overall

Summary
With 360 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,034, 14.2% of 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 4.44 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
72.2% of 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 stands out as a full-size pickup that was kept relevant with more standard content and safety features even as a redesign was just around the corner. GMC also made the reversing camera and the previously optional infotainment system standard equipment, which gives this truck a stronger value story than a bare-bones work vehicle.
That added equipment helps the Sierra 1500 appeal to buyers who want a truck that feels more like a family vehicle than a purely utilitarian tool. The available luxury-truck character is part of its identity, and owner feedback reinforces that appeal by praising its smooth ride, luxurious feel, excellent features, comfortable interior, power, and fuel efficiency. At the same time, some owners pointed to missing features such as backseat vents and basic safety options, along with concerns about engine performance and transmission issues, so the 2018 Sierra 1500 is best understood as a well-equipped truck with a few notable compromises.

2018 GMC Sierra. Simply the best driving & riding truck I have ever owned. The magnetic ride sets it apart and was the reason I purchased a 2018 vs the newer body style without it. It’s also the reason I choose it over similar Ford and Dodge trucks.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 GMC Sierra 1500?
At 68.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has higher mileage or a long option list. Pay close attention to signs of prior body damage, drivetrain behavior, and whether the cabin and electronics still feel as well-kept as the listing photos suggest.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Base truck comes standard with Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, a 6-speaker stereo, power locks, a power tailgate, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a 7-inch touchscreen. The SLE adds satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and an 8-inch IntelliLink screen, while the SLT brings leather seating, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and the 5.3-liter V8. The Denali adds heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, navigation, wireless charging, and unique Denali headrest embroidery.
- Powertrain: Four engines are available: a 4.3-liter V6 with 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque, a 5.3-liter V8 with 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet, a 5.3-liter V8 eAssist version with the same output and better fuel economy, and a 6.2-liter V8 with 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet. The V6 and 5.3-liter V8 use a 6-speed automatic, while the 6.2-liter V8 gets an 8-speed automatic standard.
- Safety package: The standard safety equipment includes a reversing camera with dynamic guidelines, six airbags, StabiliTrak stability control, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, and Easy Fill Alert for the tire pressure monitoring system. The Enhanced Driver Alert Package adds forward-collision alert, automatic high-beam control, lane-departure warning, and front and rear parking sensors, with the Safety Alert seat included as part of that package. It is available on the SLE and SLT and standard on the Denali.
- Infotainment: The base truck gets a 7-inch touchscreen with GMC’s IntelliLink system, while all other trims but the Base get an 8-inch touchscreen. IntelliLink includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the system is described as easy to use with customizable menus and shared preset space for radio and mobile devices.
- Fuel efficiency: The most efficient setups are the 4.3-liter V6 and the 5.3-liter V8 with eAssist, both rated at 18 mpg city, 24 highway, and 20 combined. The conventional rear-wheel-drive 5.3-liter V8 returns 16 mpg city, 23 highway, and 19 combined, while the 4WD test model with the 6.2-liter V8 returns 15 mpg city, 20 highway, and 17 combined.
Which 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 trim should I buy?
The 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 is offered in 4 trim levels: Sierra 1500, SLE, SLT, and Denali.
Here's the short version:
- Sierra 1500: This is the value-focused starting point, and it already gives you Bluetooth, a 6-speaker stereo, power locks, a power tailgate, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a 7-inch IntelliLink touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If you want the lowest-cost path into the lineup without giving up core tech and safety basics, this is the trim to start with.
- SLE: This is the best-value upgrade for many shoppers because it adds satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and the larger 8-inch IntelliLink screen while opening the door to more options packages. If you want a more modern-feeling cabin without jumping all the way to luxury-truck pricing, this is the trim to target.
- SLT: This trim is the sweet spot if you want a more upscale truck, since it adds leather seating, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and the standard 5.3-liter V8. It also can be equipped with a locking rear differential and a Bose premium stereo, making it a strong choice if comfort and capability both matter.
- Denali: This is the luxury pick, with heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, navigation, wireless charging, and the 7-speaker Bose stereo. It also gets the Enhanced Driver Alert Package standard, so it is the trim to buy if you want the most premium Sierra experience.
The safety package note to keep in mind is that the Enhanced Driver Alert Package is available on the SLE and SLT and standard on the Denali.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 GMC Sierra 1500?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,060 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.91% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 68.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $25,995, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500's resale value?
The current average of $25,995 sits slightly below last year's $27,924.
That softer pricing suggests the truck has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stays steady. A used Sierra 1500 that is well equipped and cleanly maintained should still appeal to shoppers who want a comfortable, upscale full-size pickup.
The fact that the model has strong owner satisfaction also helps support demand when it comes time to resell. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.44/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 safe?
The 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
It comes standard with a reversing camera with dynamic guidelines, six airbags, StabiliTrak stability control, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, and Easy Fill Alert for the tire pressure monitoring system. The Enhanced Driver Alert Package adds forward-collision alert, automatic high-beam control, lane-departure warning, front and rear parking sensors, and the Safety Alert seat.
That package is available on the SLE and SLT and standard on the Denali, so safety-conscious shoppers may want to prioritize those trims. The base truck still covers the essentials, but the higher trims bring the most complete driver-assistance setup.
Should I buy a 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 68.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.91% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.44/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It adds standard reversing-camera and infotainment equipment that improves value over the prior year.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $30,883, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $25,995 average.
- It was completely redesigned for more modern capability and usefulness.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2018 is the smarter buy because it combines lower pricing with strong equipment and broad appeal. If you want the newer redesign and are willing to pay more, the 2019 is the better long-term upgrade; price-sensitive buyers should stay with the 2018 and focus on condition, history, and trim.
