Why it stands out
The 2019 Ford Fusion Energi stands out as a plug-in hybrid that Ford used to keep the Fusion relevant near the end of its run. For 2019, it gets a mild facelift, and Ford also gives it fresh safety technology through the Co-Pilot360 suite. That package adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, automatic high-beams, and a reversing camera, and it comes standard across the range.
The biggest mechanical update is the Energi’s increased battery capacity, which rises from 7.6 kWh to 9.0 kWh thanks to more energy-dense chemistry. That change lifts the stated electric range from 21 to 25 miles, putting it in line with the Prius Prime. In practice, the 2019 Fusion Energi should appeal to buyers who want a comfortable, quiet plug-in hybrid with good efficiency and a strong safety feature set, though the battery does take a toll on trunk space and some owners say the electric range does not always meet expectations.

The car gets rated gas mileage maybe a little bit better and does what its supposed to do. It has a quiet confident ride. It has a small trunk due to the battery being in it, but surprisingly you can still pack a fair amount of luggage in it. A overall good hybrid plug-in sedan

Upgraded from a base trim Honda Civic. Love the heated, air conditioned, and leather seats and the plug in hybrid drivetrain. I hear Ford licensed Toyotas prime drivetrain for this. The trunk is 40% battery, and it doesnt always deliver the displayed electric range, but now I fuel up once a month instead of once a week.

How much does the 2019 Ford Fusion Energi cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,414 |
| Year-Round Low | $14,692.66 |
| Year-Round High | $16,853.51 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $16,872 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −8.64% |
Prices have softened 8.64% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 89 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy. If you find a listing below $14,692.66, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2019 Ford Fusion Energi a good car?
Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 8/10.
Drivers consistently praise its comfort, quiet ride, and decent gas mileage, and many also like the handling and safety features. For you, that means this model year fits best if you want a comfortable plug-in hybrid with a calm driving experience and strong standard safety tech. It also has a market where 25.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2019 Ford Fusion Energi reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback points to a car that feels comfortable, quiet, and easy to live with, while also highlighting decent gas mileage and safety features. The expert drive notes that the car can deliver strong overall range for a plug-in hybrid, and it also suggests the powertrain is capable of going a long stretch before you need to refuel. Ford’s increased battery capacity also brings a larger federal tax credit this year, which helps offset ownership costs.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the battery-heavy design can reduce practicality, and you should pay close attention to whether the electric range and overall condition still match your expectations.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Ford Fusion Energi?
At 67.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or signs of heavy use. Focus on the battery-related driving experience, the condition of the brakes, and whether the cabin and cargo area still suit your needs. Because the trunk is notably limited, it’s worth checking that the reduced cargo space won’t be a problem for your routine.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Fusion Energi is available in only the top-tier Titanium trim, so you’re shopping one well-equipped version rather than comparing multiple gas-model trims. It brings a more premium feature set, but the cabin materials and switchgear still don’t feel especially upscale for the price.
- Powertrain: The plug-in hybrid setup gets a larger battery this year, which raises the stated electric range to 25 miles and gives you strong total driving range. The electric motor has enough torque to overwhelm traction at times, especially in wet conditions.
- Safety package: Co-Pilot360 is standard and includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, automatic high-beams, and a reversing camera. You should note that lane-keep cannot be disabled.
- Infotainment: You get the Sync 3 interface, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a 12-speaker Sony stereo. The system is competent, though it can lag at times.
- Fuel efficiency: The expert drive notes that the car can go nearly a full week before the gas gauge moves, and it offers more than 600 miles of total range.
Which 2019 Ford Fusion Energi trim should I buy?
The 2019 Ford Fusion Energi is offered in 1 trim level: Titanium.
Here's the short version:
Titanium: This is the only choice, so your decision is really whether the Fusion Energi’s comfort, standard tech, and safety equipment are worth the plug-in hybrid tradeoffs. It comes with heated and ventilated front power seats, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry and ignition with remote start, ambient lighting, automatic wipers, LEDs all around, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and the Sony audio system. It suits you best if you want a fully equipped plug-in hybrid and can live with the limited trunk space.
The standard Co-Pilot360 safety suite is a major plus, but you should be aware that lane-keep cannot be turned off.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Ford Fusion Energi?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find opportunities.
- Deal availability: 25.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 89 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.64% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 67.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,692.66, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Ford Fusion Energi's resale value?
The current average of $15,414 sits slightly below last year's $16,872.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the car easier to buy now but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key question is whether the car’s plug-in hybrid appeal and standard safety equipment can keep demand steady enough to offset the model’s age and practicality compromises. A well-kept example with strong documentation should still be easier to move than one with questionable history or visible wear.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 Ford Fusion Energi safe?
It earns an overall five-star rating from NHTSA, with a three-star rating in the front-passenger test and a four-star rating for rollover. It also earns Top Safety Pick recognition from IIHS, though the headlights received a Poor rating and child-seat anchor ease of use received a Marginal rating.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard Co-Pilot360 suite includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, automatic high-beams, and a reversing camera. That’s a strong set of standard driver aids, and it helps the Fusion Energi stay competitive. The main caveat is that lane-keep cannot be disabled, and the braking performance is a concern because stopping distances are longer than average.
Should I buy a 2019 Ford Fusion Energi or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 25.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 67.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.64% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2019 stands out for its updated battery capacity, longer electric range, and standard Co-Pilot360 safety tech.
The bottom line: If you want the most up-to-date version of this plug-in hybrid, the 2019 is the one to target because it brings the improved battery, added range, and standard safety suite. If you’re more price-sensitive, you should shop carefully and compare condition, accident history, and asking price closely, since the market still shows a meaningful share of non-clean listings and the model’s practicality tradeoffs remain part of the ownership equation.
