CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Mazda MAZDA3

Summary
With 610 currently listed for sale and an average price of $14,859, 27.2% of 2018 Mazda MAZDA3s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Mazda MAZDA3 4.71 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2018 Mazda MAZDA3 stands out because it blends style, driver appeal, and value in a way that many compact cars do not. Mazda’s formula for the model has long emphasized a more engaging driving experience and a more dramatic look, and that character is a big part of the car’s appeal. For buyers who want a compact car that feels a little more special than the average commuter, the Mazda3’s combination of sporty design and enjoyable road manners is a major draw.
For this model year, the Mazda3 also benefits from a well-equipped lineup and a premium-leaning feel. The broader Mazda3 family is described as offering features such as alloy wheels, cruise control, LED headlights, and advanced i-Activsense safety features, while higher-spec versions add conveniences like blind-spot monitoring, dual-zone climate control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Bose premium audio system, electric driver’s seat adjustment, and front and rear parking sensors. The model’s reputation for holding up well is another plus, with the post-2019 car noted as proving durable so far and the Mazda3 ranking second only to the Honda Civic in the compact category of the 2024 Consumer Reports Annual Auto Survey reliability survey of three-year-old cars and SUVs.
There are still tradeoffs to keep in mind. The Mazda3 has had some reliability concerns in earlier generations, and owners have reported a few issues with the air-conditioning. Some rivals are quieter and more practical, and the car’s rear visibility and practicality can suffer a bit in hatchback form because of its tapered roof and window line. Even so, the Mazda3 remains appealing because it offers style, equipment, and driving enjoyment in a package that still makes sense on price.

The features are very nice..for the trim level it would of been great with cooling seats and heated steering wheel..I would compare it to nicely equipped corolla, civic. The sport suspension is very stiff so if you want a car that rides smooth I wouldn't get a Mazda 3..may consider the Mazda 6

Fabulous car . . . lots of features make it a value for money pick. And not just features: its style and stance on the road is impressive - handles well and is a solid all around vehicle. Beyond that, it is SAFE. This 2018 Mazda 3 is a replacement for my PREVIOUS 2018 Mazda 3, which was totaled shortly after purchase when a guy ran a red light and plowed into me. Car was destroyed . . . I literally walked away unscathed. The car protected me from serious injury (or worse). It was only natural to try to replace our 2018 Mazda 3 with ANOTHER 2018 Mazda 3, and we were fortunate enough to be able to do that. Cannot say enough good things about this amazing vehicle.

I love this Mazda! Im giving it a 4, though, as the USBs are underpowered so they barely charge the phone, which is true of all these year Mazdas, nor does it have GPS navigation. There is an upgrade package which bumps up the USB power and adds support for Android Auto and Apple Car fur around $500. Id give this car a 5 if they had that as standard.

How much does the 2018 Mazda MAZDA3 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $14,860 |
| Year-Round Low | $13,855 |
| Year-Round High | $14,911 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $14,784 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +0.52% |
Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.
There are 613 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2018 Mazda MAZDA3 a good car?
Yes — the 4.71/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its sporty feel, fuel efficiency, and reliable performance, while also noting the handling and features you get for the price. If you want a compact car that feels more engaging and a little more upscale than a basic commuter, this model year fits that use case well. The market also looks reasonably active, with 27.2% of listings marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2018 Mazda MAZDA3 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.71/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback highlights reliable performance, and owners also describe the car as dependable and trouble-free in everyday use. That said, you should still expect some variation from one used example to another, especially if maintenance history is incomplete. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is ending up with a car that has been neglected rather than one that is inherently a poor bet.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mazda MAZDA3?
At 58.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection on any car that looks especially appealing on price. Focus on condition, repair quality, and signs of inconsistent maintenance rather than relying on photos alone. If a listing has accident history, make sure the damage and repairs are fully documented and that the car still drives and presents cleanly.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mazda MAZDA3?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 27.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 613 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 58.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $13,855, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Mazda MAZDA3's resale value?
The current average of $14,860 sits slightly above last year's $14,784.
That kind of stability suggests the market has been willing to support this model year without major price swings. For you as a future seller, that can be a positive sign because steady pricing often points to consistent demand rather than a rapidly softening market. The model’s strong owner satisfaction should also help keep it appealing to used shoppers over time.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.71/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Mazda MAZDA3 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 27.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 58.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.71/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $13,442, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $14,860 average.
- It adds a meaningful update and new G-Vectoring Control.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $16,688, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $14,860 average.
- It feels more upscale and refined with standard advanced safety features.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price stability, owner satisfaction, and available inventory, the 2018 is the primary year to target. If your budget is tighter, the 2017 is the better value play, while the 2019 makes sense if you want the newer, more premium-feeling version and are willing to pay more.
