Is the 2018 Acura TLX a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Acura TLX earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the luxury features, smooth performance, stylish design, powerful V6 engine, and comfortable interior. That lines up with the TLX’s role as a refined, sporty entry in the luxury sedan segment, especially if you want a polished daily driver with a more distinctive personality in the A-Spec trims.

The market also shows 31.2% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

The expert evaluation also describes the TLX as well built and well mannered, which supports the idea that it can be a solid long-term ownership choice.

If you’re buying used, the main ownership risk is making sure the specific car has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by hard use or neglected service.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Acura TLX?

At 56% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with a sport package. Pay close attention to body condition, brake wear, tire condition, and signs of uneven use, since those details can tell you a lot about how the car was treated.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base TLX FWD trim includes a 2.4-liter engine, front-wheel drive, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, keyless entry and ignition, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated sports seats with faux leather, and Bluetooth. Higher trims add more luxury and performance equipment, and the A-Spec package brings the sportiest look and feel.
• Powertrain: The base 2.4-liter engine makes 206 hp and 182 lb-ft and is paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, while the V6 delivers 290 hp and 267 lb-ft with a 9-speed transmission. The base setup is efficient, and the V6 gives you much stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: AcuraWatch is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and intervention, forward-collision warning with auto brake, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and cameras are tied to optional packages or higher trims.
• Infotainment: The refreshed infotainment system is faster, but the dual-screen layout and dated graphics can still feel complicated. The system does not come across as a class leader, so make sure you’re comfortable with it before you buy.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine is rated at 23 mpg city and 33 highway for a combined 27 mpg, while the V6 is rated at 20 mpg city and 32 highway for a combined 24 mpg. With AWD, the V6 remains at a combined 24 mpg.

Which 2018 Acura TLX trim should I buy?

The 2018 Acura TLX is offered in 4 trim levels: TLX FWD, TLX V6, TLX V6 with Technology Package, TLX V6 with Advance Package.

Here's the short version:

• TLX FWD: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and the standard equipment list is enough for you. You still get the core TLX experience, including the 2.4-liter engine, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, and AcuraWatch safety tech.
• TLX V6: This is the best choice if you want the stronger engine and quicker acceleration without jumping into the pricier packages. It gives you the 290-hp V6 and the 9-speed transmission, which makes the TLX feel much more energetic.
• TLX V6 with Technology Package: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds navigation, real-time traffic, rain-sensing wipers, real leather seating surfaces, GPS-linked climate control, an upgraded 10-speaker stereo, a color multi-information display, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• TLX V6 with Advance Package: Choose this if you want the most comfort and convenience features, including front and rear parking sensors, a wireless phone charger, heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a surround-view camera system, and other premium touches.

Blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and cameras are tied to optional packages or higher trims, so check carefully if those features matter to you.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Acura TLX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 507 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.65% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 56.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,056, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Acura TLX's resale value?

The current average of $18,414 sits slightly below last year's $19,313.

That softer pricing suggests the TLX has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to stay realistic on asking price. If you buy well now, you may be starting from a more favorable entry point than owners who purchased when prices were higher.

The model’s value story is still helped by its strong owner satisfaction and broad feature set, which can keep demand steady among shoppers looking for a luxury sedan with a sporty edge. Well-equipped examples, especially those with desirable packages, should remain easier to market than stripped-down cars.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Acura TLX safe?

The 2018 Acura TLX earns five-star ratings from NHTSA in all categories, though the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded it Acceptable ratings in the Driver’s Side Small Overlap and Headlight tests, as well as a Marginal rating for the ease of use of the child-seat anchors.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

AcuraWatch is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and intervention, forward-collision warning with auto brake, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and cameras are reserved for optional packages or higher trims.

The main caveat is that the braking performance drew criticism, with longer stopping distances and some fade during repeated hard use.

Should I buy a 2018 Acura TLX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 56% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.65% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 refresh brought a faster infotainment system, retuned transmissions, and extra standard safety, while the sporty A-Spec trims are the standout highlight for this year.

The bottom line: The 2018 TLX is the better pick if you want the refreshed model-year improvements, strong owner satisfaction, and a market that has eased from last year’s pricing. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and target the lower end of the range, but the 2018 is the year to focus on if you want the best balance of value, features, and sporty character.
