How much does the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 cost?

There are 9,762 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 a good car?

Generally — the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 earns a 4.33/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise its stylish design, advanced technology, and comfortable ride, and many also like the variety of configurations and the improved interior versus older models. The trade-offs are that it can feel like too much tech for a truck, and the cabin quality still trails some rivals.

That fits the Sierra’s role as a luxury-leaning full-size pickup: you get a truck that can work hard, but also aims for a more upscale daily-driving experience. With 36.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a truck that feels dependable enough for many buyers, with praise centered on comfort, technology, and overall ownership appeal. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Sierra’s diesel powertrain is lively and that the truck feels composed and smooth on the road, which supports confidence in everyday use.

The ownership risk to watch is long-term engine-related concern, so a careful pre-purchase inspection and service-history review matter more than usual.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 GMC Sierra 1500?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report, verify maintenance records, and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage truck or one with more complex equipment. Focus on condition, feature operation, and signs of hard use, since this model can be loaded with technology and capability features that are worth checking carefully.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Pro keeps things simpler with a 7-inch touchscreen, cloth seats, Bluetooth connectivity, and a more straightforward cabin layout. Higher trims add more comfort and convenience, while the Denali Ultimate brings nearly every feature optional on other trims.
• Powertrain: You can choose a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, a 3.0-liter Duramax turbocharged inline-six diesel, a 5.3-liter V8, or a 6.2-liter V8. The diesel stands out for its strong torque and efficiency, while the V8s bring more traditional full-size-truck muscle.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and Teen Driver. Higher trims add blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera system, Safety Alert seat, and Super Cruise.
• Infotainment: The base Pro uses a 7-inch touchscreen, while other trims get a 13.4-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The updated system also adds Google-connected apps and a more advanced interface.
• Fuel efficiency: The Duramax turbodiesel with RWD returns 24 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined. The 2.7-liter turbo-four returns 19 mpg city, 22 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined, while the 5.3-liter V8 returns 16 mpg city, 21 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined.

Which 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 is offered in 8 trim levels: Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Pro: This is the value-focused starting point if you want the Sierra’s core capability without the extra complexity. It keeps the simpler infotainment setup and the essentials, which makes it the best fit if you want a work-first truck.
• SLE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, a larger touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, and a digital instrument panel.
• Elevation: This trim builds on the SLE and opens the door to more available options and packages, so it suits you if you want a more customized truck without jumping straight to the pricier luxury trims.
• SLT: This is the comfort step-up, adding leather upholstery, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, memory settings, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. It makes sense if you want a more premium daily driver.
• AT4: This is the off-road-oriented choice, with standard 4WD, skid plates, a lifted suspension, a two-speed transfer case, and an upgraded air filter. It’s the right pick if trail use matters.
• AT4X: This is the most serious off-road model, with AEV partnership hardware, steel bumpers, an integrated front winch, mud-terrain tires, upgraded dampers, and locking differentials. Choose it if you want maximum trail capability.
• Denali: This is where the Sierra’s luxury mission becomes obvious, with unique styling, a Bose premium audio system, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, and a bed-view camera.
• Denali Ultimate: This is the top luxury trim and the one to buy if you want the most upscale Sierra experience, with massaging front seats, a 12-speaker Bose system, 22-inch wheels, and the most complete feature set.

The safety package is strongest on the higher trims, and Denali Ultimate gets every available driver-assistance feature, including Super Cruise.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 GMC Sierra 1500?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you know what you want.

• Deal availability: 36.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 9,762 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.85% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 91.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $44,495, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500's resale value?

The current average of $44,495 sits slightly below last year's $49,354.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more carefully now but may also mean future resale gains are more limited if depreciation continues at the same pace. For a seller, the current trend points to a truck that still has demand, but not enough scarcity to support a strong premium.

Well-equipped trims and desirable features can still help your truck stand out when it’s time to sell. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 safe?

The 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes standard with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and Teen Driver. Higher trims add blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera system, Safety Alert seat, and Super Cruise hands-free highway driving.

That means the Sierra can be equipped with a very strong safety and driver-assistance package, but you should pay close attention to trim level because some of the most advanced features are not standard across the lineup. The available surround-view camera and parking sensors are especially useful on a truck this large.

Should I buy a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 36.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.85% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 adds a luxury-leaning Denali Ultimate trim and a broad mix of comfort, tech, and capability.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $41,360, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $44,495 average.
• It brings a major makeover with bolder styling and more upscale tech.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $47,462, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $44,495 average.
• It leans even harder into versatility, with broad configuration choices and updated tech.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and luxury ambition, the 2023 is the sweet spot to target. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better value play; if you want to spend more for a newer model-year alternative, the 2024 is worth comparing, but you’ll pay more for it.
