CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Honda Civic

Summary
With 2,648 currently listed for sale and an average price of $16,218, 27.8% of 2018 Honda Civics for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Honda Civic 4.71 / 5 stars.
47.4% of 2018 Civic models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Honda Civic stands out because it sits in the 10th generation, a version widely praised for its handling, features, and practicality. It was a major step up in size, with almost as much interior room as an early 2000s Accord, and it offered active-safety features that were rare on small, affordable cars in the late 2010s. For shoppers, that combination of space, efficiency, and everyday usability is a big part of the appeal, and the car’s strong reputation for being fun to drive helps it feel more engaging than many compact rivals.
The hatchback version adds extra utility, with a liftback design and flat-folding rear seats. In 2018, the hatchback was available with two turbocharged powertrains, including a 174-horsepower 1.5-liter turbo in LX, EX, and EX-L trims and a 180-horsepower version in Sport and Sport Touring. Standard equipment on the base LX included automatic climate control, a rear-view camera, a folding rear seat, a four-speaker audio system with a USB port, and a 5-inch infotainment screen, while available features included Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, blind-spot monitors, heated front and rear seats, and a moonroof. Honda Sensing was optional at launch, so buyers should verify whether a given car has it fitted.
There are a few drawbacks to keep in mind. The 2018 Civic hatchback is affected by oil dilution in the turbocharged engines, and the generation also has complaints about air conditioning failures, infotainment glitches, and sticky electric power steering. Consumer Reports rates reliability below average for hatchbacks built before 2020, so condition and maintenance history matter. Even so, the 2018 Honda Civic remains appealing because it blends strong fuel economy, good driving dynamics, and a well-rounded feature set in a package that still feels practical and desirable.

This car is a great value with the rising gas prices and economical 2.0 four cylinder engine I will be saving money at the pump. The safety features alone are something that is needed in this age of self driving cars and people not paying attention on the roads. Have only had this ex version for a few days now but already love it.

How much does the 2018 Honda Civic cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $16,194 |
| Year-Round Low | $15,651.17 |
| Year-Round High | $16,818.89 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $16,820 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −3.72% |
Prices have softened 3.72% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,659 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.
If you find a listing below $15,651.17, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2018 Honda Civic a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Honda Civic earns a 4.71/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its great value, reliability, and impressive fuel economy, and they also highlight its safety features and technology. That makes it a strong fit if you want a compact car that feels stylish and sporty while still working well as everyday transportation. With 27.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example.
Is the 2018 Honda Civic reliable?
Owners rate it 4.71/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback emphasizes reliability, and it also points to a car that many drivers feel they can count on over time. That said, used buyers should still pay close attention to maintenance history and condition, since long-term ownership risk depends heavily on how each example was cared for.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Honda Civic?
At 47.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on body panels, paint consistency, and signs of uneven wear or poor repairs. It also makes sense to focus on the condition of the interior and technology features, since owner feedback mentions comfort and feature-content concerns.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Honda Civic?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,659 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.72% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 47.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,651.17, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Honda Civic's resale value?
The current average of $16,194 sits slightly below last year's $16,820.
That softer pricing suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more selectively now. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend more on condition, mileage, and documentation than on model-year timing alone. Well-kept examples should still attract interest because the Civic nameplate continues to draw shoppers looking for value and efficiency.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.71/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Honda Civic or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 47.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.72% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.71/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $17,336, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $16,194 average.
- It keeps the Civic formula focused on refinement, variety, and a more expensive-feeling drive.
The bottom line: The 2018 is the better primary pick if you want a lower average price and strong owner satisfaction. If you can stretch your budget and want the newer year’s slightly more refined feel, the 2019 is the cleaner secondary path.
