Is the 2018 Buick Enclave reliable?

The expert evaluation also emphasizes Buick’s comfort-first approach and the Enclave’s refined, quiet character, which supports the impression of a vehicle you can count on for everyday family duty. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific vehicle you choose has been cared for well, since condition and maintenance history will matter more than the model’s overall reputation.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Buick Enclave?

At 63.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible cosmetic wear. Focus on how the cabin, cameras, and driver-assistance features function, since the Enclave’s appeal depends heavily on comfort and technology working as intended. It’s also smart to pay close attention to braking feel and overall visibility during your test drive.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim includes LEDs, remote engine start, 3-zone automatic climate control, and rear parking sensors, while the Essence adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alerts, an optional top-down camera, standard leather, and available all-wheel drive and towing equipment. The Premium trim adds front parking sensors, a Bose stereo, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, power-folding third-row seating, and more advanced safety systems, while the Avenir adds 20-inch alloys, an enhanced driver-info screen, rear camera display in the mirror, standard navigation, sunroof, and top-down camera.
• Powertrain: A 3.6-liter V6 is paired with a 9-speed transmission, with front-wheel drive quicker than all-wheel drive. The available all-wheel-drive setups vary by trim, with the more advanced twin-clutch system on the higher trims.
• Safety package: The higher trims add blind-spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alerts, low-speed forward-collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning and intervention, and front parking sensors. Some of the more useful visibility and safety features are not standard on the lower trims.
• Infotainment: The Enclave includes an 8-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, 4G LTE, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and six USB ports. Navigation is reserved for the Avenir, and the top-down camera is not standard on the lower trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The Enclave is rated at 17 mpg city, 25 highway, 20 combined in the tested AWD configuration, and Buick says the new setup adds 2-3 mpg depending on trim and configuration.

Which 2018 Buick Enclave trim should I buy?

The 2018 Buick Enclave is offered in 4 trim levels: base, Essence, Premium, Avenir.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the value starting point if you want the Enclave’s quiet cabin, standard LEDs, remote start, 3-zone automatic climate control, rear parking sensors, and the core infotainment setup without paying for the higher-end convenience and safety upgrades.
• Essence: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alerts, an optional top-down camera, standard leather, and the option of all-wheel drive and towing equipment.
• Premium: Choose this if you want the richer comfort and safety mix, including front parking sensors, a Bose stereo, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, power-folding third-row seating, and more advanced driver-assistance features.
• Avenir: This is the luxury-focused choice, adding 20-inch alloys, an enhanced driver-info screen, rear camera display in the mirror, standard navigation, sunroof, and top-down camera, along with the most upscale interior treatment.

The safety-package upgrades are concentrated in the higher trims, so if visibility and driver assistance matter most, you’ll want to shop above the base model.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Buick Enclave?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,179 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.86% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 63.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,014, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Buick Enclave's resale value?

The current average of $16,198 sits slightly below last year's $17,206.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point if you plan to keep the vehicle for a while. For a future seller, the softer pricing means there may be less upside than there was a year ago, but it also indicates the model is still trading in a stable, understandable range. Well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones because shoppers in this segment tend to respond to comfort, features, and condition.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Buick Enclave safe?

The 2018 Buick Enclave earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings for rollover and front passenger impact tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The available safety equipment expands as you move up the trim ladder, with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alerts, low-speed forward-collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning and intervention, and front parking sensors appearing on higher trims. The lower trims leave some of the most useful visibility aids and driver-assistance features off the standard equipment list.

One caveat worth noting is that braking performance is a weak point, with the Enclave taking more than 130 feet to stop from 60 mph.

Should I buy a 2018 Buick Enclave or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 63.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.86% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 brings a full redesign with more power, less weight, a quieter cabin, and a stronger, more modern feel than the previous generation.

The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Enclave’s quieter cabin, stronger performance, and improved tech, the 2018 is the year to target. If your priority is simply the lowest possible purchase price, a nearby older model may cost less, but you’ll give up the newer-generation feel and upgrades that make this one more appealing.
