CarGurus Analysis: 2018 BMW 3 Series

Summary
With 1,206 currently listed for sale and an average price of $15,222, 31.6% of 2018 BMW 3 Series models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 BMW 3 Series 4.53 / 5 stars.
58.9% of 2018 BMW 3 Series models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 BMW 3 Series stands out as a compact luxury sedan that still leans hard into BMW’s traditional strengths: performance, handling, and a premium feel. It remains part of a lineup that has long been known for offering a wide range of powertrains and drivetrains, and the 3 Series’ reputation for precise handling and confidence-inspiring braking is a big part of its appeal. For buyers who want a driver-focused sedan with businesslike luxury, it continues to deliver that familiar BMW character.
For this model year, the 3 Series also benefits from the sixth-generation car’s broad mix of engines and available equipment. The lineup includes four-cylinder, six-cylinder, diesel, and plug-in hybrid choices, and it can be had with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. It also offers a manual or automatic transmission, though the source notes that the 2018 models are the newest and priciest examples in this generation. Technology and safety equipment are part of the package too, but some advanced features were optional, so used examples can vary quite a bit in content.
The tradeoff is that the 2018 BMW 3 Series is still a fairly tight car inside, especially in back, and ownership can be expensive. The source also notes that these cars are complex, so maintenance costs are significant. Even so, for shoppers who value driving enjoyment and a premium badge more than maximum space or low running costs, the 2018 3 Series remains an appealing used luxury sedan.

One of the best diesel engines in the market, reliable and the consumption is amazing, I was making 930 kilometres with a full tank, not even electric or hybrids delivers that amazing number.

Somewhat similar to Audi A3 E-tron, but that model is no longer available in US. Wish the 330e could go farther on just electricity. Youll never actually save money with these PHEVs, but Mother Nature will like it

How much does the 2018 BMW 3 Series cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,206 |
| Year-Round Low | $14,745 |
| Year-Round High | $16,445 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $16,443 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.52% |
Prices have softened 7.52% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,192 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2018 BMW 3 Series a good car?
Yes — the 2018 BMW 3 Series earns a 4.53/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the performance, powerful acceleration, and smooth handling, and many also like the ride quality. For you, that means this model fits best if you want a driver-focused compact luxury sedan with a premium feel and a businesslike character. The 32.5% share of good or great deals also gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 BMW 3 Series reliable?
Owners rate it 4.53/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable ownership experience, with many drivers describing the car as enjoyable over time thanks to its smooth handling and strong performance. That said, the 3 Series is still a complex luxury car, so long-term ownership risk can rise if maintenance history is incomplete or deferred.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 BMW 3 Series?
At 58.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a car with higher mileage or limited service records. Focus on overall condition, maintenance consistency, and any signs that the car has been used hard or repaired poorly.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 BMW 3 Series?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,192 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.52% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 58.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,745, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 BMW 3 Series's resale value?
The current average of $15,206 sits slightly below last year's $16,443.
That softer pricing can help you buy at a more favorable point, but it also means future resale gains may be limited if the market stays soft. If you plan to sell later, condition and documentation will matter more because buyers in this segment tend to compare closely on history and upkeep. A well-kept example should still hold attention better than a neglected one.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.53/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 58.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.52% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.53/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $20,714, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $15,206 average.
- It brings a more modern software experience.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2018 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with solid owner satisfaction and meaningful deal availability. If you care more about the newer model's updated software and are willing to pay a premium, the 2019 is the better alternative. For most price-sensitive buyers, the 2018 is the smarter buy.
