CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Honda Passport
overall

Summary
With 67 currently listed for sale near Akron, OH and an average price of $24,898.00, 37.3% of 2020 Honda Passports for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Honda Passport 4.45 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.83 / 10.
83.6% of 2020 Passport models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Honda Passport stands out as a rugged, two-row crossover that brings a more upmarket take on Honda SUV transportation. It is described as being just as comfortable on the road as it is on the trail, which gives it a broad appeal for buyers who want everyday usability without giving up off-road capability. Its thoughtful interior functionality adds to that practicality, while its stylish design and comfortable ride help it feel more polished than a purely utilitarian SUV.
For 2020, the Passport carries over unchanged, so its appeal is rooted in the same formula rather than a fresh round of updates. That makes it a straightforward choice for shoppers who value comfort and versatility, but it also means there is no new equipment story to lean on for this model year. The main drawback noted is poor fuel economy, which is worth considering for buyers who prioritize efficiency.

I’m a car guy first and a Honda fan boy second. I’m currently in need of a newish vehicle so I can Uber. I have 2 Honda already a 2005 CRV and a 2006 Element. Both are great cars but have aged out of Ubers guidelines so a Passport may be in my future. The size of the Passport is great it holds 5 passengers comfortably and lots of room for luggage in the back. The height of the vehicle is comfortable to get in and out. During the test drive the engine was strong but the 9 speed transmission was a little laggy but did get the job done once it woke up. This is a known issue that Honda addressed with the newer 10 speed transmission update. My other nit pick is the infotainment system is little dated. The Kia Sorento of the same year has a way better display and GUI. Those 2 gripes aside I do think there will be a Honda Passport in my driveway this week.

I love this car! It is definitely a great value. Even the basic trim package has great features. It is pretty much the same as the Honda pilot but without the third row. Its incredibly roomy, so comfortable, and drives smoother than any other suv I drove.

I test drove an Elite and it has a smooth ride, nice features and user friendly too. I am not sure it is worth the value now with the car prices being inflated due to the chip shortage but if it were a few thousand less, then yes definitely worth the value. I was impressed with the quality of the interior and space. The engine is a little loud when you hut the gas but other than that great suv.

Is the 2020 Honda Passport a good car?
Generally — the 2020 Honda Passport earns a 4.45/5 user rating and an 8.83/10 expert rating, which points to broad appeal for shoppers who want comfort and versatility. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.
Drivers consistently praise its comfort, spaciousness, smooth ride, and strong V6 engine, and many also like the utility it offers for hauling cargo. The Passport’s rugged, two-row setup and thoughtful interior functionality make it a fit if you want everyday usability without giving up trail-friendly capability.
The trade-offs are that some owners mention electrical issues and an infotainment system that feels outdated, and the expert review also calls out poor fuel economy. For you, that means the Passport makes the most sense if comfort, space, and capability matter more than efficiency or the latest tech.
It also shows 32.1% good or great deals in the market, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2020 Honda Passport reliable?
Owners rate it 4.45/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. User feedback also points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable and comfortable over time, with praise for its smooth ride and strong utility.
The expert review reinforces that sense of durability by describing the Passport as capable and composed in a variety of driving situations, including highway use and trail driving. It also notes that the model held its own without noticeable degradation during demanding testing.
If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure any electrical or infotainment concerns have been addressed before you commit.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda Passport?
At 71.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the electronics and infotainment system operate cleanly. Because this model year is already a few years old, you’ll want to make sure the vehicle’s comfort and utility haven’t been offset by hidden wear.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The four trim levels are Sport, EX-L, Touring, and Elite. The base trim comes with a 5.0-inch display monitor, while higher trims get an 8.0-inch infotainment screen and more upscale cabin features. Lower trims also miss some of the richer comfort and convenience equipment found higher up the range.
- Powertrain: Every Passport uses a 3.5-liter V6 with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on the lower trims, all-wheel drive is available, and the engine is described as smooth and sufficient for a variety of driving situations. Fuel economy is a weak point, especially with all-wheel drive.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes Collision Mitigation Braking System with forward-collision warning, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. Higher trims add blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, rear cross-traffic detection, and dynamic gridlines for the rearview camera.
- Infotainment: The base trim gets a 5.0-inch display, while EX-L, Touring, and Elite trims get an 8.0-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims can also add a wireless phone charger and Wi-Fi hot spot.
- Fuel efficiency: Front-wheel-drive models are rated at 20 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. All-wheel-drive models return 19 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined. The review also notes poor fuel economy overall.
Which 2020 Honda Passport trim should I buy?
The 2020 Honda Passport is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, EX-L, Touring, and Elite.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The Sport is the most stripped-down choice, with the smaller 5.0-inch display and fewer convenience features than the higher trims. It still gets Honda Sensing, but you give up some of the nicer cabin and tech upgrades.
- Sweet-spot trim: The EX-L is the best value if you want the larger 8.0-inch touchscreen and a more upscale everyday experience without jumping all the way to the top of the range.
- Premium/top trim: The Elite is the most fully equipped version, with perforated heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, heated rear outboard seats, a moonroof, and a 10-way power driver’s seat with memory.
- Off-road trim: If you want the most trail-ready setup, the Elite’s standard torque-vectoring all-wheel drive and drive modes make it the strongest choice, though its higher price makes it less compelling for typical daily driving.
Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, but blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and rear cross-traffic detection are reserved for higher trims.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda Passport?
The market looks moderately favorable if you’re a selective buyer.
- Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 857 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.20% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 71.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,364.14, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Honda Passport's resale value?
The current average of $22,440 sits slightly below last year's $24,445.
That price movement suggests the Passport has softened enough to help current buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy at the current average or below, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later. The Passport’s broad appeal as a comfortable, capable two-row SUV should help support demand, especially for well-kept examples.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.45/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Honda Passport safe?
The 2020 Passport achieved good scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration crash test and evaluation, and it was named an IIHS Top Safety Pick.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is standard and includes Collision Mitigation Braking System with forward-collision warning, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. A rearview camera with a birds-eye view is also standard.
Higher trims add dynamic gridlines for the rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and rear cross-traffic detection. That means the core safety package is strong, but some useful driver-assistance features still require an upgrade.
Should I buy a 2020 Honda Passport or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 71.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.20% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.45/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It carries over unchanged, so you’re buying the established formula rather than waiting for a redesign.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $20,917, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $22,440 average.
- It emphasizes basic transportation, space, and all-wheel-drive utility.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $25,014, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $22,440 average.
- It adds some additional features while keeping the Passport’s adventurous, daily-driver character.
The bottom line: The 2020 Passport makes sense if you want the familiar formula at a softer price than last year and you value comfort, space, and capability. If your priority is saving money, the 2019 is the better value play; if you want to spend more for a newer model-year step-up, the 2021 is the next move to compare.
