overall

Summary
With 264 currently listed for sale near Detroit, MI and an average price of $23,382, 14.0% of 2018 Ford Mustangs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Ford Mustang 4.61 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.
66.3% of 2018 Mustang models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
With a nip here and a tuck there, plus substantial mechanical and technological improvements, the 2018 Ford Mustang aims to ensure its continued popularity. That combination is what makes this Mustang distinctive: it keeps the familiar pony-car identity while becoming more sophisticated than before, blurring the line between mainstream and premium cars as well as between muscle cars and sports cars. It also remains a benchmark in the American 2-door sports coupe segment it has dominated since 1964.
For buyers, the appeal is straightforward: the 2018 Mustang is presented as a more refined and more performance-focused version of a long-established nameplate. The test-drive summary notes that its competitors are no longer limited solely to the Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger when performance is considered, which underscores how broadly capable this Mustang is meant to be. Owner feedback aligns with that image, praising its power, sporty design, fast acceleration, smooth ride, and enjoyable driving experience.
There are some tradeoffs, though. Owners have pointed to limited trunk space and discrepancies in vehicle specifications, so the car’s strengths are not matched by complete practicality. Even so, the 2018 Ford Mustang stands out as a stylish, fun, and affordable muscle car with enough polish to feel more upscale than its roots might suggest.

This is a driver’s car. Base model, performance package, standard shift. It’s got all the right parts and it is exactly the car I would have ordered if I were there to purchase this car when it was new.

First the color Kona Blue is beautiful especially in the sunlight. Ride is smooth and comfortable. I love that you change to sport mode. And your comfort or sport for steering. Love it! Inexpensive muscle car.

Very good value. Car is missing nothing. I would compare it to a corvette.

Engine sounds good. Interior has lots of cigarette burns. Front bumper cover was repainted, could have done a better job on the clear coat. Scratch down the passenger side quarter panel. Would have bought for cash if price was a little bit lower.

| Year-Round Low | $21,242 |
| Year-Round High | $23,746 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $23,332 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −2.75% |

There are 1,975 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.
Is the 2018 Ford Mustang a good car?
Yes — you’re looking at a 4.61/5 user-rated car with an 8.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise its power, sporty design, fast acceleration, smooth ride, and enjoyable driving experience. That lines up with the overview: you get a familiar pony-car identity with more sophistication, plus a car that still feels performance-focused and broadly capable. For you, that means the Mustang works best if you want style and speed first, while still keeping everyday usability in view.
With 30.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Ford Mustang reliable?
Owners rate it 4.61/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car that feels fun, stylish, and affordable, while also highlighting power, smooth ride quality, and an enjoyable driving experience. That kind of feedback suggests you can count on the Mustang to deliver the emotional side of ownership that shoppers expect from this nameplate.
The expert review also emphasizes that the Mustang’s performance and refinement are strong enough to make it feel more sophisticated than before, which supports the idea of a car that can hold up well as a used purchase if it has been maintained properly. For you, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the car’s character and more about making sure the specific example you buy has been cared for and matches its advertised condition.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Ford Mustang?
At 61.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has performance upgrades or a long list of options. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the car’s equipment matches the listing. Because this model can be bought in very different configurations, you’ll also want to make sure the trim and features are exactly what you expect.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The GT Premium coupe shown in the review adds a more upscale cabin with higher-quality materials, exposed contrast stitching, and aluminum carbon-pattern trim, while the Premium trim is also the path to leather seats. Base cars are more stripped down, so you should pay close attention to feature gaps if you want a more polished interior.
- Powertrain: The review highlights the 5.0-liter V8 with 460 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, plus a standard 6-speed manual and an available 10-speed automatic. The car also offers a turbocharged 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine, so you should match the engine choice to how you plan to drive.
- Safety package: The car includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, a driver monitoring system, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts. The lane-keeping assist can detract from driving enjoyment, but it can be shut off.
- Infotainment: You get a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, Sync 3 infotainment, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Ford Sync Connect, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.
- Fuel efficiency: The GT is rated at 19 miles per gallon in combined driving.
Which 2018 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?
The 2018 Ford Mustang is offered in 3 trim levels: EcoBoost, GT, and GT Premium.
Here's the short version:
- EcoBoost: This is the value play if you want Mustang style and fun without stepping up to V8 pricing. The review says the real value is found here, and it still gives you plenty of visual attitude and strong everyday enjoyment.
- GT: Choose this if you want the V8 experience and the strongest performance focus. The 5.0-liter engine, manual or 10-speed automatic, and available performance hardware make it the right pick if driving excitement matters most.
- GT Premium: This is the best-value choice if you want the GT’s performance with a more upscale cabin. It adds higher-quality interior materials and the option for leather seats, making it the most complete version for shoppers who want both speed and comfort.
The safety content notes that the car’s driver-assistance features are calibrated for performance driving, and the lane-keeping assist system can be turned off if you prefer a more natural driving feel.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Ford Mustang?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,975 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.75% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 61.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,242, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Ford Mustang's resale value?
The current average of $22,690 sits slightly below last year's $23,332.
That tells you the market has softened, which can help you as a buyer now but may also mean a future seller has less pricing power than before. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to limit depreciation pressure later. The current range also suggests that well-kept examples should still attract attention from shoppers who want a recognizable performance car.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.61/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Ford Mustang safe?
The 2018 Mustang earns an Acceptable rating from IIHS for small-overlap frontal-impact protection and Good ratings in other crash-test assessments. It also earns a five-star rating for rollover resistance from NHTSA.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
You also get adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, a driver monitoring system, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts. The lane-keeping assist system can be annoying in spirited driving, but you can switch it off.
Should I buy a 2018 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.75% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.61/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The expert summary says the 2018 Mustang is less rudimentary and more sophisticated than ever, while still delivering the performance focus that defines the nameplate.
The bottom line: If you want the best mix of modern features, strong performance, and softened pricing, the 2018 is the smart target. If you’re mainly chasing the lowest possible purchase price, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2018 gives you a compelling balance of refinement and capability.
