Acura’s standard safety and comfort equipment adds to the sense that the TLX is built to be a trouble-free ownership choice.

The expert evaluation also describes the TLX as competent and well mannered, with Honda build quality behind it. What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Acura TLX?

At 55.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and signs of prior repair. Because the TLX can be found with a range of equipment levels, it’s also worth checking that the features you care about actually work as intended, especially on cars with more complex option packages. If you’re comparing multiple listings, focus on condition first and trim content second.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base TLX FWD trim brings 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, keyless entry and ignition, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated sports seats with faux leather, and Bluetooth. Higher trims add more luxury and convenience, and the A-Spec package is the year’s standout for its sportier look and chassis tuning.
• Powertrain: The base model uses a 2.4-liter engine with front-wheel drive and an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, while V6 models use a 3.5-liter engine with a 9-speed transmission. The V6 brings stronger acceleration and a more linear power delivery.
• Safety package: AcuraWatch is standard and includes adaptive cruise, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and intervention, forward-collision warning with auto brake, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and cameras are tied to optional packages or higher trims.
• Infotainment: The refreshed infotainment system is faster, but the dual-screen layout and dated graphics can still feel complicated. The tech package adds navigation with real-time traffic and an upgraded 10-speaker stereo.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine is rated at 23 mpg city and 33 highway for a combined 27 mpg. The V6 is rated at 20 mpg city and 32 highway for a combined 24 mpg, and AWD keeps the combined figure at 24 mpg.

Which 2018 Acura TLX trim should I buy?

The 2018 Acura TLX is offered in 4 trim levels: TLX FWD, TLX V6, TLX V6 with Technology Package, and TLX V6 with Technology Package and A-Spec Package.

Here's the short version:

• TLX FWD: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core TLX experience with the base engine, standard AcuraWatch safety equipment, and a solid list of comfort features. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model.
• TLX V6: This is the better choice if you want the stronger engine and quicker acceleration without jumping into the more expensive option packages. It’s the best-value trim for shoppers who care most about performance.
• TLX V6 with Technology Package: This trim adds navigation, real-time traffic, real leather, GPS-linked climate control, an upgraded 10-speaker stereo, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic. It’s the sweet spot if you want a more complete luxury experience.
• TLX V6 with Technology Package and A-Spec Package: This is the most distinctive version, adding the sportier styling and chassis tuning that make the 2018 model year stand out. It’s the one to choose if you want the most character and the most polished all-around package.

Blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and cameras are still tied to optional packages or higher trims, so check equipment carefully before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Acura TLX?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 558 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.23% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 55.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,055, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Acura TLX's resale value?

The current average of $18,209 sits slightly below last year's $19,013.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may also mean slower appreciation if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that the TLX is holding value in a fairly measured way rather than showing strong upward momentum. If you buy well and keep the car in good condition, you should be better positioned than someone who pays near the top of the range.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Acura TLX safe?

The 2018 Acura TLX earns five-star ratings from NHTSA in all categories, though IIHS gave it Acceptable ratings in the Driver’s Side Small Overlap and Headlight tests, plus a Marginal rating for child-seat anchor ease of use.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

AcuraWatch is standard and includes adaptive cruise, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and intervention, forward-collision warning with auto brake, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and cameras are reserved for optional packages or higher trims.

The main caveat is the IIHS result set, especially the Marginal child-seat anchor rating and the Acceptable marks in the small-overlap and headlight tests. You should also pay attention to braking performance, since repeated hard use can bring on fade.

Should I buy a 2018 Acura TLX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Prices have softened 4.23% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 model year stands out for the new A-Spec package, which gives the TLX a more style-forward and performance-minded character.

The bottom line: If you want the most distinctive version of this generation’s TLX, the 2018 is the year to target because of the A-Spec package and the refreshed equipment mix. If you’re mainly shopping on price, you can still find value here, but you should compare carefully against nearby years and focus on condition, equipment, and history rather than just the badge on the trunk.
