Is the 2018 Nissan Kicks a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Nissan Kicks earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Kicks is built around daily commuting and practical use, which supports the idea that it is a straightforward vehicle to live with over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about sophistication and more about whether the car was maintained well and used within its intended commuter role.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Nissan Kicks?

At 70.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the car’s equipment matches the trim level you expect. Because this model is positioned as a practical commuter, you want to make sure the basics are clean and complete rather than assuming a bargain listing is automatically a good one.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S comes with 16-inch steel wheels with covers, roof rails, a rear window wiper, automatic headlights, cloth seats, a 6-way manual driver’s seat, a 4-way manual front passenger seat, a 60/40 split-fold rear seat, Bluetooth connectivity, and a standard 7-inch touchscreen. The SV adds 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, push-button start, and a partially digital instrument panel, while the SR adds fog lights, LED low beams, a rear spoiler, a dark satin chrome grille accent, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a surround-view camera.
• Powertrain: It uses a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine with 125 horsepower and 115 pound-feet of torque, paired with a continuously variable transmission and front-wheel drive only. It is described as underpowered, but it can feel decent around town and returns strong fuel economy.
• Safety package: Automatic emergency braking is standard on every trim. The SV adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while the SR adds a surround-view camera. The base trim misses those extra driver-assistance features.
• Infotainment: The standard system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and Siri Eyes Free. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are added on the SV and SR, and the system does not include wireless smartphone integration or OTA capability in the provided information.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA estimates are 31 mpg city, 36 highway, and 33 combined, and the test vehicle returned 33.6 mpg in mixed driving.

Which 2018 Nissan Kicks trim should I buy?

The 2018 Nissan Kicks is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SV, and SR.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and the core Kicks experience. You still get automatic emergency braking, a reversing camera, cloth seats, Bluetooth, and the 7-inch touchscreen, but you give up the extra convenience and tech features found higher up. It suits you best if you want basic commuter transportation and do not need smartphone integration or extra driver aids.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds 17-inch alloy wheels, push-button start, a partially digital instrument panel, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If you want the most balanced mix of price, safety, and convenience, this is the trim to target.
• SR: This is the most feature-rich version, adding fog lights, LED low beams, a rear spoiler, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a surround-view camera. It makes sense if you want the most equipment and are willing to pay more for it.

The safety package is strongest on the SV and SR because those trims add blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Nissan Kicks?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find decent value.

• Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 451 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.67% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 70.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,551, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Nissan Kicks's resale value?

The current average of $11,551 sits slightly below last year's $11,992.

That decline suggests the Kicks has softened in the market, which can work against you if you are planning to sell soon. On the other hand, the lower current price may help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. If you keep the car in clean condition and avoid accident history, you are more likely to preserve value than a comparable listing with visible wear or a questionable record.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Nissan Kicks safe?

The Kicks comes standard with automatic emergency braking, and the safety content also notes front and side airbags, a reversing camera, and the Easy-Fill Tire Alert system.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The SV trim adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while the SR adds a surround-view camera. That means the base trim covers the essentials, but the higher trims give you more confidence when changing lanes and parking. The provided safety information does not include crash-test ratings, so the strongest takeaway here is the standard safety equipment and the added driver-assistance features on SV and SR.

Should I buy a 2018 Nissan Kicks or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.67% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 Kicks emphasizes daily commuting and practical usability over sporty handling or all-wheel-drive capability.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $12,037, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $11,551 average.
• It adds standard advanced safety features.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2018 is the stronger price play. If you are willing to spend a bit more for a newer model with added standard safety equipment, the 2019 is the better alternative. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2018 remains the more compelling shopping target.
