CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Mazda MAZDA6
overall

Summary
With 379 currently listed for sale and an average price of $16,572, 33.8% of 2018 Mazda MAZDA6s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
53.3% of 2018 MAZDA6 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 stands out as a more upscale take on the midsize sedan formula. Mazda gave it a slight redesign, a redesigned interior, a new top-tier Signature trim, and the addition of a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine from the CX-9, all of which were aimed at helping the car compete with more expensive alternatives. That combination gives the MAZDA6 a stronger premium feel than its price might suggest, especially for buyers who want a sedan that looks and feels more refined than the average family car.
What makes this model especially appealing is the way it tries to cover both ends of the market at once. The available turbocharged engine adds a more powerful character, while the upgraded cabin helps the car feel more luxurious. At the same time, the source material suggests Mazda is using this model to make up for not having a separate luxury brand, so the MAZDA6 has to do more than just provide basic transportation. For shoppers, that means the 2018 MAZDA6 is distinctive not because it is the biggest or flashiest sedan, but because it aims to deliver an upscale experience in a single, mainstream package.

Love the car!! Ive been a Mazda fan for years and they just continue to improve. I purchased the Signature, and its fantastic. Loaded with features, tons of power thanks to the turbo, and a very very quiet ride. With snow tires on it also does well in the snow.

Easily one of the top choices in its segment. It drives and has an interior from a car that costs twice as much. Its very good looking outside as well. Its efficient, spacious, and reliable. And NOTHING DRIVES LIKE THIS. it feels amazing to be behind the wheel of one of these. Excellent car all the way around.

In practical terms, that lines up well if you want a midsize sedan that feels more refined than the average family car while still staying in a mainstream price range.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mazda MAZDA6?
At 53.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or one with a prior accident record. Focus on body condition, tire condition, braking feel, and whether the car’s safety and driver-assistance features are functioning properly. If you are comparing multiple listings, the cleanest example is usually worth paying a little more for.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Sport trim includes standard LED headlights, push-button start, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and a rear-view camera, while the Touring adds 19-inch wheels, keyless entry, a sunroof, auto wipers and high beams, heated front seats with driver power, faux leather, rear USB charging ports, and rear vents. The Grand Touring adds an upgraded infotainment system, an 11-speaker stereo, navigation, satellite radio, and the turbocharged engine. The Grand Touring Reserve adds a heated steering wheel, memory settings, real leather, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, adaptive front lighting, and a head-up display. The Signature adds a digital cluster, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, Nappa leather, microfiber faux suede, and real wood trim.
- Powertrain: The base 2.5-liter inline-four makes 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque and is paired with a 6-speed manual on the Sport or an available 6-speed automatic. The turbocharged 2.5-liter engine makes 250 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque with the 6-speed automatic, and it delivers stronger acceleration while still returning 23 city, 31 highway, and 26 combined mpg.
- Safety package: The base Sport includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a rear-view camera, and the available safety package adds forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise, and lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist.
- Infotainment: The Mazda Connect system uses a rotary dial controller and an 8-inch touchscreen that does not respond to touch unless the vehicle is in park. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay were added for 2018 models through an update, and every Mazda ships with both starting in December.
- Fuel efficiency: The base engine returns 26 city mpg, 35 highway, and 29 combined mpg. The turbocharged engine returns 23 city, 31 highway, and 26 combined mpg.
Which 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 trim should I buy?
The 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 is offered in 5 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, Signature.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the least expensive way in, and it still gives you standard LED headlights, push-button start, an 8-inch touchscreen, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and a rear-view camera. It is the best-value choice if you want the core Mazda6 experience without stretching the budget.
- Touring: This trim adds the features many shoppers will want right away, including 19-inch wheels, keyless entry, a sunroof, heated front seats, faux leather, and rear-seat conveniences like USB charging ports and rear vents. It is the sweet spot if you want a more complete daily driver without jumping to the pricier trims.
- Grand Touring: This is the first trim with the turbocharged engine, plus an upgraded infotainment system, an 11-speaker stereo, navigation, and satellite radio. Choose it if you want the stronger performance and a more premium feel.
- Grand Touring Reserve: This trim layers on a heated steering wheel, memory settings, real leather, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, adaptive front lighting, and a head-up display. It makes sense if comfort and luxury features matter more than value.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mazda MAZDA6?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 386 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.62% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 53.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,794, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6's resale value?
The current average of $16,512 sits slightly below last year's $17,311.
That softer pricing suggests the model has become a bit more accessible for buyers, which can help you if you are shopping now. For a future seller, it means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim, especially because the market is already pricing in some depreciation. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold up better than rougher cars with accident history or visible wear.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 safe?
The Mazda6 earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA tests except rollover and front passenger side tests, which garnered four-star ratings.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety setup includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a rear-view camera. If you want the full suite, the available package adds forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise, and lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist. That makes the Mazda6 especially appealing if you want a sedan with strong standard safety content at the base trim.
One caveat is that braking performance is described as disappointing, so you should pay close attention to tire condition and brake feel during a test drive.
Should I buy a 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 53.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.62% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Mazda added a slight redesign, a redesigned interior, a new Signature trim, and the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine this year, which makes the 2018 feel like a more complete and upscale version of the Mazda6.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest blend of style, value, and available turbocharged performance, the 2018 is the year to target. If you are mainly price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully within this year’s market and focus on the cleanest, best-maintained example you can find.
