Acura’s standard safety and tech content adds to the sense that the car is designed to be easy to live with over time. What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Acura TLX?

At 55.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage or heavily optioned car. Pay close attention to bodywork quality, brake condition, and how the transmission and infotainment system behave in normal driving. Because the TLX can be equipped very differently depending on trim and package, you’ll want to confirm that the features you expect are actually present on the car you’re looking at.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base TLX brings 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, keyless entry and ignition, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated sports seats with faux leather, and Bluetooth, while the A-Spec adds a more aggressive visual treatment, 19-inch wheels, and a sportier chassis setup. The A-Spec is the best-value choice if you want the most distinctive look and feel without moving up to the highest-priced configuration.
• Powertrain: The base car uses a 2.4-liter engine with 206 hp and an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, while V6 versions use a 3.5-liter engine with 290 hp and a 9-speed transmission. The base setup is efficient and smooth, while the V6 brings much stronger acceleration and a more rewarding passing punch.
• Safety package: Every TLX gets AcuraWatch, including adaptive cruise, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and intervention, forward-collision warning with auto brake, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and cameras are tied to optional packages or higher trims.
• Infotainment: Acura refreshed the infotainment system for 2018 and claims a 35 percent speed improvement, but the dual-screen layout and dated graphics remain a weak point. The system can feel unnecessarily complicated, so make sure you’re comfortable with it before you buy.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine is rated at 23 mpg city and 33 highway, while the V6 returns 20 mpg city and 32 highway. With AWD, the V6 drops to 21 mpg city and 30 highway.

Which 2018 Acura TLX trim should I buy?

The 2018 Acura TLX is offered in 4 trim levels: base TLX FWD, TLX V6 with P-AWS, TLX V6 with SH-AWD, and A-Spec.

Here's the short version:

• base TLX FWD: This is the least expensive way into the TLX and gives you the core luxury-sedan equipment, standard AcuraWatch safety tech, and the 2.4-liter engine. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and are comfortable giving up the stronger V6 performance and extra premium features.
• TLX V6 with P-AWS: This trim adds the 290-hp V6 and the stronger straight-line performance that many shoppers will notice immediately. It’s the right pick if you want the best balance of power and price without stepping into the more expensive AWD setup.
• TLX V6 with SH-AWD: This version keeps the V6 and adds Acura’s Super-Handling AWD system, making it the better choice if you want more all-weather confidence and a more premium drivetrain. It’s a good fit if you value traction and a more upscale feel over outright value.
• A-Spec: This is the standout trim for 2018, pairing the V6 with the Tech Package and adding the sportier styling, 19-inch wheels, and chassis tuning that make the TLX feel more distinctive. It’s the best-value trim if you want the most complete and characterful version of the car.

Blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and cameras are tied to optional packages or higher trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Acura TLX?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 564 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.38% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 55.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,061, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Acura TLX's resale value?

The current average of $18,087 sits slightly below last year's $18,915.

That softer pricing suggests the TLX has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to stay competitive on condition, mileage, and equipment. A well-kept example with the right trim and package mix should still attract interest, especially if it presents as a clean, well-optioned luxury sedan. The market is rewarding shoppers right now, so resale strength will depend heavily on how well your specific car stands out against similar listings.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Acura TLX safe?

The Acura TLX earns five-star ratings from NHTSA in all categories, though the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave it Acceptable ratings in the Driver’s Side Small Overlap and Headlight tests and a Marginal rating for child-seat anchor ease of use.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Every TLX gets AcuraWatch, including adaptive cruise, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and intervention, forward-collision warning with auto brake, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and cameras are reserved for optional packages or higher trims. The main caveat is that the IIHS results are not as strong as the NHTSA score suggests, so you should pay attention to the specific safety equipment on the car you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2018 Acura TLX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.38% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 model stands out for its refreshed face, faster infotainment system, retuned transmissions, extra standard safety equipment, and the new A-Spec trim.

The bottom line: The 2018 TLX makes the most sense if you want the refreshed styling and the A-Spec’s added character, especially at today’s softer prices. If you’re shopping on a tighter budget, a nearby year may still work, but the 2018 is the one to target when you want the best mix of value, equipment, and appeal.

How does the 2018 Acura TLX compare to the 2018 Honda Accord?

Our experts score the 2018 Acura TLX 7.8/10 and the 2018 Honda Accord 8.2/10.

The TLX gives you a more luxury-focused experience, while the Accord delivers stronger value and better efficiency. The TLX’s higher starting price is offset somewhat by its richer feature set and more upscale feel, but the Accord is the easier buy if you want more listings, lower running costs, and a lower entry price. If you care most about premium branding and a sportier personality, the TLX has the edge; if you want the smarter all-around used-car purchase, the Accord is the better bet.
