Is the 2018 Volvo XC60 a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Volvo XC60 earns a 4.89/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the luxurious interior, smooth ride, and impressive safety features, and they also highlight the comfort and family-friendly appeal. In use, the XC60 is framed as a premium crossover for you if you want something a little less conventional, with Scandinavian styling, strong technology, and a distinctive personality.

Is the 2018 Volvo XC60 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.89/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a vehicle that feels luxurious, comfortable, and safe, while also noting concerns about electronics and potential reliability issues, especially on higher-mileage examples. The expert review also emphasizes the XC60’s strong safety and technology focus, along with a well-rounded driving experience that should appeal to buyers who want a premium crossover they can count on for daily use.

If you’re shopping used, the main long-term ownership risk is that higher-mileage examples may be more likely to show electronic or durability-related issues, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Volvo XC60?

At 73.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example. Focus on signs of prior body damage, electronic quirks, and how well the cabin and safety systems are functioning. Because this model leans heavily on technology, you’ll want to make sure the features you care about work as intended before you buy.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base Momentum trim includes a panoramic sunroof, active safety features, 18-inch wheels, and a 10-way power driver’s seat, while R-Design adds more technology, more aggressive design, and 19-inch wheels. Inscription brings unique stitched leather trim, interior chrome accents, and optional driftwood inlays.
• Powertrain: Every XC60 comes with standard all-wheel drive, an 8-speed automatic transmission, and a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. T5 models make 250 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, T6 models add a supercharger for up to 316 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, and the T8 plug-in hybrid combines gas and electric power for 400 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque.
• Safety package: Volvo’s City Safety package is standard and can stop the car or steer it away from potential collisions with pedestrians, bikes, and other cars at low speeds, while also helping reduce crash impact at higher speeds. Oncoming Lane Mitigation is new for 2018, and blind-spot detection plus lane-keep assist are available in the Vision package.
• Infotainment: Every XC60 comes with a 9-inch Sensus touchscreen, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. The system is highly customizable, but it also relies on layered menus that can be distracting to use.
• Fuel efficiency: The T8 plug-in hybrid can travel up to 17 miles on electric power and is supposed to return a combined 26 mpg. The T6 Momentum with the Convenience Package is described as getting around 23 mpg combined.

Which 2018 Volvo XC60 trim should I buy?

The 2018 Volvo XC60 is offered in 3 trim levels: Momentum, R-Design, Inscription.

Here's the short version:

• Momentum: This is the best-value trim if you want the core XC60 experience without stretching too far. You get the panoramic sunroof, active safety features, 18-inch wheels, and a 10-way power driver’s seat, which makes it the most sensible starting point for many shoppers.
• R-Design: Choose this if you want more technology and a sportier look. It adds more aggressive design and 19-inch wheels, so it suits you if style and a richer feature set matter more than keeping the price down.
• Inscription: This is the luxury-focused choice, with unique stitched leather trim, interior chrome accents, and optional driftwood inlays. It’s the trim to consider if you want the most upscale cabin presentation.

Blind-spot detection and lane-keep assist are optional and must be ordered as part of the Vision package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Volvo XC60?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 37.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 689 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.15% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 73.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,606, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Volvo XC60's resale value?

The current average of $17,713 sits slightly below last year's $19,497.

That decline suggests the XC60 has become more affordable for you as a buyer, but it also means a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out. The current market shows a softer pricing environment, so resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained. Well-kept examples should still attract interest because the XC60 has a strong premium image and broad appeal.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.89/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Volvo XC60 safe?

The 2018 Volvo XC60 earns an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick + rating.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Volvo’s City Safety package is standard, and it can stop the car or steer it away from potential collisions with pedestrians, bikes, and other cars at low speeds. At higher speeds, it engages the brakes to help lessen crash impact. New for 2018, Oncoming Lane Mitigation can steer you back on track if you drift toward an oncoming vehicle, and Pilot Assist II can steer, keep the car between lane lines, and adjust speed to traffic at up to 80 mph.

Blind-spot detection and lane-keep assist are available, but they must be ordered as part of the Vision package. The system is strong overall, but it still depends on driver attention and can struggle with faded lane lines or cars that cut in abruptly.

Should I buy a 2018 Volvo XC60 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 37.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.15% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.89/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 XC60 is a thoroughly redesigned model with an all-new platform, a different look and feel, and an optional plug-in hybrid drivetrain.

The bottom line: If you want the more distinctive, fully redesigned XC60 with strong safety and technology, the 2018 is the right year to target. If you’re mainly focused on stretching your budget, you can use the softer pricing and decent inventory to shop selectively and prioritize the cleanest, best-maintained example you can find.
