CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Mazda MAZDA6
overall

Summary
With 384 currently listed for sale and an average price of $16,777, 31.3% of 2018 Mazda MAZDA6s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
56.3% of 2018 MAZDA6 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 stands out as a more upscale take on the midsize sedan formula. Mazda gave it a slight redesign, a redesigned interior, a new top-tier Signature trim, and the addition of a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine from the CX-9, all of which were aimed at helping the car compete with more expensive alternatives. That combination gives the MAZDA6 a stronger premium feel than its price might suggest, especially for buyers who want a sedan that looks and feels more refined than the average family car.
What makes this model especially appealing is the way it tries to cover both ends of the market at once. The available turbocharged engine adds a more powerful character, while the upgraded cabin helps the car feel more luxurious. At the same time, the source material suggests Mazda is using this model to make up for not having a separate luxury brand, so the MAZDA6 has to do more than just provide basic transportation. For shoppers, that means the 2018 MAZDA6 is distinctive not because it is the biggest or flashiest sedan, but because it aims to deliver an upscale experience in a single, mainstream package.

Love the car!! Ive been a Mazda fan for years and they just continue to improve. I purchased the Signature, and its fantastic. Loaded with features, tons of power thanks to the turbo, and a very very quiet ride. With snow tires on it also does well in the snow.

Easily one of the top choices in its segment. It drives and has an interior from a car that costs twice as much. Its very good looking outside as well. Its efficient, spacious, and reliable. And NOTHING DRIVES LIKE THIS. it feels amazing to be behind the wheel of one of these. Excellent car all the way around.

Based on the overview, you’re looking at a sedan that aims to give you a more premium feel without pushing you into a luxury badge. That makes it especially appealing if you want style and comfort in a mainstream midsize car.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mazda MAZDA6?
At 54.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or shows uneven panel gaps, tire wear, or paint mismatch. Focus on overall condition, because the best examples will be the ones that still feel tight, clean, and well cared for.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base Sport trim includes standard LED headlights, push-button start, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and a rear-view camera, while the Touring adds 19-inch wheels, keyless entry, a sunroof, auto wipers and high beams, heated front seats with driver power, faux leather, rear USB charging ports, and rear vents. The Grand Touring Reserve adds a heated steering wheel, memory settings, real leather, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, adaptive LED headlights, and a head-up display, while the Signature adds a digital cluster, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, Nappa leather, microfiber faux suede, and real wood trim.
- Powertrain: The base 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder makes 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque, while the turbocharged 2.5-liter option raises output to 250 hp and 310 lb-ft. The base engine is rated at 26 city mpg and 35 highway mpg, while the turbo is rated at 23 city mpg, 31 highway mpg, and 26 combined mpg.
- Safety package: The standard setup includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a rear-view camera, and the available i-Activesense package adds forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise, and lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist. The base trim does not include the full suite unless you add that package.
- Infotainment: The car uses an 8-inch touchscreen with Mazda Connect and rotary-dial control, and smartphone integration arrives through Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Signature trim adds a digital dash, while the available head-up display includes traffic sign recognition and turn-by-turn guidance.
- Fuel efficiency: The base engine is rated at 26 city mpg and 35 highway mpg, and the turbocharged engine is rated at 23 city mpg, 31 highway mpg, and 26 combined mpg.
Which 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 trim should I buy?
The 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 is offered in 5 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, Signature.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and still want standard LED headlights, push-button start, an 8-inch touchscreen, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a rear-view camera. It’s the trim that gives you the strongest starting point for the money.
- Touring: This is the best-value upgrade if you want the car to feel more complete, because it adds 19-inch wheels, keyless entry, a sunroof, heated front seats, faux leather, rear USB charging ports, and rear vents. If you want a more upscale daily driver without jumping too far up the price ladder, this is the trim to target.
- Grand Touring: Choose this if you want the turbocharged engine, upgraded infotainment, an 11-speaker stereo, navigation, and satellite radio. It’s the trim that most clearly shifts the Mazda6 toward stronger performance and a richer feature set.
- Grand Touring Reserve: This is the comfort-focused step up, adding a heated steering wheel, memory settings, real leather, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, adaptive LED headlights, and a head-up display. It suits you if you want a more premium cabin experience.
- Signature: This is the top luxury-oriented trim, with a digital cluster, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, Nappa leather, microfiber faux suede, and real wood trim. It’s the one to buy if you want the most upscale presentation and the fullest feature set.
The safety package is especially compelling because the base trim already includes key driver-assistance features, and the available add-on brings in the rest of the suite without forcing you into a higher trim.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mazda MAZDA6?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 398 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.73% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 54.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,791.48, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6's resale value?
The current average of $16,771 sits slightly below last year's $17,243.
That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also mean slower appreciation if you plan to sell soon. If you’re thinking about resale, the best move is to buy a clean, well-kept example so you’re starting from the strongest possible position.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 safe?
The government’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has awarded the Mazda6 a five-star rating in all tests excepting rollover and front passenger side tests, which garnered four stars.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety setup includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a rear-view camera, and the available i-Activesense package adds forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise, and lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist. If you want the fullest safety coverage, look for a car equipped with that package.
One caveat is braking performance, which the expert review calls disappointing relative to some rivals. If safety is a top priority, that’s worth factoring into your test drive and inspection.
Should I buy a 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 54.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.73% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Mazda added a slight redesign, a new Signature trim, and the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine this year, which broadens the car’s appeal and makes the lineup feel more upscale.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of style, value, and premium feel, the 2018 is the year to focus on. If you’re especially price-sensitive, keep shopping the cleanest lower-priced examples and prioritize condition over trim level, because the best deals will usually be the ones that still have a solid history and strong maintenance records.
