Owners consistently praise the luxurious interior, smooth driving experience, strong safety features, comfortable ride, handling, spacious rear seats, and technology. That lines up well with the Q5’s role as a redesigned compact luxury SUV that emphasizes comfort, refinement, and capability over flash.

Is the 2018 Audi Q5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

That kind of feedback matters because it suggests the Q5 is the sort of SUV you can count on for routine commuting and family duty.

The expert review also reinforces that impression by describing the Q5 as a polished, well-rounded SUV with improved performance, greater sophistication, and a strong overall balance. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the core package and more about making sure any specific vehicle has been maintained well and doesn’t have unresolved issues tied to shifting, braking, or prior use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Audi Q5?

At 69.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has any accident history or incomplete service records. Focus on condition details that matter in a luxury SUV: interior wear, electronics, braking feel, and how smoothly the drivetrain behaves in normal driving.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige are the standard trims, and the base version is the one most likely to leave you without some of the higher-end convenience and tech features.
• Powertrain: A turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 252 horsepower is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission and Quattro Ultra all-wheel drive, with drive modes including an off-road setting.
• Safety package: Audi Pre-Sense is standard on all Q5 models and includes forward-collision detection and automatic emergency braking below 52 mph, while the Driver Assistance Package on Prestige adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, automatic high beams, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, the Multi-Media Interface All-in-Touch system is standard on Prestige and optional on other versions, and Audi Virtual Cockpit is standard on Prestige and optional on Premium Plus.
• Fuel efficiency: The Q5 is described as achieving 25 mpg in combined city and highway driving, and the Quattro Ultra system is designed to decouple the rear axle under certain conditions to help maximize fuel economy.

Which 2018 Audi Q5 trim should I buy?

The 2018 Audi Q5 is offered in 3 trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, Prestige.

Here's the short version:

• Premium: This is the entry point, and it gives you the redesigned Q5 experience with standard AWD, leather seats, real wood trim, three-zone climate control, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Audi Pre-Sense. It makes sense if you want the core Q5 formula at the lowest price, but you’ll miss some of the richer tech and convenience upgrades found higher up.
• Premium Plus: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more of the features that make the Q5 feel genuinely upscale, including blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and Vehicle Exit Assist, plus access to more optional tech. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, this is the one to target.
• Prestige: This is the most fully equipped version, with standard Multi-Media Interface All-in-Touch, Audi Virtual Cockpit, a full-color head-up display, and the Driver Assistance Package when ordered. Choose this if you want the most advanced tech and the most complete safety and convenience setup.

The safety-package trim note is simple: Audi’s Driver Assistance Package is exclusive to Prestige models.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Audi Q5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 37.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,782 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.94% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 69.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,441, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Audi Q5's resale value?

The current average of $15,441 sits slightly below last year's $17,145.

That price movement suggests the Q5 has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can be helpful if you’re buying now and planning to own for a while. For a future seller, it means the market is currently valuing this model year more conservatively than it did a year ago, so resale gains are unlikely to come from short-term appreciation.

What matters more is how well the vehicle is maintained and how clean its history is. A well-kept example with strong equipment and no accident history should be easier to move later than one with visible wear or unresolved issues.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Audi Q5 safe?

The 2018 Audi Q5 earns top marks for moderate overlap frontal impact and side impact protection from IIHS, but a Marginal rating for the headlight performance of certain versions of the vehicle.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Audi Pre-Sense is standard on all Q5 models and includes forward-collision detection and automatic emergency braking below 52 mph, along with cabin-preparation technology for an unavoidable impact. The Driver Assistance Package, exclusive to Prestige models, adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and Traffic Jam Assist.

The main caveat to keep in mind is the headlight result on certain versions, so you should pay close attention to the exact equipment on any used listing you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2018 Audi Q5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 37.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.94% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Expert or safety highlight specific to this year from the redesigned model’s latest technology, improved performance and driving dynamics, and stronger overall sophistication.

The bottom line: The 2018 Q5 is the better pick if you want the redesigned version with strong tech, a polished driving feel, and a market that currently gives you some negotiating room. If your priority is simply the lowest possible purchase price, you may also want to compare nearby years and shop whichever one gives you the cleanest history and best equipment for the money.

How does the 2018 Audi Q5 compare to the 2018 BMW X3?

Our experts score the 2018 Audi Q5 7.8/10 and the 2018 BMW X3 7.7/10.

The Q5 edges the X3 on expert score, average used price, and good-and-great deal share, while the X3 has slightly more listings and a marginally higher accident-free share. On paper, the Audi also brings a bit more horsepower and better city fuel economy, while the BMW counters with stronger highway MPG.

If you want the slightly better value and the more favorable market pricing, the Q5 has the advantage. If you care more about a bit more inventory and a slightly cleaner accident-free mix, the X3 is close enough to deserve a look.
