specifically.

Blind-spot monitoring is standard on EX-L and above trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Honda Passport?

It’s a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to reward careful shopping.

• Deal availability: 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 487 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.51% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 69.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,105, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Honda Passport's resale value?

The current average of $20,105 sits slightly below last year's $21,975.

That decline suggests the Passport has become more affordable for used buyers, which can help you get more vehicle for your money today. For a future seller, the current pricing trend means you should expect a more competitive resale environment than last year’s. Well-kept examples with strong equipment and a clean history should hold up better than rougher listings because shoppers still respond to the Passport’s practical appeal.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Honda Passport safe?

The 2019 Honda Passport earns four-star ratings in front crash tests and five-star ratings in all five side-impact tests from NHTSA.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keep assist. Blind-spot monitoring is standard on EX-L and above trims. One caveat is that the Passport has not been fully rated by NHTSA overall, and IIHS has not tested it directly; the safety discussion also notes that it lacks knee airbags.

Should I buy a 2019 Honda Passport or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.51% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 stands out for its straightforward, spacious, back-to-basics SUV character.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $22,174, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $20,105 average.
• It carries over unchanged, while leaning a bit more into a rugged, adventurous character.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2019 is the smarter buy because pricing has softened and owner satisfaction is strong. If you’re willing to pay more for the next model year’s slightly more rugged positioning, the 2020 is the alternative to compare.

How does the 2019 Honda Passport compare to the 2019 Toyota 4Runner?

Our experts score the 2019 Honda Passport 7.5/10 and the 2019 Toyota 4Runner 7.2/10.

The Passport is the better value if you want a lower used price, stronger fuel economy, and a more road-friendly daily driver. The 4Runner asks for more money, but it brings a traditional body-on-frame setup and a larger used-market presence. If you care most about comfort, efficiency, and deal availability, the Passport is the easier recommendation.
