Why it stands out
The 2018 Chevrolet Volt stands out as a plug-in hybrid that blends everyday usability with real electric driving range. In its second-generation form, it used a different electrical architecture and became more of a plug-in hybrid than a range-extended electric vehicle, with engine torque sent directly to the wheels through a mechanical connection. That setup helped boost the EPA-estimated all-electric range to around 53 miles, while the car also seated five and could run on regular fuel.
It also brought a strong mix of technology and efficiency. The 2018 Volt used an 18.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, a dual-electric motor/generator, and a front-wheel drive drivetrain, with a 1.5-liter inline four engine rated at 149 horsepower and 294 pound-feet of torque. Fuel economy was listed at 43/42 mpg and 106 MPGe in electric mode, and the total range reached 420 miles. Standard equipment included automatic climate control, remote start, passive entry, a built-in WiFi hotspot, an eight-inch infotainment touchscreen, a rearview camera, cruise control, and Apple CarPlay, while available features included heated leather seats, a heated steering wheel, ambient lighting, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking.
For buyers, the 2018 Volt’s appeal is its combination of modern features, strong efficiency, and practical range flexibility. It is also a compact, urban-friendly car, but it does have tradeoffs: the rear seats are cramped, the cargo area is small, and the interior materials are described as cheap.

The Volt is an excellent car and offers the best of both worlds. The second generation volt offers over 50 miles of pure electric range but also gives you peace of mind with a gas engine that will get you a combined 400 or so miles of range. No range anxiety and no worries about the rising gas prices for your daily commute.

How much does the 2018 Chevrolet Volt cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $13,711 |
| Year-Round Low | $12,881 |
| Year-Round High | $14,667 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $14,668 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.52% |
Prices have softened 6.52% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 194 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2018 Chevrolet Volt a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Chevrolet Volt earns a 4.7/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its flexible hybrid system, its extended electric range of over 50 miles, and its strong fuel economy. For you, that makes it a smart fit if you want a compact, urban-friendly car that can handle daily commuting with less range anxiety and still run on regular fuel when needed. With 29.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Chevrolet Volt reliable?
Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The review summary also highlights it as reliable, dependable, and a car many owners feel they can count on for trouble-free use over the long term. That matters if you want a used car that can handle commuting and mixed driving without feeling fragile or overly complicated. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the battery, charging system, and overall condition have been maintained well.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Chevrolet Volt?
At 68.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the battery system, charging behavior, brakes, and any signs of uneven wear or repair work. Because the Volt’s appeal depends so much on efficiency and everyday usability, condition matters as much as mileage.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Chevrolet Volt?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 194 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.52% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 68.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,881, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Chevrolet Volt's resale value?
The current average of $13,711 sits slightly below last year's $14,668.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become a little more favorable for buyers, but it also means a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later. Strong demand for efficient, practical hybrids can help support values, especially when the car has been well maintained.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 68.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.52% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line:
The 2018 is the better choice if you want a well-liked Volt with strong owner approval and a market that still offers some deal opportunities. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-priced example rather than the newest one you can find.
