CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe
overall

Summary
With 2,825 currently listed for sale and an average price of $22,571, 32.5% of 2018 Chevrolet Tahoes for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe 4.27 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.67 / 10.
61.1% of 2018 Tahoe models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe stands out as an SUV people often buy because they want one, not because they have to justify it. Its appeal is tied to its styling and V8 engine burble, which give it a more emotional draw than a purely practical one. The available owner feedback also points to a cabin that feels spacious and comfortable, which helps explain why it remains attractive to families.
At the same time, the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe is not the most rational choice in its class. The less expensive Chevy Traverse is better at hauling people and cargo, and other full-size SUVs can tow more trailer weight. That makes the Tahoe a vehicle with clear strengths, but also one whose value depends heavily on whether a buyer prioritizes presence and character over maximum utility.

Really love the Tahoe and all the features. It is very comfortable compared to my previous vehicle the Ford Explorer. I like that the fact that the vehicle sits up higher and is much more spacious. The vehicle is not missing anything in my opinion.

My new 2018 Tahoe LT is unlike my previous Tahoe LT which had leather seats, Bose Speakers & third row seating but it sure is Awesome. The ride, comfort & the all the updated features make this Tahoe a dream to drive. This is my 3rd Chevy Tahoe owned so I have a tremendous amount of confidence in Chevy Tahoe.

How much does the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $22,580 |
| Year-Round Low | $22,464 |
| Year-Round High | $25,710 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $25,665 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −12.02% |
Prices have softened 12.02% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,793 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare on price and condition.
Is the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe a good car?
Generally — 4.27/5 from owners and 6.67/10 from our experts, the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe is a strong fit if you want an SUV with presence, a spacious cabin, and a V8 character that feels more emotional than purely practical. Owners repeatedly praise the spaciousness and comfort, and they also highlight the powerful performance and updated features.
The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.
That lines up with the Tahoe’s use case as a family SUV that people often choose because they want the style and feel of a full-size truck-based SUV, not because they need the most rational people-mover in the class. If that emotional appeal matters to you, the Tahoe makes sense.
32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so you can still find some market-friendly examples if you shop carefully.
Is the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe reliable?
Owners rate it 4.27/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a cabin that feels spacious and comfortable, and it also suggests the Tahoe can be a dependable choice for families who want a large SUV they can count on. The expert review also emphasizes that this is a vehicle people buy for its character and capability, which usually means you should expect a more specialized ownership experience than you would with a mainstream crossover.
Chevrolet also includes useful ownership-minded features such as Teen Driver technology and Rear Seat Reminder, which can help support day-to-day confidence.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a Tahoe’s appeal often depends on how it was used and maintained, so a clean service history matters a lot.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe?
At 61.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with a price that looks unusually attractive. Pay close attention to signs of prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, tire wear, and any evidence that the SUV was used hard.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Tahoe’s styling is a major part of its appeal, and the Premier trim with the RST Package adds a more aggressive look, giant 22-inch wheels, black bowtie badges, and Tungsten Metallic paint. Base-trim shoppers should expect a simpler presentation and fewer of the appearance and comfort upgrades that make the higher trims feel special.
- Powertrain: You can get a 5.3-liter V8 with a 6-speed automatic, or a 6.2-liter V8 with a 10-speed automatic. The bigger engine brings stronger performance and a more satisfying exhaust note, but it also comes with premium-fuel recommendations and higher running costs.
- Safety package: Chevrolet includes blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, low-speed automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist. Adaptive cruise control with high-speed automatic emergency braking is reserved for Premier trim, and it is not available with the bigger 6.2-liter V8.
- Infotainment: The Tahoe uses the MyLink system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, OnStar subscription services, a Wi-Fi hotspot, physical knobs and buttons, and an 8-inch driver information center. It also offers a head-up display and rear-seat entertainment, though the rear screen can block rearward visibility when deployed.
- Fuel efficiency: The 6.2-liter V8 averaged 17 mpg on the test loop, and Chevrolet recommends premium fuel for this engine.
Which 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe trim should I buy?
The 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe is offered in 3 trim levels: LS, LT, Premier.
Here's the short version:
- LS: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Tahoe experience without the extra luxury and appearance upgrades. It makes sense if you want the core full-size SUV formula and plan to keep the budget in check.
- LT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it sits in the middle of the lineup and should give you a better balance of equipment and price than the top trim. If you want a Tahoe that feels well equipped without chasing the most expensive version, this is the one to focus on.
- Premier: This is the trim to target if you want the most upscale Tahoe experience and the strongest feature content. It also unlocks adaptive cruise control with high-speed automatic emergency braking, though that feature is not available with the bigger 6.2-liter V8.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and enough deal activity to reward careful shopping.
- Deal availability: 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,793 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.02% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 61.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,464, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe's resale value?
The current average of $22,580 sits slightly below last year's $25,665.
That decline suggests the Tahoe has become more affordable for used buyers, which can help demand in the near term. For a future seller, that means your resale outcome will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle was maintained.
Because the Tahoe still has strong owner satisfaction and a clear identity as a desirable full-size SUV, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. If you buy smart now and keep the truck in good shape, you give yourself a better shot at holding value later.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.27/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe safe?
The Tahoe gets a mediocre three-star rating for rollover resistance from NHTSA, while earning five-star ratings in all other NHTSA crash tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not tested a Tahoe.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Chevrolet provides all Tahoe buyers with blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, low-speed automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist. Adaptive cruise control with high-speed automatic emergency braking is reserved for Premier trim, and you can’t get it with the bigger 6.2-liter V8.
That rollover result is the main caveat to keep in mind, especially because the Tahoe is a tall, heavy SUV that many families will use for everyday driving.
Should I buy a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.02% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.27/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The expert review says this year is especially about the Tahoe’s styling and V8 character, with the RST 6.2L Performance Package standing out as the most expressive version.
The bottom line: The 2018 Tahoe makes the most sense if you want the Tahoe’s style, V8 personality, and full-size presence at a softer used-car price. If you’re shopping mainly on value or need the most rational people-and-cargo hauler, a different year or a different SUV may fit you better.
