Is the 2018 Dodge Charger a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Dodge Charger earns 4.67/5 from owners and 7.33/10 from our experts. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its sporty feel, smooth ride, powerful performance, stylish design, tech features, and spacious interior. That lines up well with the Charger’s use case as a distinctive sedan that blends muscle-car character with everyday practicality and available all-wheel drive. Is the 2018 Dodge Charger reliable?

Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car people can count on for its sporty character, smooth ride, and strong performance, while also noting a few reliability issues and some concerns about condition. The expert notes also emphasize that the Charger is built to stay relevant with modern infotainment and safety technology, which helps support everyday dependability. If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is that condition and maintenance history can vary a lot from one example to the next.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Dodge Charger?

At 48.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified, driven hard, or priced unusually low. Focus on body condition, interior wear, and signs of uneven maintenance, since owner feedback mentions some concerns about condition and fit-and-finish. If you’re comparing multiple listings, the cleanest example with the best service history is usually the safer buy.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SXT is the entry point and comes with 17-inch aluminum wheels, dual stainless-steel exhaust, push-button start, a 6-way power driver’s seat, dual USB ports, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The SXT Plus adds fog lamps, heated power mirrors, 18-inch wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and a six-speaker audio system. The GT adds all-wheel drive, a Gloss Black front fascia, 19-inch wheels, and a flat-bottom steering wheel with paddle shifters, while the GT Plus adds heated and cooled seats plus a heated steering wheel. The R/T brings V8 power, a sport suspension, 20-inch wheels, and active exhaust, and the Scat Pack, Daytona, Daytona 392, SRT 392, and Hellcat move farther up the performance ladder with more aggressive hardware and equipment.
• Powertrain: The V6 models use a 3.6-liter engine with 292 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, or 300 horsepower and 264 pound-feet in GT trims and SXT models with the Super Track Pak. The R/T and Daytona use a 5.7-liter V8, while the R/T Scat Pack, Daytona 392, and SRT 392 use a 6.4-liter V8. At the top, the Hellcat uses a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 with 707 horsepower.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, front- and side-impact airbags, active head restraints, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Available driver assistance features include blind-spot warning with rear cross-path detection, and the Technology Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams.
• Infotainment: The SXT gets a 7-inch Uconnect touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Every other trim gets the larger 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen. The system is designed to be easy to use, and the GT also adds Dodge Performance Pages for performance data.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient version is the rear-wheel-drive V6, which returns 19 mpg city, 30 highway, and 23 combined. The all-wheel-drive V6 returns 18 mpg city, 27 highway, and 21 combined. The least-efficient version is the Hellcat at 13 mpg city, 22 highway, and 16 combined, while the most efficient V8 version, the R/T, gets 16 mpg city, 25 highway, and 19 combined.

Which 2018 Dodge Charger trim should I buy?

The 2018 Dodge Charger is offered in 9 trim levels: SXT, SXT Plus, GT, GT Plus, R/T, R/T Scat Pack, Daytona, Daytona 392, and SRT 392.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the value starting point if you want the Charger’s style and core features without paying for V8 power or extra luxury equipment. It gives you the essentials, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and it makes the most sense if you want the lowest entry price.
• SXT Plus: Choose this if you want a more comfortable daily driver, since it adds heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, upgraded wheels, and a better audio setup. It’s a good middle-ground pick if you want more convenience without jumping to a V8.
• GT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds all-wheel drive, a more aggressive look, and paddle shifters while keeping the V6. If you want extra traction and a sportier feel without moving into V8 territory, this is the one to target.
• GT Plus: Pick this if you want the GT’s all-wheel-drive setup plus more comfort features, including heated and cooled seats and a heated steering wheel. It suits you best if you live in a colder climate or want a more upscale daily driver.
• R/T: This is the first trim that gives you standard V8 power, along with a sport suspension, 20-inch wheels, and active exhaust. It’s the right choice if engine character matters more to you than fuel economy.
• R/T Scat Pack: This is the performance step-up if you want the stronger 6.4-liter V8, Brembo brakes, and performance-focused hardware. It’s the trim to buy if you want the most serious muscle-car feel without going all the way to the top end.
• Daytona: This trim keeps the R/T’s V8 foundation but adds performance and visual upgrades like a cold air intake, performance suspension, and unique styling touches. It’s a good fit if you want a more distinctive, enthusiast-oriented version of the V8 Charger.
• Daytona 392: Choose this if you want the Daytona’s extra equipment with the stronger 6.4-liter V8. It gives you more performance while keeping the Daytona’s special-edition character.
• SRT 392: This is the most focused performance trim in the lineup, with red Brembo calipers, high-performance active damping, and unique SRT interior touches. It’s the right pick if you want the most serious chassis tuning short of the Hellcat.

The safety content also notes that blind-spot warning with rear cross-path detection is available, and the Technology Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Dodge Charger?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 26.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,587 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.59% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 48.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,524, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Dodge Charger's resale value?

The current average of $18,558 sits slightly below last year's $20,082.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you can reduce the impact of that softer trend. The Charger’s distinctive appeal and strong owner satisfaction can still help support demand when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Dodge Charger safe?

The 2018 Dodge Charger earns a Good rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, front- and side-impact airbags, active head restraints, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Available driver assistance features include blind-spot warning with rear cross-path detection, and the Technology Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams. The main caveat is that several advanced driver-assistance features are optional rather than standard.

Should I buy a 2018 Dodge Charger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 26.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 48.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.59% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It blends retro muscle-sedan character with modern infotainment and available all-wheel drive.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $18,274, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $18,558 average.
• It stands out as a thunderous four-door muscle car that’s hard to ignore.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of value, modern tech, and broad trim choice, the 2018 is the stronger default pick. If your priority is spending less up front and you’re comfortable giving up some of the 2018’s updated appeal, the 2017 is the better budget-focused alternative.
