What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Audi A5 Sportback?

At 63.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or any signs of inconsistent panel fit, paint, or trim wear. Focus on condition and equipment completeness, since owners specifically mention missing features they wish the car had, and the right example should match your expectations for comfort and technology.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The car is offered in A5 and S5 model series, with Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trim levels. The Premium Plus trim stands out because it adds Audi Virtual Cockpit as an option and brings blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Vehicle Exit Assist, while Prestige adds more luxury and convenience equipment such as the head-up display, adaptive cruise control, parking sensors, and a top-view camera system.
• Powertrain: The A5 uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission and standard Quattro all-wheel drive. Audi says 60 mph arrives in 5.7 seconds, and the car is tuned for quick response and strong everyday performance.
• Safety package: Every A5 Sportback includes forward-collision warning, low-to-moderate-speed automatic emergency braking, occupant-preparation technology, and post-impact braking. Premium Plus adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Vehicle Exit Assist, while Prestige adds front and rear parking sensors, a top-view camera system, and the Driver Assistance Package with adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic high beams, and traffic-sign recognition.
• Infotainment: Audi Virtual Cockpit uses a 12.3-inch digital display and is optional on Premium Plus and standard on Prestige. The latest MMI Touch system brings an 8.3-inch display and handwriting recognition, and Audi Connect packages add connected services, including emergency calling and Wi-Fi hotspot capability.
• Fuel efficiency: Audi says the A5 Sportback returns 27 mpg in combined driving, and the expert test loop returned 22.5 mpg.

Which 2018 Audi A5 Sportback trim should I buy?

The 2018 Audi A5 Sportback is offered in 3 trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, Prestige.

Here's the short version:

• Premium: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core A5 Sportback experience with the standard safety equipment, Quattro all-wheel drive, and the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. It makes sense if you want the style and driving character without paying for the higher-end convenience features.
• Premium Plus: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds important upgrades like blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Vehicle Exit Assist, while also unlocking more desirable tech options such as Audi Virtual Cockpit. If you want the strongest balance of equipment and price, this is the trim to target.
• Prestige: This is the most fully equipped version, adding the head-up display, adaptive cruise control, parking sensors, a top-view camera system, and standard Audi Virtual Cockpit and Bang & Olufsen audio. Choose this if you want the most advanced convenience and driver-assistance features.

The safety-package trim note is straightforward: the most advanced driver-assistance features are reserved for Prestige, while Premium Plus gets the important blind-spot and rear cross-traffic upgrades.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Audi A5 Sportback?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 300 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.94% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 63.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,664, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Audi A5 Sportback's resale value?

The current average of $17,749 sits slightly below last year's $19,491.

That price movement suggests the market has softened, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than assuming the car will hold its value simply because it is a luxury model. Well-kept examples with desirable features should still attract attention, but the broader trend points to a market that rewards smart buying more than quick flipping.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Audi A5 Sportback safe?

The 2018 Audi A5 Sportback earns an overall score of 5 stars from NHTSA, but frontal-impact protection for the driver and front-seat passenger measures four-star. It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Every A5 Sportback includes forward-collision warning, low-to-moderate-speed automatic emergency braking, occupant-preparation technology, and post-impact braking to help reduce the risk of a secondary collision. Premium Plus adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Vehicle Exit Assist, while Prestige adds front and rear parking sensors, a top-view camera system, and the Driver Assistance Package with adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic high beams, and traffic-sign recognition.

The main caveat is that the federal crash result is not perfect in frontal impact, so if safety is a top priority, you should pay close attention to the car’s condition and make sure the driver-assistance equipment you want is included on the trim you’re considering.
