Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Toyota Sienna 4.4 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2018 Toyota Sienna stands out as a minivan built around family practicality, with the kind of space and cargo-hauling usefulness that makes this body style so appealing in the first place. It is especially notable for buyers who want all-wheel drive, since the source specifically says it is not the best choice unless you require that capability. That makes the Sienna a distinctive option in a segment where convenience and versatility matter most.
In everyday use, the 2018 Toyota Sienna’s appeal comes from being an easy vehicle to live with for kids, grandkids, road trips, sporting gear, and home-improvement runs. The test-drive material also points to the minivan’s broad family-friendly role, while owner feedback reinforces its spaciousness, reliability, and all-wheel drive capability. At the same time, some drivers were disappointed by the lack of features such as navigation and hands-free technology, and a few felt the price was too high for what was offered.

With 31.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Toyota Sienna reliable?
Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner summary specifically points to reliability and a dependable, practical ownership experience, which lines up with the broader reputation described in the cost-effectiveness notes.
The expert material also describes the Sienna as having a deserved reputation for dependability, and it notes that Toyota includes free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years or 25,000 miles of ownership. That helps reduce early ownership costs and supports the case for a used example that has been maintained properly.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the basic concept and more about condition, maintenance history, and whether the vehicle has been used hard as a family hauler.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Toyota Sienna?
At 56.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the van has been used for heavy family duty or long commutes. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment you care about is actually present on the trim you’re considering.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SE trim adds a sportier look with a mesh grille, darkened headlights, rocker panel skirts, special taillights, unique instrumentation, black leather seats with white stitching, 19-inch wheels, and sport-tuned steering and suspension. Base-trim shoppers should pay close attention to feature gaps, especially if you want a more upscale cabin or a more distinctive appearance.
- Powertrain: The Sienna uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 296 horsepower and an 8-speed automatic. AWD is available only on LE, XLE, and Limited trims, so you should confirm whether all-wheel drive matters to you before narrowing your search.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are available on SE and standard on XLE and Limited.
- Infotainment: Even the base L trim gets a Scout connected navigation system and more USB ports, while all trims except the L have Safety Connect and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not offered, so that’s a key limitation to check against your expectations.
- Fuel efficiency: The test vehicle returned 18.9 mpg on the test loop, versus an EPA estimate of 22 mpg in combined driving.
Which 2018 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?
The 2018 Toyota Sienna is offered in 5 trim levels: L, LE, SE, XLE, Limited.
Here's the short version:
- L: This is the entry point, and it gets the upgraded infotainment setup with Scout connected navigation and more USB ports. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Sienna, but you should be sure the missing convenience and connectivity features won’t bother you.
- LE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more complete everyday setup while also being one of the trims eligible for AWD. If you want the most practical balance of price, capability, and family usefulness, this is the trim to focus on first.
- SE: This is the choice if you want the sportier appearance and firmer driving feel, plus the option for rear-seat entertainment and available blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. It suits you best if style and a more distinctive cabin matter as much as utility.
- XLE: This trim builds toward a more comfort-oriented family van and includes standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. It is a strong pick if you want more convenience without going all the way to the top trim.
- Limited: This is the most feature-rich version, with the premium audio and surround-view monitoring availability called out in the tech notes, plus standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Choose it if you want the most upscale Sienna experience and are willing to pay for it.
Toyota Safety Sense is standard across the lineup, while blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on XLE and Limited and available on SE.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Toyota Sienna?
This is a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and disciplined.
- Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,071 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.10% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 56.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $20,454.50, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Toyota Sienna's resale value?
The current average of $21,837 sits slightly below last year's $22,536.
That kind of price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you as a buyer now but may temper what you can expect later as a seller. If you buy well and keep the van in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to preserve value. A clean history and good maintenance will matter more than chasing the absolute cheapest example.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Toyota Sienna safe?
It does not earn a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS, and in federal testing it earns a four-star frontal-impact rating from NHTSA.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Safety Connect is also included on most versions, adding automatic collision notification, emergency assistance, and roadside assistance.
There are important caveats, though. The IIHS small-overlap driver-side frontal result is only Acceptable rather than Good, and the NHTSA side-impact rating is not provided in the source material. The expert notes also mention a false forward-collision warning event during testing, so you should pay attention to how the driver-assistance systems behave on a test drive.
Should I buy a 2018 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.10% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 model stands out for standard Toyota Safety Sense and available AWD, which make it especially appealing if those features matter to you.
The bottom line: If you want a practical, family-focused minivan with strong owner satisfaction and a softer price trend, the 2018 is a sensible target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can also compare it with nearby years to see whether a cleaner or better-equipped example gives you more value for the money.
