Is the 2018 Lexus RX a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Lexus RX earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 6.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the smooth and comfortable ride, spacious interior, and luxurious features. Reliability and low maintenance costs also come up often, while some reviewers note that the technology feels outdated.

That mix makes the RX especially appealing if you want a premium crossover that prioritizes comfort and everyday ease over a cutting-edge cabin. The market also shows 37.5% good and great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 Lexus RX reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners also describe it as reliable with low maintenance costs, and they frequently connect the RX with dependable, trouble-free ownership. The expert evaluation reinforces that impression by emphasizing the model’s smooth, responsive engine and transmission that handles its responsibilities without issues.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical drama and more about choosing a well-kept example, since condition and maintenance history will matter most over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Lexus RX?

At 58.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage or lower-priced example. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the cabin and electronics have aged as expected. Because this model’s appeal leans heavily on comfort and luxury, you’ll want to make sure the example you choose still feels well cared for.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Base trim includes LED headlights and fog lights, leather upholstery, tri-zone climate control, an 8-inch display, and a safety suite, but it does not include Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. Higher packages add features like roof rails, a sunroof, auto-dimming mirrors, driver memory, wood trim, and upgraded audio.
• Powertrain: You get a 3.5-liter V6 with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The standard setup is smooth and responsive, while the hybrid option adds electric motors for stronger efficiency and all-wheel-drive capability.
• Safety package: Lexus Safety System+ is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning and intervention, and forward-collision warning and intervention with auto braking. Blind-spot monitoring is not standard.
• Infotainment: The cabin uses an 8-inch display and the Remote Touch interface. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are not available, and built-in navigation requires an added package.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard RX 350L is rated at 19 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. The hybrid option is rated at 31 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined.

Which 2018 Lexus RX trim should I buy?

The 2018 Lexus RX is offered in 1 trim level: RX 350L.

Here's the short version:

The RX 350L is the trim to focus on if you want the core three-row RX experience with the standard luxury and safety equipment already included. It brings leather upholstery, tri-zone climate control, an 8-inch display, and Lexus Safety System+ without forcing you into packages right away. If you want more comfort and convenience, the available packages add useful upgrades, but the base setup already covers the essentials.

The standard safety package is a strong starting point, but blind-spot monitoring is not standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Lexus RX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 37.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,469 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.02% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $25,580, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Lexus RX's resale value?

The current average of $25,897 sits slightly below last year's $26,982.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer now, but it also suggests future sellers may not see rapid appreciation from this model year. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to preserve value later. The RX’s broad appeal and reputation for satisfaction should still help support demand in the used market.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Lexus RX safe?

The 2018 Lexus RX earns a Top Safety Pick+ title from IIHS and a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in all tests other than side crash categories where it scored five-star ratings across the board.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Lexus Safety System+ is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning and intervention, and forward-collision warning and intervention with auto braking. One important caveat is that blind-spot monitoring is not standard, so you may want to prioritize a listing that includes it or budget for a trim/package that adds it.

Should I buy a 2018 Lexus RX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 37.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.02% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The year’s standout change is the added three-row layout, which expands passenger capacity but compromises third-row comfort.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $23,441, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $25,897 average.
• It adds meaningful equipment while keeping the RX’s comfort-focused character.

The bottom line: If you want the three-row RX and can live with its packaging compromises, the 2018 is the better fit. If your priority is saving money and you don’t need the extra row, the 2017 is the smarter value play.
