The Mazda3 has always stood out among compact vehicles. While competitors were focused on efficiency and maximum space, Mazda’s little compact was more about driving dynamics and good style. That didn’t change when the third-generation Mazda3 debuted in 2014, nor when it received a subtle refresh in 2017. For 2018, it gets minimal changes.
Mazda continues to offer the Mazda3 in both sedan and hatchback configuration. As compact cars go, it’s handsome and clean. The lines and proportions almost fool one into thinking it’s a much more pedigreed car than it is. And it helps that Mazda offers it in eye-catching colors like Soul Red Metallic and Eternal Blue Mica. Inside, the theme carries over from the front, with a tasteful blend of modern shapes and function and a high regard toward ergonomics.
The Mazda3 gets its power from one of two engines, a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine with 155 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque, and an uprated 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder that bumps things up to a nearly-square 184 hp and 185 lb-ft. Both engines are exclusively available in front-wheel-drive configuration, but allow buyers to select either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. Fuel economy for the 2.0-liter is rated at 28 mpg city and 37 highway, versus 27 and 36 for the bigger 2.5-liter. In all configurations, reviewers say the Mazda3 provides plenty of driving excitement, handling at the top of its class and relaying all the right tactile information. The favored choice for this is, of course, the 2.5-liter and 6-speed manual transmission combination.
All three former trims, Sport, Touring and Grand Touring, return for both body styles. Sport, the entry-level trim comes well-equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels, power-folding side mirrors, a 7-inch touch-screen display, and keyless start. Touring ups the game with 18-inch wheels, automatic headlamps, dual-zone climate control, a powered driver’s seat, leatherette upholstery and rain-sensing wipers. A rear spoiler is new for 2018. Finally, Grand Touring models get leather upholstery, Bose audio system, a color instrument panel LCD, and a power sunroof. For 2018, there are also full-LED headlights, taillights, and fog lights.
Every Mazda3 comes with a standard reversing camera and six airbags: driver and passenger frontal and side units, and side curtain units for both rows. For 2018, Mazda has chosen to make its i-Activsense safety suite part of the Premium Equipment Package for Grand Touring models, bringing with it adaptive front lighting, automatic high beams, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and traffic sign recognition. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) tested the Mazda3 in 2017, where it earned top ratings in all crash categories and crash-avoidance tests, and the agency’s coveted Top Safety Pick + award.
The Mazda3 continues the brand’s tradition of bring truly sporting capabilities to ordinary segments, along with good looks and sophisticated technology. Even into its fifth year on the market, the model remains competitive when many of its competitors are newer to the market. For the buyer looking to graduate from a Miata or some other purpose-built sports car without losing all of the fun, look no further than the well-rounded Mazda3.

This is a great car Tronics work really awesome great tread, great tires great engine and exhaust really nice leather interior. The only thing I would say is the exteriors since it spread. It’s really hard to maintain a lot of dings and scrapes and scratches but nothing a good layer of another paint job wouldn’t fix the battery also is another thing, it doesn’t lock and when it doesn’t lock or turn off, the battery stays on the indicating that it’s open, that’s about it. Fun to drive, tight steering, and comfy interior for front seats. Backseats are VERY compact and uncomfortable. 6 speed manual drove exactly as it should have, though a little tricky to properly meet rpm’s from 1st to 2nd gear. Gets up to speed very quickly after that. Vehicle feels like it wants to go quick. 65 mph felt like 45. Big fan of the heads up display and knob-controlled entertainment system. I love this Mazda! Im giving it a 4, though, as the USBs are underpowered so they barely charge the phone, which is true of all these year Mazdas, nor does it have GPS navigation. There is an upgrade package which bumps up the USB power and adds support for Android Auto and Apple Car fur around $500. Id give this car a 5 if they had that as standard.Jun 12, 2022

Ive never driven a car this new, or one with this much power (lol 180hp) so take this with a grain of salt.
The thing that really stuck out to me was anytime I tried to take off in first the traction control would basically make the car limp. Once in second it was pretty quick.
Im coming from a 08 fit and 2011 rogue.
Faster than both, but the windows all around seemed smaller, less viability.
Despite the 1st gear issue the car honestly didnt produce a smile with the acceleration, bummed about that.
The manual was very tight, the clutch was very light (not much pressure needed to press it) my old and injured knee had no issues.

Fabulous car . . . lots of features make it a value for money pick. And not just features: its style and stance on the road is impressive - handles well and is a solid all around vehicle.
Beyond that, it is SAFE. This 2018 Mazda 3 is a replacement for my PREVIOUS 2018 Mazda 3, which was totaled shortly after purchase when a guy ran a red light and plowed into me. Car was destroyed . . . I literally walked away unscathed.
The car protected me from serious injury (or worse). It was only natural to try to replace our 2018 Mazda 3 with ANOTHER 2018 Mazda 3, and we were fortunate enough to be able to do that. Cannot say enough good things about this amazing vehicle.Sep 07, 2021

I like the sporty feel to the Mazda 3. Tech features are very good on the touring and grand touring comes with some additional upgrades and comes with a moonroof. Mazda still makes their cars with a traditional automatic transmission no CVT.Mar 21, 2021

I love the Mazda 3, I have only had it 3 days but my gas mileage is in the high 30s. Ii is very zippy the and easy to maneuver through tight traffic. The Navigation system has taken me a little time to get used to. Overall, a very solid little car. It is rated 5 stars for crash rating as well. Jun 29, 2020

Mazda 3 1.5 AT 2018 Short whistle sound during transmission switch from 2nd to 3d
Hello all. I have a problem with my new Mazda 3 1.5 AT 2018, I hear whistle (sounds like a turbo blow-off valve) during transmission switch from 2nd to 3d, every day and after every traffic light. But when I just bought it (about 1 year ago) all was fine (no any strange sounds) and it appeared after 1-2 months. My dealer is not located in my town, so I can't be very often there. Previously I was there half year ago (on service maintenance #0), I told to master abut the appeared problem, he confirmed that strange sound appears. Then after a few weeks, he told me that they are can't find any TSBs about this problem, and maybe it is normal. Then I've talked with dealer warranty specialist, and we have agreed that next time(at the end of September) they will take some data from the car and send it to the Mazda Corp if needed( I was angry by the fact that the master did not do this during previous service maintenance #0). So now I'm waiting, and trying to collect available information about this issue. Also I know one guy with the same mazda and same problem) and I as understand this is very common issue for 1.5 + AT, many people just close their eyes on this problem. But for me this is very disappointing issue, because I bought new car , and I don't think this is normal. sound it's very audible(me and my wife hear it), so I don't think it is normal. I think that Mazda engineers should investigate issue and create corresponding TSBs to solve it, or replace defected detail/car. Also I tried to create a video with this sound. Engine stalling cause?
My 2018 Mazda3 has only 18,000 miles. Today I was waiting in a line of cars for 30 minutes, suddenly I tried to press the gas & the car wouldn’t move. My car was on but it was stalling. The battery symbol was flashing red on the dash. The gears could move, but only park worked. We had to push the car into an empty spot. After being off for an hour to cool down, it started up normally and drove. I’m worried it might happen again. What would cause my engine to stall since my car is so young?

High Idling on a new car
I have a brand new 2018 Mazda, never owned, never driven... So, why does it idle high when I turn it on? It goes straight to 3 and it sounds pretty loud... Like a rattling sound. It goes down within seconds though. The longest its lasted was maybe 30seconds. Is this normal? Does it need oil or something? I'm a female and this is my first brand new car.
