There are 1,592 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2019 Ford Ranger a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Ford Ranger earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its robust performance, advanced technology, and good fuel economy. The Ranger’s towing capacity and responsive engine also come through as recurring positives, which fits its role as a straightforward midsize pickup for buyers who want capability without a lot of complexity.

At the same time, the truck’s appeal is strongest if you value utility over refinement, since the overview points to mixed reactions on comfort and design. With 31.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop carefully for the right example.

Is the 2019 Ford Ranger reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user review summary points to a truck that many owners found dependable in day-to-day use, with praise for its robust performance and good fuel economy. That same feedback also suggests you can count on the Ranger’s responsive engine and towing ability, which matters if you plan to use it as a workhorse or weekend hauler.

The expert notes also support that impression, describing the 2.3-liter turbocharged engine as a stout, eager unit and saying there’s no indication of issues so far. Ford’s cost-effectiveness commentary also frames it as a cheap, capable truck, which can help reduce ownership stress if you buy one in good condition.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the core powertrain and more about finding a truck that has been maintained well and not overworked.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Ford Ranger?

At 74.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has towing or fleet use in its past. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear from hard use, and whether the truck’s equipment matches the trim and options you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base XL is the most stripped-down version, with steel 16-inch wheels, a manual-locking tailgate, cloth upholstery, and a spartan 4-speaker stereo. It still includes a rear-view camera, USB port, and forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, but you’ll want to compare it carefully against higher trims if you care about comfort and convenience.
• Powertrain: The Ranger uses a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine paired with a 10-speed transmission. The engine is described as stout and eager, and the EPA-estimated 23 mpg combined, with 21 city and 26 highway, is competitive for the class.
• Safety package: Ford’s Co-Pilot360 system adds auto high beams, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and trailer tow monitoring, lane-keep warning and assist, forward and reverse parking sensors, and a 110-volt power outlet. The base XL can be equipped with some of these features through packages, so check carefully for trim-level gaps.
• Infotainment: The XLT can be equipped with a 4.2-inch center screen with Ford Sync, and the available Sync 3 system adds Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and SiriusXM. The Lariat upgrades to an 8-inch touchscreen.
• Fuel efficiency: The Ranger is rated at 23 mpg combined, with 21 city and 26 highway.

Which 2019 Ford Ranger trim should I buy?

The 2019 Ford Ranger is offered in 3 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and can live with a basic cabin. It still gives you useful standard equipment like a rear-view camera and forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, but it’s clearly the most bare-bones version.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a more complete everyday setup, including a 4.2-inch center screen, Ford Sync, a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot, and an upgraded 6-speaker stereo. It also opens the door to Sync 3, which adds Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
• Lariat: Choose this if you want the most comfort and convenience features, including leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, an upgraded 8-inch touchscreen, and 18-inch alloys.

Ford’s Co-Pilot360 safety package is available on the XL, so check whether a lower-trim truck has that equipment before paying more for a higher trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Ford Ranger?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,592 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.49% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 74.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,463, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Ford Ranger's resale value?

The current average of $22,466 sits slightly below last year's $24,822.

That decline suggests the Ranger has become more affordable for buyers, but it also means a future seller may face a softer pricing environment than owners saw a year ago. If you buy now, you’re entering at a lower cost basis than last year’s shoppers, which can help cushion depreciation.

The truck’s strong reputation for performance and capability should still support demand, especially among buyers who want a practical midsize pickup. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold up better than rougher trucks with heavy-use histories.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Ford Ranger safe?

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford’s Co-Pilot360 suite is available, and it includes auto high beams, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and trailer tow monitoring, lane-keep warning and assist, forward and reverse parking sensors, and a 110-volt power outlet. The base XL also includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, but some of the broader driver-assistance coverage depends on trim and package selection.

The safety writeup also notes that test data from NHTSA and IIHS was unavailable, so you should lean more heavily on equipment verification and condition when shopping used. There is also a recall noted for a shifter wiring sub-harness issue, so confirming recall completion is a smart step before you buy.

Should I buy a 2019 Ford Ranger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 74.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.49% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019’s appeal is its simple single-engine setup and strong value positioning.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $24,062, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $22,466 average.
• It adds a more technology-forward appeal with a terrific optional infotainment system.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2019 is the smarter buy because it combines lower pricing with strong owner satisfaction and solid capability. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year and a more tech-focused setup, the 2020 is the better secondary path.
