overall

Summary
With 7,727 currently listed for sale and an average price of $21,491, 32.1% of 2018 Jeep Wranglers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Jeep Wrangler 4.54 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
72.6% of 2018 Wrangler models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Jeep Wrangler stands out because it was thoroughly rebooted while still feeling unmistakably like a Wrangler. The review describes it as a sun-loving, rock-hopping, mud-caked happy face on four wheels, and says that after 10 years it was finally all-new for 2018. It also notes that the Wrangler has a fanatical and fiercely loyal following, which speaks to how strongly its character resonates with buyers.
For shoppers, the appeal is in the mix of improved performance, practicality, and technology, even though the Wrangler’s basic formula remains familiar. The Unlimited version is described as a solid-axle, body-on-frame four-door with no direct competitors aside from the Toyota 4Runner. That said, the same source makes clear that this is still a vehicle with a very specific personality, so buyers drawn to comfort and refinement may find its ruggedness part of the charm or part of the compromise.

The Jeep is great as they always are but I notice that since FMC and Stellantis took over, the build quality has gone down and the maintenance and repair cost rose. This is not my first jeep and that's where I get my opinions

How much does the 2018 Jeep Wrangler cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $21,473 |
| Year-Round Low | $21,473 |
| Year-Round High | $23,828 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $23,824 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.87% |
Prices have softened 9.87% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 7,729 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2018 Jeep Wrangler a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Jeep Wrangler earns a 4.54/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Cost effectiveness.
Owners consistently praise its pep, handling, and iconic design, and many also like the drivability improvements and features such as remote start. The Wrangler’s appeal is especially strong if you want a vehicle with a distinctive personality and a loyal following, plus the kind of rugged capability that makes it feel at home on trails and in open-air driving. Even so, the market still shows 32.5% good or great deals, so you can shop with some leverage.
Is the 2018 Jeep Wrangler reliable?
Owners rate it 4.54/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with praise for its pep, handling, and overall drivability. The expert review also emphasizes that the Wrangler’s performance is improved and that it remains capable and composed for its intended purpose, which supports confidence in how it holds up as a used buy. If you’re shopping used, the bigger ownership risk is less about the drivetrain and more about finding a well-kept example that hasn’t been abused or neglected.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Jeep Wrangler?
At 73% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the Wrangler has been used off-road or modified. Pay close attention to body condition, interior wear, and signs of poor repairs, since rugged use can hide issues that aren’t obvious in photos. It’s also smart to focus on how complete and functional the equipment is, because some shoppers want a more basic Wrangler while others expect more comfort and tech.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Sport is the most basic setup, while the Sahara adds street-tuned touches like step rails, silver-painted exterior accents, and 18-inch wheels; the Rubicon rides on knobbier tires with 17-inch rims and is the most trail-focused choice.
- Powertrain: The standard 3.6-liter V6 makes 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, and a new eight-speed automatic helps it feel easier on the road. A turbocharged 2.0-liter four with eTorque is also mentioned, with 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.
- Safety package: No driver assists are available except a backup camera, rear parking sensors, and blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alerts.
- Infotainment: The Sport uses a five-inch touchscreen, while the Sport S and Sahara upgrade to a seven-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM. An available 8.4-inch system adds navigation with live traffic, a seven-inch gauge display, 4G WiFi, voice controls, and seven USB ports.
- Fuel efficiency: The turbocharged 2.0-liter four is rated at 22 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. Manual-equipped V6 models are rated at 17 mpg city and 23 mpg highway, and the V6 automatic gains 1 mpg in city driving.
Which 2018 Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?
The 2018 Jeep Wrangler is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Sport S, Sahara, Rubicon.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the entry point if you want the Wrangler experience at the lowest starting price, but it comes with the most basic tech, including the five-inch touchscreen.
- Sport S: This is the best-value trim if you want a more usable daily driver, since it adds the seven-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM.
- Sahara: This is the right pick if you want a more polished street setup, with step rails, silver exterior accents, and the more upscale feel described in the review.
- Rubicon: This is the trim to choose if off-road capability matters most, since it uses the beefier Rock-Trac setup with locking front and rear Dana 44 axles and an electronically disconnecting front sway bar.
No matter which trim you choose, the safety content makes clear that the Wrangler remains a compromised vehicle structurally, so condition and history matter more than usual.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Jeep Wrangler?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and enough price softness to make comparison shopping worthwhile.
- Deal availability: 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 7,729 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.87% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 73.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,473, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Jeep Wrangler's resale value?
The current average of $21,473 sits slightly below last year's $23,824.
That decline suggests the market has cooled enough to give you a better entry point than a year ago. For a future seller, the good news is that the Wrangler still benefits from strong demand and a loyal audience, which helps support pricing even when the broader market softens. Because the model is known for holding value well, a clean, well-equipped example should remain easier to resell than many mainstream SUVs.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.54/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Jeep Wrangler safe?
The Wrangler scored just three stars and two stars for driver and passenger in the partial frontal crash test cited by NHTSA, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rated a Wrangler Unlimited as Marginal in side-impact testing and Good in small and moderate overlap front tests.
It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.
The safety equipment is limited: the review says no driver assists are available except a backup camera, rear parking sensors, and blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alerts. It also notes that the Wrangler is the only new car on sale without head curtain airbags, which is a major caveat for used buyers. If safety is a top priority, you should weigh that carefully against the Wrangler’s strengths elsewhere.
Should I buy a 2018 Jeep Wrangler or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 73% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.87% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.54/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 model is notable for being thoroughly rebooted while still feeling unmistakably like a Wrangler, with improved performance, practicality, and technology.
The bottom line: If you want the first year of the rebooted Wrangler and you value its improved performance and tech, the 2018 is the one to target. If you’re more price-sensitive, you can also compare nearby years, but the 2018’s combination of updated hardware and strong owner satisfaction makes it a compelling used choice as long as you verify history and condition carefully.
