At 61% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection so you can catch any hidden damage or repair issues. It also helps to verify that the hybrid system, brakes, and interior electronics all feel consistent during a test drive.

That upward move suggests the market has been willing to pay more for this model year, which is a positive sign if you plan to sell later. Strong demand can help support resale value, especially when the vehicle keeps its reputation for comfort and efficiency. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 5.88% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $18,477, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $20,612 average.
• It offers a more value-focused entry point with a hybrid SUV package that emphasizes efficiency and practicality.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger overall market signal, the 2017 is the better primary target because it combines solid owner satisfaction with a healthy but selective deal environment. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2016 is the better secondary path, especially if you find one in clean condition and with a strong service history.
