What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Dodge Charger?

At 48.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

Which 2018 Dodge Charger trim should I buy?

The 2018 Dodge Charger is offered in 10 trim levels: SXT, SXT Plus, GT, GT Plus, R/T, R/T Scat Pack, Daytona, Daytona 392, SRT 392, and Hellcat.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Charger’s core personality at the lowest price. You get the 7-inch Uconnect touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus the standard comfort and convenience features. It makes the most sense if you want the Charger look and feel without paying for extra performance or luxury equipment.
• SXT Plus: This is the best-value trim if you want a more complete daily-driver setup. It adds fog lamps, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, upgraded wheels, and a better stereo, which makes it feel more polished without jumping into V8 territory.
• GT: This is the trim to choose if you want all-wheel drive and a more distinctive driving setup. It adds AWD, a sportier steering wheel, and larger wheels, making it a strong fit if you want extra traction and a more athletic feel.
• GT Plus: This is the comfort-focused version of the GT. It builds on the GT with heated and cooled seats and a heated steering wheel, so it suits you best if you want AWD plus more premium everyday livability.
• R/T: This is the first V8 trim and the one to buy if engine character matters most. It adds sport suspension, 20-inch wheels, and active exhaust, giving you the classic Charger muscle-sedan experience.
• R/T Scat Pack: This is the performance step-up if you want the strongest value in the V8 lineup. The 6.4-liter V8, Brembo brakes, and performance seats make it the most compelling choice for buyers who want serious speed without going all the way to the top end.
• Daytona: This trim is for you if you want R/T power with extra performance hardware and a more distinctive appearance. The cold air intake, performance suspension, and unique styling details make it a more focused and more special-feeling version of the V8 Charger.
• Daytona 392: This is the Daytona with the stronger 6.4-liter V8, so it suits buyers who want the Daytona’s added hardware and styling with more power.
• SRT 392: This is the more serious performance choice, with active damping, Brembo hardware, and unique SRT touches. It’s the trim to consider if you want the most focused chassis tuning short of the Hellcat.
• Hellcat: This is the extreme choice, with the 707-horsepower supercharged V8. It’s for buyers who want maximum performance and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package is strongest when you add the Technology Group, since several advanced driver-assistance features are not standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Dodge Charger?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop, but the best listings can still move quickly.

• Deal availability: 25.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,539 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.83% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 48.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,513, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Dodge Charger's resale value?

The current average of $18,952 sits slightly below last year's $19,915.

That tells you the market has softened, which can work against future sellers if the trend continues. If you buy now, you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim desirability rather than on broad market appreciation.

Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold up better than rougher cars, especially because the Charger still has strong enthusiast appeal. A clean history and strong presentation matter more when the market is already pricing the model below last year’s level.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Dodge Charger safe?

The 2018 Dodge Charger earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Dodge makes a reversing camera and rear parking sensors standard across the lineup, along with front- and side-impact airbags, active head restraints, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, and a tire pressure monitoring system. The available Technology Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams, while blind-spot warning with rear cross-path detection is also available.

Some of those driver-assistance features are optional rather than standard, so you should check the exact equipment on any used listing you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2018 Dodge Charger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 25.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 48.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.83% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 stands out for its rear-wheel-drive muscle-sedan character, available all-wheel drive, and broad trim range.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $18,064, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $18,952 average.
• It’s a bold, attention-grabbing muscle sedan with strong enthusiast appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of current pricing, inventory, and modern equipment, the 2018 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2017 can be the smarter value play, especially if you find a clean example with the equipment you want.
