overall

Summary
With 297 currently listed for sale and an average price of $10,970, 29.3% of 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander 4.5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.67 / 10.
59.9% of 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander stands out by making up for several shortcomings with up-to-date tech and safety features that modern buyers want. It is not presented as a class leader, and it rides on an old platform that can be traced back to 2005, but it still tries to stay relevant by offering the latest driver-assistance and infotainment technology.
That focus on current features is the Outlander’s main appeal. Shoppers may be willing to overlook an uninspiring interior and middling ride quality if they can connect an iPhone through Apple CarPlay. For buyers who value technology more than polish, that tradeoff gives the 2018 Outlander a clear identity.

Reviewed a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander on Mar 16, 2021
I like this car, it is a smooth ride, it looks fabulous on the inside and out. I believe it was a good value, for the money and very good miles. I really feel like I got a brand new car. The only thing missing was a restart, but I will be adding that soon. This is my 2nd Mitsubishi Outlander compared to the 2011, I can say that there are lots of improvements on body style, engine and features.

Its appeal is straightforward: it leans on up-to-date driver-assistance and infotainment tech to offset an older platform, and it can make sense if you care more about smartphone integration and available safety features than cabin polish. The market also shows 30.4% of listings as good or great deals, which supports the value case.
Is the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Outlander’s reliability story is tied to its practical, value-focused design and its long powertrain warranty, which helps reduce ownership anxiety. The expert evaluation also points to a vehicle that prioritizes useful modern features over flash, which can be a plus if you want a straightforward SUV experience.
The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is that the vehicle’s age and basic driving dynamics may show up more clearly as mileage climbs, so condition and maintenance history matter.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander?
At 60.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible cosmetic wear. Focus on how well the cabin, electronics, and safety equipment work, since this model’s value proposition depends heavily on the features being fully functional.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base ES comes with 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels, a leather-wrapped shift knob, a 7-inch touch screen display, HD radio, Bluetooth connectivity, a USB port, remote keyless entry, and dual-zone climate control. Higher trims add features such as fog lights, a power sunroof, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, power-folding side-view mirrors, a power liftgate, leather seating, and LED lighting, so the lower trims are the ones most likely to feel sparse.
- Powertrain: Most trims use a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with 166 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, paired with a continuously variable transmission and front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. The GT uses a 3.0-liter V6 with 224 hp and 215 lb-ft, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and paddle shifters.
- Safety package: Standard safety features include a reversing camera, a full array of airbags, traction control, tire pressure monitoring system, hill-start assist, and active stability control. The available Touring package adds forward-collision mitigation, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams.
- Infotainment: The system includes a 7-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The content does not mention wireless smartphone integration or over-the-air updates.
- Fuel efficiency: The front-wheel-drive four-cylinder is rated at 25 mpg city, 30 highway, and 27 combined. The all-wheel-drive version is rated one mpg lower in each category, and the V6 GT is estimated at 20 mpg city, 27 highway, and 22 combined.
Which 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander trim should I buy?
The 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander is offered in 5 trim levels: ES, SE, LE, SEL, and GT.
Here's the short version:
- ES: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Outlander experience at the lowest price. You get the basics, but if you want the model’s strongest value story, you’ll likely want to move up for the added convenience and tech features.
- SE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds fog lights, heated front seats, a power sunroof, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, SiriusXM, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If you want the Outlander’s modern tech without stretching too far up the range, this is the trim to target.
- LE: This trim focuses more on appearance and added confidence features, with black exterior accents, power-folding mirrors, black roof rails, and blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert. It makes sense if you want a more distinctive look and extra driver-assistance coverage.
- SEL: This is the more upscale everyday choice, adding rain-sensing wipers, auto on-off headlights, chrome exterior accents, silver roof rails, blind-spot monitoring, lane-change assist, a power liftgate, leather seating, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. It suits you if you want a more complete family SUV without going all the way to the top trim.
- GT: This is the range-topper, and it brings the V6, paddle shifters, LED headlights, LED fog lights, and a power sunroof. Choose it if you want the strongest engine and the most premium-feeling equipment in the lineup.
The Touring package adds forward-collision mitigation, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander?

- Deal availability: 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 293 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.81% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 60.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,755, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander's resale value?
The current average of $10,925 sits slightly below last year's $11,724.
That decline suggests the Outlander is still moving down the depreciation curve, which can be good news if you’re buying now but less favorable if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that this model year is priced in a way that reflects its age and market position, so resale gains are unlikely to be dramatic.
Even so, the Outlander’s value-oriented positioning and broad feature set can help it stay relevant with budget-minded shoppers. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 60.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.81% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 model leans on current tech and safety features to offset its older platform, which makes it a smart pick if you value Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and available driver-assistance features.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of price, tech, and available safety features, the 2018 is the right place to start. If you’re especially price-sensitive, shop carefully for a well-kept example with a clean history and the features you want, because the best-value listings can move quickly.
