How much does the 2017 Volkswagen Beetle cost?

Prices are up 2.26% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 301 listings available, which gives you a moderate amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2017 Volkswagen Beetle a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. The 2017 Volkswagen Beetle stands out for blending retro style with modern features, while also offering a roomier interior and more trunk space than earlier Beetles. It also has a premium-feeling cabin and a distinctive shape that leans more coupe-like than the earlier modern Beetle, which makes it appealing if you want something stylish and characterful rather than purely practical. 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Volkswagen Beetle reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2017 Volkswagen Beetle does not have a standout reliability record, and engines and timing chains are noted as potential trouble spots. That means you should treat condition and maintenance history as especially important on the used market. For long-term ownership, the main risk is buying a car with deferred mechanical issues that can be costly to sort out later.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Volkswagen Beetle?

At 51.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on body condition, panel alignment, and signs of past collision work, then make sure the car drives cleanly and feels well maintained. Because engines and timing chains can be problematic, a careful mechanical inspection matters just as much as cosmetic condition.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Volkswagen Beetle?

This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 301 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.26% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 51.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,213, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Volkswagen Beetle's resale value?

The current average of $18,459 sits slightly above last year's $18,051.

That upward move suggests the Beetle has held buyer interest well enough to support pricing. If you own one and keep it in good condition, you may benefit from that steady demand when it comes time to sell. The limited supply of clean, well-priced examples can also help a future listing stand out if your car is well maintained.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Volkswagen Beetle or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 51.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.26% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $19,643, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $18,459 average.
• It adds a final-year update with a new 2.0-liter turbo engine and special Coast edition flair.

The bottom line: The 2017 is the better primary path if you want a lower average price and strong owner satisfaction. If you can stretch for a newer, more distinctive final-year version, the 2018 is the better secondary path for buyers who value the last Beetle update more than price.
