In practical terms, that lines up with the Sierra’s redesigned, more capable, more useful setup and its appeal as a modern full-size pickup that feels upscale rather than purely utilitarian.

The market also shows 33.4% of listings as good or great deals, so you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.41/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a truck that many people find dependable and trouble-free over time, with repeated praise for its solid performance and comfortable, luxurious character. The expert review also describes the Sierra as a capable, durable, and sophisticated full-size pickup, which supports the idea that it is built for long-term use.

The truck’s powertrain lineup is broad, and the review notes that the transmission performed well in testing, though some owners have raised concerns about transmission issues. GMC also includes a 30-day trial for connected services, which is a small ownership perk but not a major maintenance advantage.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a truck with this much complexity can be more expensive to sort out if prior owners skipped maintenance or if transmission concerns show up.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 GMC Sierra 1500?

At 71.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on trucks with higher mileage or signs of hard use. Focus on body condition, drivetrain behavior, and evidence of prior repairs, since a clean-looking truck can still hide expensive issues. It also makes sense to compare trim equipment carefully, because some versions add meaningful comfort and safety content while others leave out features you may want.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base, SLE, SLT, Elevation, AT4, and Denali span the lineup, with the Denali adding premium leather, open-pore wood trim, and real aluminum accents. The base truck is the most stripped-down, while the higher trims are where you get the more upscale feel and the most complete feature set.
• Powertrain: The Sierra offers multiple drivetrains, including a 6.2-liter V8 with 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque in the test truck, plus a 10-speed automatic and Autotrac 4WD. GMC also highlights Dynamic Fuel Management for improved efficiency across its V8 engines.
• Safety package: Driver Alert Package 1 adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors. Driver Alert Package 2, available on SLT, AT4, and Denali, adds forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, low-speed automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights.
• Infotainment: All Sierras include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, GMC Connected Services through OnStar, and a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot. The test truck also had an 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, a Bose premium sound system, and a head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: The test truck’s EPA estimate is 17 mpg in combined driving, and the review notes about 15.4 mpg on a test loop and 16.3 mpg after a week of driving.

Which 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 is offered in 6 trim levels: Base, SLE, SLT, Elevation, AT4, Denali.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the entry point if you want the lowest starting price, but it is the most basic version and is best only if you care more about utility than comfort or upscale features.
• SLE: This is the smart starting point for many shoppers because it builds on the base truck with a more complete everyday setup and serves as the foundation for the Elevation package.
• SLT: This is the best-value trim for many used buyers because it moves you closer to the Sierra’s upscale personality without jumping all the way to Denali pricing.
• Elevation: Choose this if you want the SLE-based custom look and a more distinctive appearance without stepping into the highest-priced trims.
• AT4: This is the right pick if you want the off-road-oriented version of the Sierra lineup and prefer a more rugged character.
• Denali: This is the luxury choice, with premium leather, open-pore wood trim, real aluminum accents, and the most upscale cabin presentation.

Driver Alert Package 1 is available across the lineup, while Driver Alert Package 2 is optional on SLT, AT4, and Denali.

• Inventory: There are 5,149 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.67% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $30,919, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500's resale value?

The current average of $30,919 sits slightly below last year's $34,230.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer now, but it also means future sellers may need to be more competitive if the market stays loose. A truck that has already moved down in price can still hold appeal if it has the right trim, condition, and equipment mix. Strong owner satisfaction also helps support demand when it is time to resell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.41/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 safe?

The 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Every version includes or can be fitted with Driver Alert Package 1, which brings blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors. SLT, AT4, and Denali can also get Driver Alert Package 2, which adds forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, low-speed automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights.

One important caveat is that adaptive cruise control, full-speed-range automatic braking, and lane-centering assist are not included. Crash-test ratings were not available at the time of the review.

Should I buy a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 71.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.67% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.41/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The redesigned truck brings a stronger, more modern full-size pickup feel.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $26,097, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $30,919 average.
• It offers more standard content and a stronger value story.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $32,965, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $30,919 average.
• It adds more everyday usability and utility-minded features.

The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Sierra and can find a clean, well-equipped example, the 2019 is the better all-around choice. If your priority is saving money, the 2018 is the more budget-friendly path, while the 2020 makes sense if you want to spend more for added usability and convenience.
