What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Buick Enclave?

At 64.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible cosmetic wear. Focus on condition details that matter in a luxury-oriented SUV, including cabin wear, electronics, and any signs of prior bodywork.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim includes LEDs, remote engine start, 3-zone automatic climate control, and rear parking sensors, while the Essence adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alerts, an optional top-down camera, standard leather, and available all-wheel drive and towing equipment. The Premium adds front parking sensors, a Bose stereo, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, power-folding third-row seating, and more advanced safety systems, while the Avenir adds 20-inch alloys, an enhanced driver-info screen, rear camera display in the mirror, standard navigation, a sunroof, and a top-down camera.
• Powertrain: A 3.6-liter V6 works with a 9-speed transmission, with front-wheel drive on the base model and all-wheel drive available on higher trims. The text also notes that the twin-clutch AWD system on the Premier and Avenir trims is smoother and more elegant than the open-differential AWD setup on Essence.
• Safety package: The available driver-assistance equipment includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alerts, a top-down camera, low-speed forward-collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning and intervention, and highway-speed auto braking. Some of that equipment is reserved for higher trims, so you should verify exactly what a specific listing includes.
• Infotainment: The Enclave includes an 8-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, 4G LTE, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and six USB ports, including four for rear passengers. Navigation is not standard on lower trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert notes say the Enclave adds 2-3 mpg in 2018 depending on trim and configuration, and the tested Premium AWD example returned 17 mpg city, 25 highway, and 20 combined.

Which 2018 Buick Enclave trim should I buy?

The 2018 Buick Enclave is offered in 4 trim levels: Base, Essence, Premium, Avenir.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the value starting point if you want the Enclave’s quiet cabin, standard LEDs, remote start, 3-zone climate control, rear parking sensors, and smartphone integration without paying for more luxury features.
• Essence: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alerts, standard leather, and available all-wheel drive and towing equipment, making it a smart step up for everyday use.
• Premium: Choose this if you want the richer comfort and safety mix, including ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, front parking sensors, a Bose stereo, and more advanced driver-assistance features.
• Avenir: This is the top choice if you want the most upscale Enclave, with 20-inch wheels, standard navigation, a sunroof, a rear camera display in the mirror, upgraded interior trim, and the most advanced available chassis and driver-assistance features.

For safety-minded shoppers, the higher trims carry more of the Enclave’s useful driver-assistance equipment, so it’s worth checking the exact feature set before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Buick Enclave?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,239 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.46% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 64.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,011, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Buick Enclave's resale value?

The current average of $16,088 sits slightly below last year's $17,198.

That softer pricing suggests the Enclave has become more approachable for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to stay competitive on condition and equipment. Well-kept examples with desirable features should hold up better than rougher listings, especially if they present as clean, quiet, and well maintained.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Buick Enclave safe?

The 2018 Buick Enclave earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings for rollover and front passenger impact tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The available driver-assistance equipment includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alerts, a top-down camera, low-speed forward-collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning and intervention, and highway-speed auto braking. Some of those features are reserved for higher trims, so you should confirm the exact equipment on any used listing you’re considering.

The safety writeup also flags braking performance as a weakness, with the Enclave taking more than 130 feet to stop from 60 mph.

Should I buy a 2018 Buick Enclave or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 64.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.46% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 model brings a full redesign with more power, less weight, and a quieter, more modern cabin.

The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Enclave with stronger performance, more refinement, and a better tech story, the 2018 is the right target. If you’re mainly shopping on price, a nearby year may save you money, but you’ll want to compare condition, equipment, and mileage carefully before deciding.

How does the 2018 Buick Enclave compare to the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse?

Our experts score the 2018 Buick Enclave 7/10 and the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse 8/10.

The Enclave asks more money up front, but it brings a quieter, more upscale cabin and a stronger luxury feel. The Traverse is the better value on paper, with a lower starting price, more listings, and a slightly better highway MPG figure. If you want the more premium-feeling SUV, the Enclave makes sense; if you want the cheaper and more plentiful choice, the Traverse is the easier buy.
