Why it stands out
The 2018 Nissan Kicks is a crossover aimed at shoppers who do not need off-road capability or sporty handling, and that focus makes it a practical choice for everyday use. It is described as more useful than the Juke because Nissan includes features that accommodate the daily commuter. At the same time, it is less athletic and does not offer an all-wheel drive option, so its appeal is rooted in utility rather than performance.
That straightforward mission is part of what makes the 2018 Nissan Kicks distinctive. It leans into the subcompact crossover formula instead of trying to stand out with boldness, and that makes it a sensible option for buyers who want a useful vehicle without unnecessary complexity. Owners also commonly praise its value, spaciousness, comfort, backup camera, keyless entry, and gas mileage, though some note that certain expected interior touches are missing.

I was looking for a vehicle with good gas mileage. The kicks gets great mileage. But I was super surprised the little car is very comfortable for me Im a heavy set guy with bad knees and I was shocked just how comfortable it really is plus all of the safety features are a major bonus I could not be happier with the car and it is quite peppy for a four cylinder vehicle

Great vehicle with a few recommendations. Trunk latch inside, armrest on passenger seat would complete this vehicle. Would expect the SV model to have these features over the S model.

Is the 2018 Nissan Kicks a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Nissan Kicks earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.
You’re looking at a crossover built for everyday use rather than sporty driving or off-road duty, and that matches the feedback from owners and testers. Drivers repeatedly praise its value, spaciousness, comfort, backup camera, keyless entry, and gas mileage. The overall takeaway is that it fits you best if you want a practical, budget-friendly commuter with useful space and simple features.
The market also shows 29.0% good or great deals, which is a healthy sign for shoppers who want room to negotiate.
Is the 2018 Nissan Kicks reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with repeated praise for value, comfort, and gas mileage. The expert evaluation also frames it as a sensible daily commuter, and the cost-effectiveness commentary reinforces that it is built around affordable ownership rather than complexity.
The main long-term risk for used buyers is that some examples may have been used hard as basic transportation, so condition and maintenance history matter more than the badge.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Nissan Kicks?
At 69.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing multiple listings at similar prices. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, tire wear, and whether the equipment you want is actually present on the trim you’re considering. Because this model is value-focused, a clean, well-kept example is usually the better buy than a cheaper one with questionable history.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base S comes with 16-inch steel wheels with covers, roof rails, a rear window wiper, automatic headlights, cloth seats, a 6-way manual driver’s seat, a 4-way manual front passenger seat, a 60/40 split-fold rear seat, Bluetooth connectivity, and a standard 7-inch touchscreen. The SV adds 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, push-button start, and a partially digital instrument panel, while the SR adds fog lights, LED low beams, a rear spoiler, a dark satin chrome grille accent, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a surround-view camera.
- Powertrain: It uses a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine with 125 horsepower and 115 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive only. It is described as decent for city driving but underwhelming on the highway.
- Safety package: Automatic emergency braking is standard on every trim. SV adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while SR adds a surround-view camera. The base trim misses those extra driver-assistance features.
- Infotainment: The standard system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Siri Eyes Free. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are added on SV and SR trims.
- Fuel efficiency: EPA estimates are 31 mpg city, 36 highway, and 33 combined.
Which 2018 Nissan Kicks trim should I buy?
The 2018 Nissan Kicks is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SV, SR.
Here's the short version:
- S: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the extra convenience and tech features. It gives you the core Kicks formula, including the standard safety equipment and the basic infotainment setup.
- SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds push-button start, a partially digital instrument panel, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert without jumping to the top price tier.
- SR: Choose this if you want the most content, including fog lights, LED low beams, a rear spoiler, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a surround-view camera.
Automatic emergency braking is standard across the lineup, while SV and SR add the extra driver-assistance features that many used buyers will want.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Nissan Kicks?
This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to shop carefully.
- Deal availability: 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 476 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.38% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 69.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,665, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Nissan Kicks's resale value?
The current average of $11,894 sits slightly below last year's $12,705.
That decline suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more cheaply now but may also limit near-term upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key is to buy a clean example at a sensible price so you have less depreciation left to absorb. Well-kept listings with strong equipment and clean history should hold up better than rougher examples.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Nissan Kicks safe?
The 2018 Nissan Kicks earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
It comes standard with front and side airbags, a reversing camera, Easy-Fill Tire Alert, and automatic emergency braking. SV adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while SR adds a surround-view camera. That means the base trim already covers an important safety foundation, but higher trims give you more confidence when changing lanes and parking.
Should I buy a 2018 Nissan Kicks or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 69.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.38% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 Kicks is a practical, commuter-focused crossover with standard automatic emergency braking and strong cost-effectiveness.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $12,032, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $11,894 average.
- It adds standard advanced safety features and keeps the same value-focused small-crossover mission.
The bottom line: If you want the better buy today, the 2018 makes sense because pricing has eased and the model delivers strong value for everyday use. If you’re willing to spend a bit more for a newer year with added standard safety content, the 2019 is the cleaner upgrade path.
