Is the 2018 BMW X5 a good car?

Generally — the 4.3/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its comfort, smooth driving experience, and blend of luxury and utility, while also highlighting its sporty handling and performance. The X5’s well-equipped cabin and everyday usefulness make it a strong fit if you want a luxury SUV that still feels engaging to drive. With 35.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market also gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 BMW X5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a vehicle many owners find dependable in daily use, especially when it comes to comfort and the overall driving experience. At the same time, the overview notes that this generation was not the most trouble-free BMW X5, and repairs can be expensive when major maintenance is needed. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is manageable if you choose carefully, but it can rise quickly if maintenance history is weak.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 BMW X5?

At 67.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a full vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on signs of past collision work, uneven panel gaps, and wear that doesn’t match the mileage. Because repair costs can be high on this model, condition and maintenance records matter more than chasing the lowest sticker price.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 BMW X5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,643 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.88% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 67.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,852, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 BMW X5's resale value?

The current average of $16,852 sits slightly below last year's $19,569.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and maintenance history rather than model-year age alone. Well-kept examples should hold up better than average because buyers still respond to the X5’s comfort and driving appeal.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2018 BMW X5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 67.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.88% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $24,353, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $16,852 average.
• It brings a redesigned interior with updated iDrive and Level 2 driver-assistance tech.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2018 if you want the lower purchase price and strong owner satisfaction. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer redesign and updated technology, the 2019 is the better upgrade path. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2018 remains the smarter value play as long as you verify history and condition carefully.
