Used 2021 Ford Ranger for Sale nearProvidence, RI

How much does the 2021 Ford Ranger cost?

Prices have softened 7.77% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,221 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Ford Ranger a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Ford Ranger earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.00/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

Drivers consistently praise its strong towing abilities, plenty of power, and spaciousness, and they also call out its comfort for both suburban life and work. The Ranger’s use case is straightforward: it’s aimed at buyers who want a midsize pickup that can handle daily duties and still feel capable when the job gets tougher.

The trade-offs are clear, though: the styling is uninspired, the interior materials feel cheap, and the technology is described as outdated. Even so, the market still shows 33.4% good or great deals, which suggests you can shop with some leverage.

Is the 2021 Ford Ranger reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a truck that feels solid, capable, and comfortable, which supports the idea that you can count on it for everyday use and work duties. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Ranger’s turbocharged engine delivers strong, refined power, and the Tremor setup adds hardware meant for difficult terrain rather than gimmicks.

Ford’s cost-effectiveness commentary also frames the Ranger as broadly appealing because of its comfortable seats, strong tow/haul ratings, and off-road capability. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright capability and more about whether the truck’s condition and maintenance history match its mileage and use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford Ranger?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any truck you’re considering, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a vehicle-specific check. Prioritize an inspection that focuses on body condition, signs of hard use, and whether the truck’s equipment matches the trim and package claims. If you’re shopping a Ranger that’s been used for towing or trail duty, pay extra attention to wear on the suspension, tires, and underbody.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Ranger comes in XL, XLT, and Lariat trims, and the base setup is simpler than the higher trims. The cabin is described as clean and contemporary, but hard plastic is common, so you’ll want to compare equipment carefully if you care about comfort and convenience.
• Powertrain: Every Ranger uses a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and it’s available with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. The engine makes 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, and the Tremor package adds off-road suspension hardware, a locking rear differential, Trail Control, and terrain modes.
• Safety package: Co-Pilot360 includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, and trailer coverage. Adaptive cruise control is standard on Lariat, but it does not offer full-stop or stop-and-go capability.
• Infotainment: The Ranger uses an 8-inch touchscreen with Sync 3, voice recognition, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD Radio, SiriusXM, AppLink with Waze and Ford + Alexa, FordPass Connect with a 4G WiFi hotspot, navigation, and a Bang & Olufsen premium sound system.
• Fuel efficiency: The Tremor version is rated at 19 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway, for 19 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Ford Ranger trim should I buy?

The 2021 Ford Ranger is offered in 3 trim levels: XL, XLT, and Lariat.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the simplest path into the Ranger lineup, so it makes sense if you want the truck’s core capability without paying for extra comfort or tech. It still gives you the Ranger’s standard turbocharged engine and 10-speed automatic, but you should expect fewer convenience and luxury touches than the higher trims.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it sits in the middle of the lineup and should balance equipment and price better than the base truck or the top trim. If you want a Ranger that feels more complete without chasing the most expensive version, this is the one to focus on.
• Lariat: This is the trim to choose if you want the most upscale Ranger experience, including standard adaptive cruise control. It also pairs especially well with the Tremor Off-Road Package if you want the most capable and best-equipped version of the truck.

Ford’s Co-Pilot360 safety suite is available across the lineup, while adaptive cruise control is standard on Lariat but does not include full-stop or stop-and-go functionality.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford Ranger?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,221 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.77% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 80.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,126, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Ford Ranger's resale value?

The current average of $26,126 sits slightly below last year's $28,328.

That price movement suggests the Ranger has already given back some value, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the truck in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to preserve value than someone who pays near the top of the range.

The Ranger’s broad appeal helps support demand because it combines capability, comfort, and useful technology in a midsize package. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Ford Ranger safe?

The 2021 Ford Ranger earns an overall four-star rating from NHTSA and gets top scores aside from an Acceptable rating for front-passenger protection in the small-overlap frontal-impact test and a Marginal rating for its headlights.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford’s Co-Pilot360 suite includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, and trailer coverage. The truck also offers a reversing camera, and depending on configuration, rain-sensing wipers, wiper-activated headlights, wiper de-icer, and front and rear parking sensors.

The main caveat is that crashworthiness is good, but not great, and the headlight result is a notable weak point. If safety is a top priority, you should pay close attention to the exact equipment on the truck you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2021 Ford Ranger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.77% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The Tremor package gives the Ranger a more serious off-road identity for difficult terrain.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $24,062, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $26,126 average.
• It blends capability with technology.

The 2021 is the better pick if you want the stronger market mix of inventory, price movement, and the added appeal of the Tremor setup. If your priority is simply spending less up front, the 2020 is the more budget-friendly route, especially if you can find one with the right equipment and condition.
