The expert review reinforces that dependability angle by emphasizing how the Bolt EV makes long-range electric driving feel approachable and manageable in normal use.

Chevrolet also added thoughtful comfort updates for 2018, including extendable sun visors and a programmable heated steering wheel, which can make ownership easier in changing weather. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the battery, charging equipment, and overall wear still support the range and convenience you expect from an EV.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Chevrolet Bolt EV?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history carefully, because even a clean-looking EV can hide prior damage or charging-related issues. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on battery condition, charging behavior, and whether all convenience and driver-assistance features work as expected. Pay close attention to cabin condition too, since the dashboard color drew complaints from some owners about visibility.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LT starts with keyless ignition and entry, xenon headlights with LED running lights, automatic climate control, 17-inch alloys, cloth upholstery, and a 10.2-inch touchscreen with standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Premier adds leather seats, heated rear seats, ambient interior lighting, roof rails, a top-down camera system, and an upgraded rear-view mirror with embedded camera display.
• Powertrain: Every Bolt EV uses the same electric motor and 60kWh battery pack, with 200 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. The instant torque delivery and one-pedal driving setup are major parts of the driving experience.
• Safety package: The base trim can be equipped with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. The Premier-only Driver Confidence II package adds forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, low-speed automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning and intervention, and automatic high-beams.
• Infotainment: The Bolt EV uses a 10.2-inch touchscreen with Chevy MyLink, standard wireless smartphone integration through Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, two USB ports, and a 4G LTE connection with Wi-Fi hotspot capability. The Premier with the Infotainment package adds wireless smartphone charging and rear USB charge ports.
• Range & charging: The Bolt EV is rated at 238 miles of range and uses a 60kWh battery pack. DC fast charging can add 90 miles in 30 minutes, and a depleted battery can be recharged in just over an hour on a fast charger.
• Battery health: On a used EV, you should check battery state-of-health, confirm how the car has typically been charged, and review how much battery warranty coverage remains. Home charging is usually gentler for daily use, while frequent DC fast charging can matter more on higher-mileage examples.

Which 2018 Chevrolet Bolt EV trim should I buy?

The 2018 Chevrolet Bolt EV is offered in 2 trim levels: LT and Premier.

Here's the short version:

• LT: This is the best-value choice if you want the Bolt EV’s core strengths without paying for extras. You still get the 10.2-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, keyless entry, and the same electric powertrain and range as the Premier.
• Premier: Choose this if you want the more upscale cabin and the extra convenience and safety equipment, including leather seats, heated rear seats, the top-down camera system, and the available infotainment and Driver Confidence II upgrades.

The safety package note is simple: the more advanced Driver Confidence II features are Premier-only, while some helpful driver aids can be added to the LT through options.

Should I buy a 2018 Chevrolet Bolt EV or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 24.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds thoughtful comfort updates like extendable sun visors and a programmable heated steering wheel.

Consider the 2017 if:

• It delivers 238 estimated miles of range and feels like an exceptionally practical daily driver.

The bottom line: If you want the better-rounded used Bolt EV, the 2018 is the safer bet because it keeps the long-range appeal while adding useful comfort updates. If you’re mainly chasing value and can live with an earlier example, the 2017 remains attractive for buyers who prioritize range and everyday usability over newer conveniences.
