Is the 2018 Lexus LS a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Lexus LS earns a 4.8/5 from owners and an 8/10 from our experts. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

Drivers consistently praise its luxurious feel, smooth ride, strong acceleration, and comfortable interior. The styling also stands out, and the overall package is described as a strong value thanks to its blend of power, luxury, and reliability.

The trade-offs are that the design can be polarizing and the technology can be unintuitive. Even so, the LS fits you well if you want a full-size luxury sedan that emphasizes refinement, comfort, and a distinctive presence rather than a conservative look.

Only 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the best examples may still require some shopping discipline.

The expert notes also emphasize Lexus’s reliability-first reputation and customer-service focus, which reinforces the sense that this is a sedan built to be counted on over time.

The ownership risk for used buyers is less about the core mechanical package and more about finding a well-kept example with the right maintenance history and condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Lexus LS?

At 59.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, interior condition, and any signs of prior repair quality. Because the technology is described as unintuitive, it also makes sense to test the infotainment and driver-assistance features yourself before you buy.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The F Sport trim adds gray 20-inch wheels, a blacked-out grille, reshaped air intakes, red and black leather, microsuede, and bright aluminum trim, while the regular LS 500 can be specified with more exotic interior materials and finishes. The F Sport is the more driver-focused choice, while the regular LS 500 suits you better if you want the most lavish cabin presentation.
• Powertrain: The LS 500 uses a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 with 416 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and it is offered with rear- or all-wheel drive. The hybrid LS 500h adds two electric motors and a lithium-ion battery for 354 combined horsepower.
• Safety package: Lexus Safety System+ comes standard with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, auto high beams, and blind-spot monitoring. Lexus Safety System+ A adds active steering for semi-autonomous control on marked highways, front cross-traffic alert, and road-sign detection.
• Infotainment: The LS includes an onboard owner’s manual with videos, 360-degree cameras that can automatically pan around the vehicle, custom route programming, and an optional 24-inch head-up display. The available 23-speaker Mark Levinson stereo is also a major feature to check.
• Fuel efficiency: Rear-wheel-drive models are rated at 19 mpg city and 30 mpg highway, while all-wheel drive drops to 18 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. The hybrid improves efficiency to 25 mpg city and 33 mpg highway in rear-wheel-drive form, or 23 mpg city and 31 mpg highway with all-wheel drive.

Which 2018 Lexus LS trim should I buy?

The 2018 Lexus LS is offered in 2 trim levels: LS 500 and LS 500 F Sport.

• LS 500: This is the trim to target if you want the broadest luxury experience and the strongest value. It gives you the core LS formula with the twin-turbo V6, 10-speed automatic, and the option to add more exotic interior materials and finishes.
• LS 500 F Sport: This is the better pick if you want the most engaging version of the LS. It adds the sportier exterior treatment and, with the optional F Sport Performance Package, rear-axle steering, active stabilizer bars, staggered summer tires, and variable-ratio steering.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Lexus LS?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully but still enough variation that the best listings can move quickly.

• Deal availability: 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 226 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.26% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $37,411, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Lexus LS's resale value?

The current average of $37,441 sits slightly below last year's $39,107.

That tells you the market has softened, which can help you buy more affordably now but may also mean a future resale window is more price-sensitive. If you plan to sell later, the current trend suggests you should focus on buying a clean, well-optioned example so you have the best chance of holding value.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Lexus LS safe?

The 2018 Lexus LS earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Lexus Safety System+ comes standard with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, auto high beams, and blind-spot monitoring. Lexus Safety System+ A adds active steering for semi-autonomous control on marked highways, front cross-traffic alert, and road-sign detection.

Rear-side thorax airbags are also standard, and Lexus includes telematics services such as stolen-vehicle alerts, automatic 911 dialing after a crash, and roadside assistance for 10 years. The main caveat is that the model has not been tested by IIHS or NHTSA, so you are relying on the standard safety equipment and expert evaluation rather than published crash-test results.

Should I buy a 2018 Lexus LS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.26% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert notes highlight a quiet cabin, premium materials, and strong handling, which make this year especially appealing if you want a dramatic, polished luxury sedan.

The bottom line: The 2018 is a smart choice if you want the LS’s distinctive styling, strong performance, and high-end comfort at a used-car price that has already softened. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can shop aggressively for the cleanest, best-equipped example rather than stretching for a newer model year.
