How much does the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe cost?

Prices have softened 13.41% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,717 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe a good car?

Generally — with a 4.3/5 user rating and an expert rating of 6.7/10, the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe lands as a like-it-for-what-it-is SUV rather than a purely rational buy. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

Owners repeatedly praise the spaciousness, comfort, and powerful performance, and they also like the updated features. That lines up with the Tahoe’s role as a big SUV you buy for presence, styling, and V8 character more than maximum practicality.

The Tahoe’s appeal is strongest if you want a full-size SUV that feels substantial and family-friendly, even if it is not the most efficient or space-maximizing choice in its class. With 31.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners also describe it as spacious, comfortable, and powerful, which suggests a vehicle that many buyers feel good about living with over time. The user feedback points to a Tahoe that can be dependable for family duty when you choose a clean example and keep up with maintenance.

The expert drive notes reinforce that this is a heavy-duty-feeling SUV built around a straightforward V8 setup, which can be a plus for long-term confidence if you value simplicity. If you buy used, the biggest ownership risk is ending up with a poorly maintained or accident-affected example, so condition and history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe?

At 61.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the SUV has the equipment you want, since some buyers note missing features such as a sunroof or push-start ignition.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Premier trim stands out for its more upscale presentation, and the RST Package adds giant 22-inch wheels, black bowtie badges, and Tungsten Metallic paint for a more aggressive look. The base Tahoe is more straightforward, so you should pay close attention to feature gaps if you want a more premium feel.
• Powertrain: The Tahoe offers a 5.3-liter V8 with 355 hp and a 6-speed automatic, while the available 6.2-liter V8 brings more power and is paired with a 10-speed automatic. The bigger engine is the one tied to the stronger performance character, but it also comes with premium-fuel considerations.
• Safety package: Chevrolet includes blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, low-speed automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist. Adaptive cruise control with high-speed automatic emergency braking is reserved for Premier trim, and it is not available with the bigger 6.2-liter V8.
• Infotainment: The Tahoe uses the MyLink system with an 8-inch driver information center, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, OnStar subscription services, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. It also has knobs and buttons for core functions, plus a hidden cubby behind the screen.
• Fuel efficiency: The 6.2-liter V8 averaged 17 mpg on the test loop, and Chevrolet recommends premium fuel for that engine.

Which 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe trim should I buy?

The 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe is offered in 2 trim levels: LS, Premier.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the trim to target if you want the Tahoe experience at the lowest entry point. It gives you the core full-size SUV formula, and it makes the most sense if you care more about the Tahoe’s size, V8 character, and utility than about luxury extras.
• Premier: This is the better choice if you want the more upscale Tahoe and are willing to pay for it. It is the trim tied to adaptive cruise control with high-speed automatic emergency braking, though that feature is not available with the bigger 6.2-liter V8.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.

• Deal availability: 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,717 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.41% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,926, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe's resale value?

The current average of $21,926 sits slightly below last year's $25,323.

That decline suggests the Tahoe has become more affordable for used buyers, which can help you enter the market at a lower cost. For a future seller, though, it also means you should expect pricing pressure if the broader market stays soft.

The good news is that the Tahoe still has strong appeal with shoppers who want a big SUV for its image, V8 sound, and family-friendly presence. That kind of demand can help support resale value, especially for clean, well-equipped examples.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe safe?

The Tahoe gets a mediocre three-star rating for rollover resistance from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and it earns five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not tested a Tahoe.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Chevrolet includes blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, low-speed automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist systems for all Tahoe buyers. Adaptive cruise control with high-speed automatic emergency braking is reserved for Premier trim, and you cannot get it with the bigger 6.2-liter V8.

The main caveat is the rollover result, which is worth keeping in mind because this is a tall, heavy SUV. If safety is a top priority, you should pay close attention to trim and equipment, and you should avoid assuming every version has the same driver-assistance setup.

Should I buy a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.41% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• Don’t try to rationalize the purchase of a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe. The less expensive Chevy Traverse is better at hauling people and cargo than a Tahoe, and other full-size SUVs can tow more trailer weight than a Tahoe. That means you’re most likely buying this heavy Chevy for its styling and V8 engine burble.

The bottom line: If you want the Tahoe’s look, presence, and V8 character, the 2018 is a reasonable year to target because pricing has eased and inventory is healthy. If your priority is maximum people-moving or cargo-hauling value, a different year may not solve the Tahoe’s core tradeoffs, so a cheaper crossover may be the smarter path.
